 <<  Amsal 19 >>

Better to be poor and above reproach than rich and double-tongued.

It is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be in too great a hurry and so miss the way.

When folly wrecks someone's life, he rages in his heart against the LORD.

Wealth makes many new friends, but someone without means loses any friend he has.

A false witness will not escape punishment; the perjurer will not go free.

Many curry favour with the great; a lavish giver has the world for his friend.

A pauper's brothers all dislike him; how much more is he shunned by his friends! The man who picks his words keeps to the point.

To learn sense is true self-love; cherish discernment and make sure of success.

A false witness will not escape punishment; the perjurer will perish.

A fool at the helm is out of place, how much worse a slave in command of men of rank!

Forbearance shows intelligence; to overlook an offence brings glory.

A king's rage is like a lion's roar, but his favour is like dew on the grass.

A stupid son is a calamity to his father; a nagging wife is like water endlessly dripping.

Home and wealth may come down from ancestors, but a sensible wife is a gift from the LORD.

Sloth leads to sleep and negligence to starvation.

Keeping the commandments keeps a person safe, but scorning the way of the LORD brings death.

He who is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, who will recompense him for his deed.

Chastise your son while there is hope for him; only be careful not to flog him to death.

Anyone whose temper is violent must bear the consequences; try to save him, and you make matters worse.

Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise.

The human mind may be full of schemes, but it is the LORD's purpose that will prevail.

Greed is a disgrace to a man; better be poor than a liar.

The fear of the LORD is life; he who is full of it will rest untouched by evil.

The sluggard dips his hand into the dish but will not so much as lift it to his mouth.

Strike an arrogant person, and the simpleton learns prudence; reprove someone who has understanding, and he understands what you mean.

He who expels his father evicts his mother; they have a son who brings shame and disgrace on them.

A son who ceases to accept correction is sure to turn his back on the teachings of knowledge.

A lying witness makes a mockery of justice, and the talk of the wicked fosters mischief.

There is a rod in pickle for the arrogant, and blows are ready for the fool's back.
