1Now when the Lamb broke the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.
The seven trumpets
2I SAW the seven angels who stand in the presence of God: they were given seven trumpets.
3Another angel came and stood at the altar, holding a golden censer. He was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all God's people on the golden altar in front of the throne,
4and the smoke of the incense from the angel's hand went up before God with his people's prayers.
5The angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and threw it down on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, lightning-flashes, and an earthquake.
6THE seven angels who held the seven trumpets prepared to blow them.
7The first angel blew his trumpet. There came hail and fire mingled with blood, and this was hurled upon the earth; a third of the earth was burnt, a third of the trees, and all the green grass.
8The second angel blew his trumpet. What looked like a great mountain flaming with fire was hurled into the sea; a third of the sea was turned to blood,
9a third of the living creatures in it died, and a third of the ships on it were destroyed.
10The third angel blew his trumpet. A great star shot from the sky, flaming like a torch, and fell on a third of the rivers and springs;
11the name of the star was Wormwood. A third of the water turned to wormwood, and great numbers of people died from drinking the water because it had been made bitter.
12The fourth angel blew his trumpet. A third part of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third part of them turned dark and a third of the light failed to appear by day or by night.
13As I looked, I heard an eagle calling with a loud cry as it flew in mid-heaven: “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth at the sound of the other trumpets which the next three angels must now blow!”
