1For the leader: a maskil: for David (when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul that David had gone to Abimelech's house) YOU MIGHTY man, why do you boast all the day of your infamy against God's loyal servant?
2You plan destruction; your slanderous tongue is sharp as a razor.
3You love evil rather than good, falsehood rather than truthful speech; [Selah]
4you love all malicious talk and slander.
5So may God fling you to the ground, sweep you away, leave you ruined and homeless, uprooted from the land of the living. [Selah]
6The righteous will look on, awestruck, then laugh at his plight:
7“This is the man”, they say, “who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in his great wealth and took refuge in his riches.”
8But I am like a spreading olive tree in God's house, for I trust in God's faithful love for ever and ever.
9I shall praise you for ever for what you have done, and glorify your name among your loyal servants, for that is good.
