The Philistines <06430> assembled <06908> all <03605> their troops <04264> at Aphek <0663>, while Israel <03478> camped <02583> at the spring <05869> that <0834> is in Jezreel <03157>.
When the leaders <05633> of the Philistines <06430> were passing <05674> in review at the head of their units of hundreds <03967> and thousands <0505>, David <01732> and his men <0376> were passing <05674> in review in the rear <0314> with <05973> Achish <0397>.
The leaders <08269> of the Philistines <06430> asked <0559>, “What <04100> about these <0428> Hebrews <05680>?” Achish <0397> said <0559> to <0413> the leaders <08269> of the Philistines <06430>, “Isn’t <03808> this <02088> David <01732>, the servant <05650> of King <04428> Saul <07586> of Israel <03478>, who <0834> has <01961> been with <0854> me for quite some time <08141> <02088> <03117> <02088>? I have found <04672> no <03808> fault <03972> with him from the day <03117> of his defection <05307> until <05704> the present time <03117>!”
But the leaders <08269> of the Philistines <06430> became angry <07107> with him and said <06430> <08269> <0559> to him, “Send <07725> the man <0376> back <07725>! Let him return <07725> to <0413> the place <04725> that <0834> you assigned <06485> him! Don’t <03808> let him go down <03381> with <05973> us into the battle <04421>, for he might become <01961> <03808> our adversary <07854> in the battle <04421>. What <04100> better <07521> way to <0413> please his lord <0113> than with the heads <07218> of these men <0582>?
Isn’t <03808> this <02088> David <01732>, of whom <0834> they sang <06030> as they danced <04246>, ‘Saul <07586> has struck down <05221> his thousands <0505>, but David <01732> his tens of thousands <07233>’?”
So Achish <0397> summoned <07121> David <01732> and said <0559> to <0413> him, “As surely as the Lord <03068> lives <02416>, you <0859> are an honest <03477> man, and I am glad <02896> to have <05869> you serving <0935> <03318> with <0854> me in the army <04264>. I have found <04672> no <03808> fault <07451> with you from the day <03117> that you first came <0935> to <0413> me until <05704> the present time <03117>. But in the opinion <05869> of the leaders <05633>, you <0859> are not <03808> reliable <02896>.
So <06258> turn <07725> and leave <01980> in peace <07965>. You must not <03808> do <06213> anything that the leaders <05633> of the Philistines <06430> consider improper <05869> <07451>!”
But <03588> David <01732> said <0559> to <0413> Achish <0397>, “What <04100> have I done <06213>? What <04100> have you found <04672> in your servant <05650> from the day <03117> that <0834> I first came <01961> into your presence <06440> until <05704> the present <02088> time <03117>, that <03588> I shouldn’t <03808> go <0935> and fight <03898> the enemies <0341> of my lord <0113> the king <04428>?”
Achish <0397> replied <06030> to <0413> David <01732>, “I am convinced <03045> that <03588> you <0859> are as reliable <05869> <02896> as the angel <04397> of God <0430>! However <0389>, the leaders <08269> of the Philistines <06430> have said <0559>, ‘He must not <03808> go up <05927> with <05973> us in the battle <04421>.’
So <06258> get up early <07925> in the morning <01242> along with the servants <05650> of your lord <0113> who <0834> have come <0935> with <0854> you. When you get up early <07925> in the morning <01242>, as soon as it is light <0215> enough to see, leave <01980>.”
So David <01732> and his <01931> men <0582> got up early <07925> in the morning <01242> to return <07725> <01980> to <0413> the land <0776> of the Philistines <06430>, but the Philistines <06430> went up <05927> to Jezreel <03157>.
