 <<  Amsal 11 >>

False scales are an abomination to the LORD, but accurate weights win his favour.

When pride comes in, in comes contempt, but wisdom goes hand in hand with modesty.

Integrity is a guide for the upright; the perfidious are ruined by their own duplicity.

Wealth avails naught in the day of wrath, but uprightness is a safeguard against death.

By uprightness the blameless keep their course, but the wicked are brought down by their own wickedness.

Uprightness saves the righteous, but the perfidious are trapped by their own lies.

When someone wicked dies, all his hopes perish, and any expectation of affluence ends.

The righteous are rescued from disaster, and the wicked plunge into it.

By their words the godless try to ruin others, but when the righteous plead for them they are saved.

A city rejoices in the prosperity of the righteous, and when the wicked perish there is jubilation.

By the blessing of the upright a city is raised to greatness, but the words of the wicked tear it down.

One who belittles others is lacking in sense; someone of understanding holds his peace.

A tale-bearer gives away secrets, but a trustworthy person respects a confidence.

For want of skilful strategy an army is lost; victory is the fruit of long planning.

Give a pledge for a stranger and you will suffer; refuse to stand surety and stay safe.

A gracious woman gets honour; a bold man gets only a fortune.

Kindness brings its own reward; cruelty earns trouble for itself.

A wicked person earns a delusive profit, but he who sows goodness reaps a sure reward.

Anyone set on righteousness finds life, but the pursuit of evil leads to death.

The LORD detests the crooked heart, but honesty wins his favour.

Depend upon it: an evildoer will not escape punishment, but the righteous and all their offspring will go free.

Like a gold ring in a pig's snout is a beautiful woman without good sense.

The righteous desire only what is good; what the wicked hope for comes to nothing.

One may spend freely and yet grow richer; another is tight-fisted, yet ends in poverty.

A generous person enjoys prosperity, and one who refreshes others will be refreshed.

Whoever holds back his grain is cursed by the people, but one who sells it earns their blessing.

Someone who seeks what is good wins much favour, but one who pursues evil finds it recoils upon him.

Whoever relies on his wealth is riding for a fall, but the righteous flourish like leaves sprouting.

One who brings trouble on his family inherits the wind, and a fool becomes slave to one who is wise.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, but violence results in the taking of life.

If the righteous get their deserts on earth, how much more will the wicked and the sinner!
