BLESS the LORD, my soul. LORD my God, you are very great, clothed in majesty and splendour,

and enfolded in a robe of light. You have spread out the heavens like a tent,

and laid the beams of your dwelling on the waters; you take the clouds for your chariot, riding on the wings of the wind;

you make the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants;

you fixed the earth on its foundation so that it will never be moved.

The deep covered it like a cloak, and the waters stood above the mountains.

At your rebuke they fled, at the sound of your thunder they rushed away,

flowing over the hills, pouring down into the valleys to the place appointed for them.

You fixed a boundary which they were not to pass; they were never to cover the earth again.

You make springs break out in the wadis, so that water from them flows between the hills.

The wild beasts all drink from them, the wild donkeys quench their thirst;

the birds of the air nest on their banks and sing among the foliage.

From your dwelling you water the hills; the earth is enriched by your provision.

You make grass grow for the cattle and plants for the use of mortals, producing grain from the earth, food to sustain their strength, wine to gladden the hearts of the people, and oil to make their faces shine.

(104:14)

The trees of the LORD flourish, the cedars of Lebanon which he planted;

birds build their nests in them, the stork makes her home in their tops.

High hills are the haunt of the mountain goat, and crags a cover for the rock-badger.

He created the moon to mark the seasons, and makes the sun know when to set.

You bring darkness, and it is night, when all the beasts of the forest go prowling;

the young lions roar for prey, seeking their food from God;

when the sun rises, they slink away and seek rest in their lairs.

Man goes out to his work and his labours until evening.

Countless are the things you have made, LORD; by your wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Here is the vast immeasurable sea, in which move crawling things beyond number, living creatures great and small.

Here ships sail to and fro; here is Leviathan which you have made to sport there.

All of them look to you in hope to give them their food when it is due.

What you give them they gather up; when you open your hand, they eat their fill of good things.

When you hide your face, they are dismayed. When you take away their spirit, they die and return to the dust from which they came.

When you send forth your spirit, they are created, and you give new life to the earth.

May the glory of the LORD stand for ever, and may the LORD rejoice in his works!

When he looks at the earth, it quakes; when he touches the mountains, they pour forth smoke.

As long as I live I shall sing to the LORD; I shall sing psalms to my God all my life long.

May my meditation be acceptable to him; I shall delight in the LORD.

May sinners be banished from the earth and may the wicked be no more! Bless the LORD, my soul. Praise the LORD.
