Now Naaman<5283>, captain<8269> of the army<6635> of the king<4428> of Aram<758>, was a great<1419> man<376> with his master<113>, and highly respected<5375><6440>, because<3588> by him the LORD<3068> had given<5414> victory<8668> to Aram<758>. The man<376> was also a valiant<2428> warrior<1368>, but he was a leper<6879>.
Now the Arameans<758> had gone<3318> out in bands<1416> and had taken<7617> captive<7628> a little<6996> girl<5291> from the land<776> of Israel<3478>; and she waited<1961> on Naaman's<5283> wife<802>.
She said<559> to her mistress<1404>, "I wish<305> that my master<113> were with the prophet<5030> who<834> is in Samaria<8111>! Then<227> he would cure<622> him of his leprosy<6883>."
Naaman went<935> in and told<5046> his master<113>, saying<559>, "Thus<2088> and thus<2088> spoke<1696> the girl<5291> who<834> is from the land<776> of Israel<3478>."
Then the king<4428> of Aram<758> said<559>, "Go<1980> now<935>, and I will send<7971> a letter<5612> to the king<4428> of Israel<3478>." He departed<1980> and took<3947> with him ten<6235> talents<3603> of silver<3701> and six<8337> thousand<505> shekels of gold<2091> and ten<6235> changes<2487> of clothes<899>.
He brought<935> the letter<5612> to the king<4428> of Israel<3478>, saying<559>, "And now<6258> as this<2088> letter<5612> comes<935> to you, behold<2009>, I have sent<7971> Naaman<5283> my servant<5650> to you, that you may cure<622> him of his leprosy<6883>."
When the king<4428> of Israel<3478> read<7121> the letter<5612>, he tore<7167> his clothes<899> and said<559>, "Am I God<430>, to kill<4191> and to make<2421> alive<2421>, that this<2088> man is sending<7971> word to me to cure<622> a man<376> of his leprosy<6883>? But consider<3045> now<4994>, and see<7200> how<3588> he is seeking<579> a quarrel<579> against me."
It happened<1961> when Elisha<477> the man<376> of God<430> heard<8085> that the king<4428> of Israel<3478> had torn<7167> his clothes<899>, that he sent<7971> word to the king<4428>, saying<559>, "Why<4100> have you torn<7167> your clothes<899>? Now<4994> let him come<935> to me, and he shall know<3045> that there<3426> is a prophet<5030> in Israel<3478>."
So Naaman<5283> came<935> with his horses<5483> and his chariots<7393> and stood<5975> at the doorway<6607> of the house<1004> of Elisha<477>.
Elisha<477> sent<7971> a messenger<4397> to him, saying<559>, "Go<1980> and wash<7364> in the Jordan<3383> seven<7651> times<6471>, and your flesh<1320> will be restored<7725> to you and you will be clean<2891>."
But Naaman<5283> was furious<7107> and went<1980> away and said<559>, "Behold<2009>, I thought<559>, 'He will surely<3318> come<3318> out to me and stand<5975> and call<7121> on the name<8034> of the LORD<3068> his God<430>, and wave<5130> his hand<3027> over<413> the place<4725> and cure<622> the leper<6879>.'
"Are not Abanah<71> and Pharpar<6554>, the rivers<5104> of Damascus<1834>, better<2896> than<4480> all<3605> the waters<4325> of Israel<3478>? Could I not wash<7364> in them and be clean<2891>?" So he turned<6437> and went<1980> away in a rage<2534>.
Then his servants<5650> came<5066> near<5066> and spoke<1696> to him and said<559>, "My father<1>, had the prophet<5030> told<1696> you to do some great<1419> thing<1697>, would you not have done<6213> it? How<637> much<637><3588> more<637><3588> then, when<3588> he says<559> to you, 'Wash<7364>, and be clean<2891>'?"
So he went<3381> down<3381> and dipped<2881> himself seven<7651> times<6471> in the Jordan<3383>, according to the word<1697> of the man<376> of God<430>; and his flesh<1320> was restored<7725> like the flesh<1320> of a little<6996> child<5288> and he was clean<2891>.
