The people and their leaders condemned
1THIS word of the LORD came to me:
2“O man, how is the vine better than any other tree, than a branch from a tree in the forest?
3Is wood got from it useful for making anything? Can one make it into a peg and hang something on it?
4If it is put on the fire for fuel, if its two ends are burnt by the fire and the middle is charred, is it fit for anything useful?
5Nothing useful could be made from it, even when whole; how much less is it useful for making anything when burnt and charred by fire!
6“The Lord GOD says: As the wood of the vine among all kinds of wood from the forest is useful only for burning, even so I treat the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
7I have set my face against them. They have escaped from the fire, but fire will burn them up. Thus you will know that I am the LORD when I set my face against them,
8and make the land a waste because they have broken faith. This is the word of the Lord GOD.”
