And he heard <08085> (8799) the words <01697> of Laban's <03837> sons <01121>_, saying <0559> (8800)_, Jacob <03290> hath taken away <03947> (8804) all that [was] our father's <01>_; and of [that] which [was] our father's <01> hath he gotten <06213> (8804) all this glory <03519>_.
And Jacob <03290> beheld <07200> (8799) the countenance <06440> of Laban <03837>_, and, behold, it [was] not toward him as <08543> before <08032>_. {as before: Heb. as yesterday and the day before}
And the LORD <03068> said <0559> (8799) unto Jacob <03290>_, Return <07725> (8798) unto the land <0776> of thy fathers <01>_, and to thy kindred <04138>_; and I will be with thee.
And Jacob <03290> sent <07971> (8799) and called <07121> (8799) Rachel <07354> and Leah <03812> to the field <07704> unto his flock <06629>_,
And said <0559> (8799) unto them, I see <07200> (8802) your father's <01> countenance <06440>_, that it [is] not toward me as <08543> before <08032>_; but the God <0430> of my father <01> hath been <01961> (8804) with me.
And ye <0859> know <03045> (8804) that with all my power <03581> I have served <05647> (8804) your father <01>_.
And your father <01> hath deceived <02048> (8765) me, and changed <02498> (8689) my wages <04909> ten <06235> times <04489>_; but God <0430> suffered him <05414> (8804) not to hurt <07489> (8687) me <05978>_.
If he said <0559> (8799) thus, The speckled <05348> shall be thy wages <07939>_; then all the cattle <06629> bare <03205> (8804) speckled <05348>_: and if he said <0559> (8799) thus, The ringstraked <06124> shall be thy hire <07939>_; then bare <03205> (8804) all the cattle <06629> ringstraked <06124>_.
Thus God <0430> hath taken away <05337> (8686) the cattle <04735> of your father <01>_, and given <05414> (8799) [them] to me.
And it came to pass at the time <06256> that the cattle <06629> conceived <03179> (8763)_, that I lifted up <05375> (8799) mine eyes <05869>_, and saw <07200> (8799) in a dream <02472>_, and, behold, the rams <06260> which leaped <05927> (8802) upon the cattle <06629> [were] ringstraked <06124>_, speckled <05348>_, and grisled <01261>_. {rams: or, he goats}
And the angel <04397> of God <0430> spake <0559> (8799) unto me in a dream <02472>_, [saying], Jacob <03290>_: And I said <0559> (8799)_, Here [am] I.
And he said <0559> (8799)_, Lift up <05375> (8798) now thine eyes <05869>_, and see <07200> (8798)_, all the rams <06260> which leap <05927> (8802) upon the cattle <06629> [are] ringstraked <06124>_, speckled <05348>_, and grisled <01261>_: for I have seen <07200> (8804) all that Laban <03837> doeth <06213> (8802) unto thee.
I [am] the God <0410> of Bethel <01008>_, where thou anointedst <04886> (8804) the pillar <04676>_, [and] where thou vowedst <05087> (8804) a vow <05088> unto me: now arise <06965> (8798)_, get thee out <03318> (8798) from this land <0776>_, and return <07725> (8798) unto the land <0776> of thy kindred <04138>_.
And Rachel <07354> and Leah <03812> answered <06030> (8799) and said <0559> (8799) unto him, [Is there] yet any portion <02506> or inheritance <05159> for us in our father's <01> house <01004>_?
Are we not counted <02803> (8738) of him strangers <05237>_? for he hath sold <04376> (8804) us, and hath quite <0398> (8800) devoured <0398> (8799) also our money <03701>_.
For all the riches <06239> which God <0430> hath taken <05337> (8689) from our father <01>_, that [is] ours, and our children's <01121>_: now then, whatsoever God <0430> hath said <0559> (8804) unto thee, do <06213> (8798)_.
Then Jacob <03290> rose up <06965> (8799)_, and set <05375> (8799) his sons <01121> and his wives <0802> upon camels <01581>_;
And he carried away <05090> (8799) all his cattle <04735>_, and all his goods <07399> which he had gotten <07408> (8804)_, the cattle <04735> of his getting <07075>_, which he had gotten <07408> (8804) in Padanaram <06307>_, for to go <0935> (8800) to Isaac <03327> his father <01> in the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>_.
And Laban <03837> went <01980> (8804) to shear <01494> (8800) his sheep <06629>_: and Rachel <07354> had stolen <01589> (8799) the images <08655> that [were] her father's <01>_. {images: Heb. teraphim}
And Jacob <03290> stole away <01589> (8799) unawares <03820> to Laban <03837> the Syrian <0761>_, in that <05921> he told <05046> (8689) him not <01097> that he fled <01272> (8802)_. {unawares...: Heb. the heart of Laban}
So he fled <01272> (8799) with all that he had; and he rose up <06965> (8799)_, and passed over <05674> (8799) the river <05104>_, and set <07760> (8799) his face <06440> [toward] the mount <02022> Gilead <01568>_.