When he returned<7725> to the man<376> of God<430> with all<3605> his company<4264>, and came<935> and stood<5975> before<6440> him, he said<559>, "Behold<2009> now<4994>, I know<3045> that there<369> is no<369> God<430> in all<3605> the earth<776>, but in Israel<3478>; so please<4994> take<3947> a present<1293> from your servant<5650> now<6258>."
But he said<559>, "As the LORD<3068> lives<2416>, before<6440> whom<834> I stand<5975>, I will take<3947> nothing<518>." And he urged<6484> him to take<3947> it, but he refused<3985>.
Naaman<5283> said<559>, "If not, please<4994> let your servant<5650> at least be given<5414> two<6776> mules'<6505> load<4853> of earth<127>; for your servant<5650> will no<3808> longer<5750> offer<6213> burnt<5930> offering<5930> nor<3808> will he sacrifice<2077> to other<312> gods<430>, but to the LORD<3068>.
"In this<2088> matter<1697> may the LORD<3068> pardon<5545> your servant<5650>: when my master<113> goes<935> into the house<1004> of Rimmon<7417> to worship<7812> there<8033>, and he leans<8172> on my hand<3027> and I bow<7812> myself in the house<1004> of Rimmon<7417>, when I bow<7812> myself in the house<1004> of Rimmon<7417>, the LORD<3068> pardon<5545> your servant<5650> in this<2088> matter<1697>."
He said<559> to him, "Go<1980> in peace<7965>." So he departed<1980> from him some<3530> distance<3530><776>.
But Gehazi<1522>, the servant<5288> of Elisha<477> the man<376> of God<430>, thought<559>, "Behold<2009>, my master<113> has spared<2820> this<2088> Naaman<5283> the Aramean<761>, by not receiving<3947> from his hands<3027> what<834> he brought<935>. As the LORD<3068> lives<2416>, I will run<7323> after<310> him and take<3947> something<3972> from him."
So Gehazi<1522> pursued<7291> Naaman<5283>. When Naaman<5283> saw<7200> one running<7323> after<310> him, he came<5307> down<5307> from the chariot<4818> to meet<7122> him and said<559>, "Is all well<7965>?"
He said<559>, "All is well<7965>. My master<113> has sent<7971> me, saying<559>, 'Behold<2009>, just<2088> now<6258> two<8147> young<5288> men<5288> of the sons<1121> of the prophets<5030> have come<935> to me from the hill<2022> country<2022> of Ephraim<669>. Please<4994> give<5414> them a talent<3603> of silver<3701> and two<8147> changes<2487> of clothes<899>.'"
Naaman<5283> said<559>, "Be pleased<2974> to take<3947> two talents<3603>." And he urged<6555> him, and bound<6696> two talents<3603> of silver<3701> in two<8147> bags<2754> with two<8147> changes<2487> of clothes<899> and gave<5414> them to two<8147> of his servants<5288>; and they carried<5375> them before<6440> him.
When he came<935> to the hill<6076>, he took<3947> them from their hand<3027> and deposited<6485> them in the house<1004>, and he sent<7971> the men<376> away<7971>, and they departed<1980>.
But he went<935> in and stood<5975> before<413> his master<113>. And Elisha<477> said<559> to him, "Where<575> have you been, Gehazi<1522>?" And he said<559>, "Your servant<5650> went<1980> nowhere<3808><575>."
Then he said<559> to him, "Did not my heart<3820> go<1980> with you, when<3512> the man<376> turned<2015> from his chariot<4818> to meet<7122> you? Is it a time<6256> to receive<3947> money<3701> and to receive<3947> clothes<899> and olive<2132> groves<2132> and vineyards<3754> and sheep<6629> and oxen<1241> and male<5650> and female<8198> servants<5650><8198>?
"Therefore, the leprosy<6883> of Naaman<5283> shall cling<1692> to you and to your descendants<2233> forever<5769>." So he went<3318> out from his presence<6440> a leper<6879> as white as snow<7950>.
