 <<  1 Korintus 14 >>

Pursue<1377> love<26>, yet<1161> desire<2206> earnestly<2206> spiritual<4152> gifts, but especially<3123> that you may prophesy<4395>.

For one who speaks<2980> in a tongue<1100> does not speak<2980> to men<444> but to God<2316>; for no<3762> one<3762> understands<191>, but in his spirit<4151> he speaks<2980> mysteries<3466>.

But one who prophesies<4395> speaks<2980> to men<444> for edification<3619> and exhortation<3874> and consolation<3889>.

One who speaks<2980> in a tongue<1100> edifies<3618> himself<1438>; but one who prophesies<4395> edifies<3618> the church<1577>.

Now<1161> I wish<2309> that you all<3956> spoke<2980> in tongues<1100>, but even more<3123> that you would prophesy<4395>; and greater<3173> is one who prophesies<4395> than<2228> one who speaks<2980> in tongues<1100>, unless<1487><3361> he interprets<1329>, so<2443> that the church<1577> may receive<2983> edifying<3619>.

But now<3568>, brethren<80>, if<1437> I come<2064> to you speaking<2980> in tongues<1100>, what<5101> will I profit<5623> you unless<1437><3361> I speak<2980> to you either<2228> by way<1722> of revelation<602> or<2228> of knowledge<1108> or<2228> of prophecy<4394> or<2228> of teaching<1322>?

Yet<3676> even lifeless<895> things<895>, either<1535> flute<836> or<1535> harp<2788>, in producing<1325> a sound<5456>, if<1437> they do not produce<1325> a distinction<1293> in the tones<5353>, how<4459> will it be known<1097> what is played<832> on the flute<832> or<2228> on the harp<2789>?

For if<1437> the bugle<4536> produces<1325> an indistinct<82> sound<5456>, who<5101> will prepare<3903> himself for battle<4171>?

So<3779> also<2532> you, unless<1437><3361> you utter<1325> by the tongue<1100> speech<3056> that is clear<2154>, how<4459> will it be known<1097> what is spoken<2980>? For you will be speaking<2980> into the air<109>.

There are, perhaps<5177>, a great<5118> many<5118> kinds<1085> of languages<5456> in the world<2889>, and no<3762> kind is without<880> meaning<880>.

If<1437> then<3767> I do not know<3609> the meaning<1411> of the language<5456>, I will be to the one who speaks<2980> a barbarian<915>, and the one who speaks<2980> will be a barbarian<915> to me.

So<3779> also<2532> you, since<1893> you are zealous<2207> of spiritual<4151> gifts, seek<2212> to abound<4052> for the edification<3619> of the church<1577>.

Therefore<1352> let one who speaks<2980> in a tongue<1100> pray<4336> that he may interpret<1329>.

For if<1437> I pray<4336> in a tongue<1100>, my spirit<4151> prays<4336>, but my mind<3563> is unfruitful<175>.

What<5101> is the outcome then<3767>? I will pray<4336> with the spirit<4151> and I will pray<4336> with the mind<3563> also<2532>; I will sing<5567> with the spirit<4151> and I will sing<5567> with the mind<3563> also<2532>.

Otherwise<1893> if<1437> you bless<2127> in the spirit<4151> only, how<4459> will the one who fills<378> the place<5117> of the ungifted<2399> say<3004> the "Amen<281>" at your giving<2169> of thanks<2169>, since<1894> he does not know<3609> what<5101> you are saying<3004>?

For you are giving<2168> thanks<2168> well<2573> enough<2573>, but the other<2087> person<2087> is not edified<3618>.

I thank<2168> God<2316>, I speak<2980> in tongues<1100> more<3123> than you all<3956>;

however<235>, in the church<1577> I desire<2309> to speak<2980> five<4002> words<3056> with my mind<3563> so<2443> that I may instruct<2727> others<243> also<2532>, rather<2228> than<2228> ten<3463> thousand<3463> words<3056> in a tongue<1100>.

