1For the leader: set to “Destroy not”: a psalm: for Asaph: a song WE give thanks to you, God, we give you thanks; your name is brought very near to us in the account of your wonderful deeds.
2I shall seize the appointed time and then judge mankind with equity.
3When the earth quakes, and all who live on it, it is I who hold its pillars firm. [Selah]
4To the boastful I say, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not vaunt your strength:
5do not vaunt yourself against heaven or speak arrogantly against the Rock.”
6No power from the east or from the west, no power from the wilderness, can raise anyone up.
7For God is ruler; he puts one down, another he raises up.
8For the LORD holds a cup in his hand, and the wine foams in it, richly spiced; he pours out this wine, and all the wicked on earth must drain it to the dregs.
9But I shall confess him for ever; I shall sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10He will break down the strength of the wicked, but the strength of the righteous will be raised high.
