When <01961> David <01732> had settled <03427> into his palace <01004>, he <01732> said <0559> to <0413> Nathan <05416> the prophet <05030>, “Look <02009>, I <0595> am living <03427> in a palace <01004> made from cedar <0729>, while the ark <0727> of the Lord’s <03068> covenant <01285> is under <08478> a tent <03407>.”

Nathan <05416> said <0559> to <0413> David <01732>, “You should do <06213> whatever <0834> <03605> you have in mind <03824>, for <03588> God <0430> is with <05973> you.”

That <01931> night <03915> God <0430> told <01697> Nathan <05416> the prophet,

“Go <01980>, tell <0559> my servant <05650> David <01732>: ‘This is what <03541> the Lord <03068> says <0559>: “You <0859> must not <03808> build <01129> me a house <01004> in which to live <03427>.

For <03588> I have not <03808> lived <03427> in a house <01004> from <04480> the time <03117> I brought <05927> Israel <03478> up <05927> from Egypt to <05704> the present day <03117>. I have lived <01961> in a tent <0168> that has been in <0413> various places <04908> <0168>.

Wherever <03605> I moved <01980> throughout <03605> Israel <03478>, I did not say <01696> to any <0259> of the leaders <08199> whom <0834> I appointed <06680> to care <07462> for my people <05971> Israel <03478>, ‘Why <04100> have you not <03808> built <01129> me a house <01004> made from cedar <0729>?’”’

“So now <06258>, say <0559> this <03541> to my servant <05650> David <01732>: ‘This is what <03541> the Lord <03068> who commands armies <06635> says <0559>: “I <0589> took <03947> you from <04480> the pasture <05116> and from <04480> your work as a shepherd <06629> <0310> to make <01961> you a leader <05057> of <05921> my people <05971> Israel <03478>.

I was <01961> with <05973> you wherever <0834> <03605> you went <01980> and I defeated <03772> all <03605> your enemies <0341> before <06440> you. Now I will make <06213> you as famous <08034> <08034> as the great men <01419> of the earth <0776>.

I will establish <07760> a place <04725> for my people <05971> Israel <03478> and settle <05193> them there <08478>; they will live <07931> there and not <03808> be disturbed <07264> anymore <05750>. Violent men <05766> <01121> will not <03808> oppress <01086> them again <03254>, as <0834> they did in the beginning <07223>

and during the time <03117> when <0834> I appointed <06680> judges <08199> to lead <05921> my people <05971> Israel <03478>. I will subdue <03665> all <03605> your enemies <0341>. “_’"I declare <05046> to you that the Lord <03068> will build <01129> a dynastic house <01004> for you!

When <01961> the time <03117> comes <04390> for <03588> you to die <01> <05973> <01980>, I will raise up <06965> your descendant <02233>, one of your own sons <01121>, to succeed you, and I will establish <03559> his kingdom <04438>.

He <01931> will build <01129> me a house <01004>, and I will make <03559> his dynasty <03678> permanent <05769> <05704>.

I <0589> will become <01961> his father <01> and he <01931> will become <01961> my son <01121>. I will never <03808> withhold <05493> my loyal love <02617> from <05973> him, as <0834> I withheld <05493> it from the one who <0834> ruled <01961> before <06440> you.

I will put <05975> him in permanent <05769> <05704> charge of my house <01004> and my kingdom <04438>; his dynasty <03678> will be <03559> <01961> permanent <05769> <05704>.”’”

Nathan <05416> told <01696> David <01732> all <03605> these <0428> words <01697> that were revealed to him.

David <01732> went in <0935>, sat <03427> before <06440> the Lord <03068>, and said <0559>: “Who <04310> am I <0589>, O Lord <03068> God <0430>, and what <04310> is my family <01004>, that <03588> you should have brought <0935> me to <05704> this point <01988>?

And you did not stop there, O God <0430>! You have also spoken <01696> about the future <07350> of your servant’s <05650> family <01004>. You have revealed <07200> to me what men <0120> long to know <04609>, O Lord <03068> God <0430>.

What <04100> more <05750> <03254> can David <01732> say to <0413> you? You have honored <03519> your servant <05650>; you <0859> have given <03045> your servant <05650> special recognition <03045>.

O Lord <03068>, for the sake of <05668> your servant <05650> and according to your will <03820>, you have done <06213> this <02063> great thing <01420> in order to reveal <03045> your greatness <01420>.

O Lord <03068>, there is none <0369> like <03644> you; there is no <0369> God <0430> besides <02108> you! What we heard <08085> is true <0834> <03605>!

And who <04310> is like your people <05971>, Israel <03478>, a unique <0259> nation <01471> in the earth <0776>? Their God <0430> went <01980> to claim <06299> a nation <05971> for himself! You made <07760> a name <08034> for yourself by doing great <01420> and awesome <03372> deeds when you drove out <01644> nations before <06440> your people <05971> whom <0834> you had delivered <06299> from the Egyptian <04714> empire <01471> and its gods.

You made <05414> Israel <03478> <05971> your very own nation <05971> for all time <05769> <05704>. You <0859>, O Lord <03068>, became <01961> their God <0430>.

So now <06258>, O Lord <03068>, may the promise <01697> you made <01696> about <05921> your servant <05650> and his family <01004> become <0539> a permanent <05769> <05704> reality <0539>! Do <06213> as <0834> you promised <01696>,

so it may become a reality <0539> and you may gain lasting <05769> fame <08034> <01431>, as people say <0559>, ‘The Lord <03068> who commands armies <06635> is the God <0430> <0430> of Israel <03478>.’ David’s <01732> dynasty <01004> will be established <03559> before <06440> you,

for <03588> you <0859>, my God <0430>, have revealed <01540> to your servant <05650> that you will build <01129> a dynasty <01004> for <05921> him. That is why <03651> your servant <05650> has had the courage <04672> to pray <06419> to <06440> you.

Now <06258>, O Lord <03068>, you <0859> are the true God <0430>; you have made <01696> this <02063> good <02896> promise <01696> to <05921> your servant <05650>.

Now <06258> you are willing <02974> to bless <01288> your servant’s <05650> dynasty <01004> so that it may stand <01961> permanently <05769> before <06440> you, for <03588> you <0859>, O Lord <03068>, have blessed <01288> it and it will be blessed <01288> from now on into the future <05769>.”