And it was told <05046> (8714) Laban <03837> on the third <07992> day <03117> that Jacob <03290> was fled <01272> (8804)_.
And he took <03947> (8799) his brethren <0251> with him, and pursued <07291> (8799) after him <0310> seven <07651> days <03117>_' journey <01870>_; and they overtook <01692> (8686) him in the mount <02022> Gilead <01568>_.
And God <0430> came <0935> (8799) to Laban <03837> the Syrian <0761> in a dream <02472> by night <03915>_, and said <0559> (8799) unto him, Take heed <08104> (8734) that thou speak <01696> (8762) not to <05973> Jacob <03290> either good <02896> or <05704> bad <07451>_. {either...: Heb. from good to bad}
Then Laban <03837> overtook <05381> (8686) Jacob <03290>_. Now Jacob <03290> had pitched <08628> (8804) his tent <0168> in the mount <02022>_: and Laban <03837> with his brethren <0251> pitched <08628> (8804) in the mount <02022> of Gilead <01568>_.
And Laban <03837> said <0559> (8799) to Jacob <03290>_, What hast thou done <06213> (8804)_, that thou hast stolen away <01589> (8799) unawares <03824> to me, and carried away <05090> (8762) my daughters <01323>_, as captives <07617> (8803) [taken] with the sword <02719>_?
Wherefore didst thou flee away <01272> (8800) secretly <02244> (8738)_, and steal away <01589> (8799) from me; and didst not tell <05046> (8689) me, that I might have sent thee away <07971> (8762) with mirth <08057>_, and with songs <07892>_, with tabret <08596>_, and with harp <03658>_? {steal...: Heb. hast stolen me}
And hast not suffered <05203> (8804) me to kiss <05401> (8763) my sons <01121> and my daughters <01323>_? thou hast now done foolishly <05528> (8689) in [so] doing <06213> (8800)_.
It is <03426> in the power <0410> of my hand <03027> to do <06213> (8800) you hurt <07451>_: but the God <0430> of your father <01> spake <0559> (8804) unto me yesternight <0570>_, saying <0559> (8800)_, Take thou heed <08104> (8734) that thou speak not <01696> (8763) to Jacob <03290> either good <02896> or bad <07451>_.
And now, [though] thou wouldest needs <01980> (8800) be gone <01980> (8804)_, because thou sore <03700> (8736) longedst <03700> (8738) after thy father's <01> house <01004>_, [yet] wherefore hast thou stolen <01589> (8804) my gods <0430>_?
And Jacob <03290> answered <06030> (8799) and said <0559> (8799) to Laban <03837>_, Because I was afraid <03372> (8804)_: for I said <0559> (8804)_, Peradventure <06435> thou wouldest take by force <01497> (8799) thy daughters <01323> from me.
With whomsoever <0834> thou findest <04672> (8799) thy gods <0430>_, let him not live <02421> (8799)_: before <05048> our brethren <0251> discern <05234> (8685) thou what [is] thine with me, and take <03947> (8798) [it] to thee. For Jacob <03290> knew <03045> (8804) not that Rachel <07354> had stolen <01589> (8804) them.
And Laban <03837> went <0935> (8799) into Jacob's <03290> tent <0168>_, and into Leah's <03812> tent <0168>_, and into the two <08147> maidservants <0519>_' tents <0168>_; but he found <04672> (8804) [them] not. Then went he out <03318> (8799) of Leah's <03812> tent <0168>_, and entered <0935> (8799) into Rachel's <07354> tent <0168>_.
Now Rachel <07354> had taken <03947> (8804) the images <08655>_, and put <07760> (8799) them in the camel's <01581> furniture <03733>_, and sat <03427> (8799) upon them. And Laban <03837> searched <04959> (8762) all the tent <0168>_, but found <04672> (8804) [them] not. {searched: Heb. felt}
And she said <0559> (8799) to her father <01>_, Let it not displease <02734> (8799) <05869> my lord <0113> that I cannot <03201> (8799) rise up <06965> (8800) before thee <06440>_; for the custom <01870> of women <0802> [is] upon me. And he searched <02664> (8762)_, but found <04672> (8804) not the images <08655>_.
And Jacob <03290> was wroth <02734> (8799)_, and chode <07378> (8799) with Laban <03837>_: and Jacob <03290> answered <06030> (8799) and said <0559> (8799) to Laban <03837>_, What [is] my trespass <06588>_? what [is] my sin <02403>_, that thou hast so hotly pursued <01814> (8804) after me <0310>_?
Whereas <03588> thou hast searched <04959> (8765) all my stuff <03627>_, what hast thou found <04672> (8804) of all thy household <01004> stuff <03627>_? set <07760> (8798) [it] here <03541> before my brethren <0251> and thy brethren <0251>_, that they may judge <03198> (8686) betwixt <0996> us both <08147>_. {searched: Heb. felt}
This twenty <06242> years <08141> [have] I [been] with thee; thy ewes <07353> and thy she goats <05795> have not cast their young <07921> (8765)_, and the rams <0352> of thy flock <06629> have I not eaten <0398> (8804)_.
