 <<  Amsal 13 >>

A wise son heeds a father's instruction; the arrogant will not listen to rebuke.

The good enjoy the fruit of righteousness, but violence is meat and drink for the perfidious.

One who minds his words preserves his life; one who talks too much faces ruin.

Those who are lazy and torn by appetite are unsatisfied, but the diligent grow prosperous.

The righteous hate falsehood; the actions of the wicked are base and disgraceful.

Right conduct protects the honest, but wickedness brings sinners down.

One pretends to be rich, although he has nothing; another has great wealth but affects poverty.

One who is rich has to pay a ransom, but one who is poor is immune from threats.

The light of the righteous burns brightly; the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.

A brainless fool causes strife by his presumption; wisdom is found among friends in council.

Wealth quickly won dwindles away, but if amassed little by little it will grow.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick; a wish come true is a tree of life.

To despise a word of advice is to ask for trouble; mind a command, and you will be rewarded.

The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life offering escape from the snares of death.

Good sense wins favour, but perfidy leads to disaster.

Clever people do everything with understanding, but the stupid parade their folly.

An evil messenger causes trouble, but a trusty envoy brings healing.

To refuse correction brings poverty and humiliation; one who takes reproof to heart comes to honour.

Desire fulfilled is sweet to the taste; stupid people detest mending their ways.

Walk with the wise and learn wisdom; mix with the stupid and come to harm.

Ill fortune pursues the sinner; good fortune rewards the righteous.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his descendants, but the sinner's hoard passes to the righteous.

The fallow land of the poor may yield much grain, but through injustice it may be stolen.

A father who spares the rod hates his son, but one who loves his son brings him up strictly.

The righteous eat their fill, but the bellies of the wicked are empty.
