A Maskil of Asaph. O God<430>, why<4100> have You rejected<2186> us forever<5331>? Why does Your anger<639> smoke<6225> against the sheep<6629> of Your pasture<4830>?
Remember<2142> Your congregation<5712>, which You have purchased<7069> of old<6924>, Which You have redeemed<1350> to be the tribe<7626> of Your inheritance<5159>; And this<2088> Mount<2022> Zion<6726>, where<2088> You have dwelt<7931>.
Turn<7311> Your footsteps<6471> toward the perpetual<5331> ruins<4876>; The enemy<340> has damaged<7489> everything<3605> within the sanctuary<6944>.
Your adversaries<6887> have roared<7580> in the midst<7130> of Your meeting<4150> place<4150>; They have set<7760> up their own standards<226> for signs<226>.
It seems<3045> as if one had lifted<935> up His axe<7134> in a forest<5441> of trees<6086>.
And now<6258> all<3162> its carved<6603> work<6603> They smash<1986> with hatchet<3781> and hammers<3597>.
They have burned<7971><784> Your sanctuary<4720> to the ground<776>; They have defiled<2490> the dwelling<4908> place<4908> of Your name<8034>.
They said<559> in their heart<3820>, "Let us completely<3162> subdue<3238> them." They have burned<8313> all<3605> the meeting<4150> places<4150> of God<410> in the land<776>.
We do not see<7200> our signs<226>; There<369> is no<369> longer<5750> any prophet<5030>, Nor<3808> is there any among<854> us who knows<3045> how<4100> long<5704>.
How<4970> long<5704><4970>, O God<430>, will the adversary<6862> revile<2778>, And the enemy<340> spurn<5006> Your name<8034> forever<5331>?
Why<4100> do You withdraw<7725> Your hand<3027>, even Your right<3225> hand<3225>? From within<7130> Your bosom<2436>, destroy<3615> them!
Yet God<430> is my king<4428> from of old<6924>, Who works<6466> deeds<3444> of deliverance<3444> in the midst<7130> of the earth<776>.
You divided<6565> the sea<3220> by Your strength<5797>; You broke<7665> the heads<7218> of the sea<8577> monsters<8577> in the waters<4325>.
You crushed<7533> the heads<7218> of Leviathan<3882>; You gave<5414> him as food<3978> for the creatures<5971> of the wilderness<6716>.
You broke<1234> open<1234> springs<4599> and torrents<5158>; You dried<3001> up ever-flowing<386> streams<5104>.
Yours is the day<3117>, Yours also<637> is the night<3915>; You have prepared<3559> the light<3974> and the sun<8121>.
You have established<5324> all<3605> the boundaries<1367> of the earth<776>; You have made<3335> summer<7019> and winter<2779>.
Remember<2142> this<384>, O LORD<3068>, that the enemy<340> has reviled<2778>, And a foolish<5036> people<5971> has spurned<5006> Your name<8034>.
Do not deliver<5414> the soul<5315> of Your turtledove<8449> to the wild<2421> beast<2421>; Do not forget<7911> the life<2421> of Your afflicted<6041> forever<5331>.
Consider<5027> the covenant<1285>; For the dark<4285> places<4285> of the land<776> are full<4390> of the habitations<4999> of violence<2555>.
Let not the oppressed<1790> return<7725> dishonored<3637>; Let the afflicted<6041> and needy<34> praise<1984> Your name<8034>.
Arise<6965>, O God<430>, and plead<7378> Your own cause<7379>; Remember<2142> how the foolish<5036> man<5036> reproaches<2781> You all<3605> day<3117> long.
Do not forget<7911> the voice<6963> of Your adversaries<6887>, The uproar<7588> of those who rise<6965> against You which ascends<5927> continually<8548>.
