1A prayer: for David LISTEN, LORD, and give me an answer, for I am oppressed and poor.

2Guard me, for I am faithful; save your servant who puts his trust in you. You are my God.

3Show me your favour, Lord; I call to you all day long.

4Fill your servant's heart with joy, for to you, Lord, I lift up my heart.

5Lord, you are kind and forgiving, full of love towards all who cry to you.

6LORD, listen to my prayer and hear my pleading.

7In the day of my distress I call to you, for you will answer me.

8Among the gods not one is like you, Lord; no deeds compare with yours.

9All the nations you have made will come to bow before you, Lord, and honour your name,

10for you are great, and your works are wonderful; you alone are God.

11LORD, teach me your way, that I may walk in your truth. Let me worship your name with undivided heart.

12I shall praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart and give honour to your name for ever.

13For your love towards me is great, and you have rescued me from the depths of Sheol.

14Violent men rise to attack me, a band of ruthless men seeks my life; they give no thought to you, my God.

15But you, Lord, are God, compassionate and gracious, long-suffering, ever faithful and true.

16Turn to me and show me your favour; grant your servant protection and rescue your slave-girl's son.

17Give me a sign of your favour; let those who hate me see it and be abashed, for you, LORD, have been my help and comfort.
