 <<  Amsal 28 >>

The wicked flee, even though no one pursues, but the righteous are as confident as young lions.

It is the fault of a violent person that quarrels start, but they are settled by one who possesses discernment.

A tyrant oppressing the poor is like driving rain that ruins the crop.

Those who abandon God's law applaud the wicked; those who keep it contend with them.

Evildoers have no understanding of justice, but those who seek the LORD understand it well.

Better to be poor and above reproach than rich and crooked.

A discerning son observes God's law, but one who keeps profligate company brings disgrace on his father.

He who grows rich by lending at discount or at interest is saving for another who will be generous to the poor.

If anyone turns a deaf ear to God's law, even his prayer is an abomination.

He who tempts the upright into evil ways will himself land in the pit he has dug; but the honest will inherit a fortune.

The person who is rich may think himself wise, but the discerning poor will see through him.

When the just triumph, morale is high, but when the wicked come to the top, the people are downtrodden.

Conceal your offences, and you will not prosper; confess and renounce them, and you will obtain mercy.

Happy are those who are scrupulous in conduct, but if one hardens his heart he falls into misfortune!

Like a roaring lion or a prowling bear is a wicked ruler governing a helpless people.

The leader who is stupid and grasping will perish; he who detests ill-gotten gain will live long.

Anyone charged with bloodshed will jump into a well to escape arrest.

Whoever leads an honest life will be safe, but a rogue will fall into a pit.

Those who cultivate their land will have food in plenty, but those who follow idle pursuits will have poverty in plenty.

Someone of steady character will enjoy many blessings, but one in a hurry to get rich will not go unpunished.

It is invidious to show partiality; wrong may be done for a crust of bread.

The miser is in a hurry to become rich, never dreaming that want may overtake him.

Take someone to task and in the end win more thanks than he who has a flattering tongue.

To rob your father or mother and say you do no wrong is no better than murder.

A grasping person provokes quarrels, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

It is stupid to trust to one's own wits, but he whose guide is wisdom will come safely through.

He who gives to the poor will never want, but he who turns a blind eye gets nothing but curses.

When the wicked come to the top, people go into hiding; but, when they perish, the righteous come into power.