Brethren<80>, do not be children<3813> in your thinking<5424>; yet<235> in evil<2549> be infants<3515>, but in your thinking<5424> be mature<5046>.

In the Law<3551> it is written<1125>, "BY MEN<2084> OF STRANGE<2084> TONGUES<2084> AND BY THE LIPS<5491> OF STRANGERS<2087> I WILL SPEAK<2980> TO THIS<3778> PEOPLE<2992>, AND EVEN<3761> SO<3779> THEY WILL NOT LISTEN<1522> TO ME," says<3004> the Lord<2962>.

So<5620> then<5620> tongues<1100> are for a sign<4592>, not to those<3588> who believe<4100> but to unbelievers<571>; but prophecy<4394> is for a sign, not to unbelievers<571> but to those<3588> who believe<4100>.

Therefore<3767> if<1437> the whole<3650> church<1577> assembles<4905> together<1909><3588><846> and all<3956> speak<2980> in tongues<1100>, and ungifted<2399> men<2399> or<2228> unbelievers<571> enter<1525>, will they not say<3004> that you are mad<3105>?

But if<1437> all<3956> prophesy<4395>, and an unbeliever<571> or<2228> an ungifted<2399> man<2399> enters<1525>, he is convicted<1651> by all<3956>, he is called<350> to account<350> by all<3956>;

the secrets<2927> of his heart<2588> are disclosed<5318>; and so<3779> he will fall<4098> on his face<4383> and worship<4352> God<2316>, declaring<518> that God<2316> is certainly<3689> among<1722> you.

What<5101> is the outcome then<3767>, brethren<80>? When<3752> you assemble<4905>, each<1538> one<1538> has<2192> a psalm<5568>, has<2192> a teaching<1322>, has<2192> a revelation<602>, has<2192> a tongue<1100>, has<2192> an interpretation<2058>. Let all<3956> things<3956> be done<1096> for edification<3619>.

If<1535> anyone<5100> speaks<2980> in a tongue<1100>, it should be by two<1417> or<2228> at the most<4183> three<5140>, and each in turn<3313>, and one<1520> must interpret<1329>;

but if<1437> there is no<3361> interpreter<1328>, he must keep<4601> silent<4601> in the church<1577>; and let him speak<2980> to himself<1438> and to God<2316>.

Let two<1417> or<2228> three<5140> prophets<4396> speak<2980>, and let the others<243> pass<1252> judgment<1252>.

But if<1437> a revelation<601> is made<601> to another<243> who is seated<2521>, the first<4413> one must keep<4601> silent<4601>.

For you can<1410> all<3956> prophesy<4395> one<2596><1520> by one<2596><1520>, so<2443> that all<3956> may learn<3129> and all<3956> may be exhorted<3870>;

and the spirits<4151> of prophets<4396> are subject<5293> to prophets<4396>;

for God<2316> is not a God of confusion<181> but of peace<1515>, as in all<3956> the churches<1577> of the saints<40>.

The women<1135> are to keep<4601> silent<4601> in the churches<1577>; for they are not permitted<2010> to speak<2980>, but are to subject<5293> themselves, just<2531> as the Law<3551> also<2532> says<3004>.

If<1487> they desire<2309> to learn<3129> anything<5100>, let them ask<1905> their own<2398> husbands<435> at home<3624>; for it is improper<150> for a woman<1135> to speak<2980> in church<1577>.

Was it from you that the word<3056> of God<2316> first went<1831> forth<1831>? Or<2228> has it come<2658> to you only<3441>?

If<1487> anyone<5100> thinks<1380> he is a prophet<4396> or<2228> spiritual<4152>, let him recognize<1921> that the things which<3739> I write<1125> to you are the Lord's<2962> commandment<1785>.

But if<1487> anyone<5100> does not recognize<50> this, he is not recognized<50>.

Therefore<5620>, my brethren<80>, desire<2206> earnestly<2206> to prophesy<4395>, and do not forbid<2967> to speak<2980> in tongues<1100>.

But all<3956> things<3956> must be done<1096> properly<2156> and in an orderly<5010> manner<5010>.