That which was torn <02966> [of beasts] I brought <0935> (8689) not unto thee; I bare the loss <02398> (8762) of it; of my hand <03027> didst thou require <01245> (8762) it, [whether] stolen <01589> (8803) by day <03117>_, or stolen <01589> (8803) by night <03915>_.
[Thus] I was; in the day <03117> the drought <02721> consumed <0398> (8804) me, and the frost <07140> by night <03915>_; and my sleep <08142> departed <05074> (8799) from mine eyes <05869>_.
Thus have I been twenty <06242> years <08141> in thy house <01004>_; I served thee <05647> (8804) fourteen <0702> <06240> years <08141> for thy two <08147> daughters <01323>_, and six <08337> years <08141> for thy cattle <06629>_: and thou hast changed <02498> (8686) my wages <04909> ten <06235> times <04489>_.
Except <03884> the God <0430> of my father <01>_, the God <0430> of Abraham <085>_, and the fear <06343> of Isaac <03327>_, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away <07971> (8765) now empty <07387>_. God <0430> hath seen <07200> (8804) mine affliction <06040> and the labour <03018> of my hands <03709>_, and rebuked <03198> (8686) [thee] yesternight <0570>_.
And Laban <03837> answered <06030> (8799) and said <0559> (8799) unto Jacob <03290>_, [These] daughters <01323> [are] my daughters <01323>_, and [these] children <01121> [are] my children <01121>_, and [these] cattle <06629> [are] my cattle <06629>_, and all that thou seest <07200> (8802) [is] mine: and what can I do <06213> (8799) this day <03117> unto these my daughters <01323>_, or <0176> unto their children <01121> which they have born <03205> (8804)_?
Now therefore come thou <03212> (8798)_, let us make <03772> (8799) a covenant <01285>_, I and thou; and let it be for a witness <05707> between me and thee.
And Jacob <03290> took <03947> (8799) a stone <068>_, and set it up <07311> (8686) [for] a pillar <04676>_.
And Jacob <03290> said <0559> (8799) unto his brethren <0251>_, Gather <03950> (8798) stones <068>_; and they took <03947> (8799) stones <068>_, and made <06213> (8799) an heap <01530>_: and they did eat <0398> (8799) there upon the heap <01530>_.
And Laban <03837> called <07121> (8799) it Jegarsahadutha <03026>_: but Jacob <03290> called <07121> (8804) it Galeed <01567>_. {Jegarsahadutha: that is, The heap of witness, Chaldee} {Galeed: that is, The heap of witness, Heb.}
And Laban <03837> said <0559> (8799)_, This heap <01530> [is] a witness <05707> between me and thee this day <03117>_. Therefore was the name <08034> of it called <07121> (8804) Galeed <01567>_;
And Mizpah <04709>_; for <0834> he said <0559> (8804)_, The LORD <03068> watch <06822> (8799) between me and thee, when we are absent <05641> (8735) one <0376> from another <07453>_. {Mizpah: that is, A beacon, or, watchtower}
If thou shalt afflict <06031> (8762) my daughters <01323>_, or if thou shalt take <03947> (8799) [other] wives <0802> beside <05921> my daughters <01323>_, no man <0376> [is] with us; see <07200> (8798)_, God <0430> [is] witness <05707> betwixt me and thee.
And Laban <03837> said <0559> (8799) to Jacob <03290>_, Behold this heap <01530>_, and behold [this] pillar <04676>_, which I have cast <03384> (8804) betwixt me and thee;
This heap <01530> [be] witness <05707>_, and [this] pillar <04676> [be] witness <05713>_, that I will not pass over <05674> (8799) this heap <01530> to thee, and that thou shalt not pass over <05674> (8799) this heap <01530> and this pillar <04676> unto me, for harm <07451>_.
The God <0430> of Abraham <085>_, and the God <0430> of Nahor <05152>_, the God <0430> of their father <01>_, judge <08199> (8799) betwixt us. And Jacob <03290> sware <07650> (8735) by the fear <06343> of his father <01> Isaac <03327>_.
Then Jacob <03290> offered <02076> (8799) sacrifice <02077> upon the mount <02022>_, and called <07121> (8799) his brethren <0251> to eat <0398> (8800) bread <03899>_: and they did eat <0398> (8799) bread <03899>_, and tarried all night <03885> (8799) in the mount <02022>_. {offered...: or, killed beasts}
And early <07925> (0) in the morning <01242> Laban <03837> rose up <07925> (8686)_, and kissed <05401> (8762) his sons <01121> and his daughters <01323>_, and blessed <01288> (8762) them: and Laban <03837> departed <03212> (8799)_, and returned <07725> (8799) unto his place <04725>_.
