David <01732> then said <0559>, “This <02088> is the place <01931> where the temple <01004> of the Lord <03068> God <0430> will be, along with the altar <04196> for burnt sacrifices <05930> for Israel <03478>.”
David <01732> ordered <0559> the <0853> resident foreigners <01616> in the land <0776> of Israel <03478> to be called together <03664>. He appointed <05975> some of them to be stonecutters <02672> <02672> to chisel <01496> stones <068> for the building <01129> of God’s <0430> temple <01004>.
David <01732> supplied <03559> a large amount <07230> of iron <01270> for the nails <04548> of the doors <01817> of the gates <08179> and for braces <04226>, more <07230> bronze <05178> than could be weighed <04948>,
and more <0369> cedar <0730> logs <06086> than could be counted <04557>. (The Sidonians <06722> and Tyrians <06876> had brought <0935> a large amount <07230> of cedar <0730> logs <06086> to David <01732>.)
David <01732> said <0559>, “My son <01121> Solomon <08010> is just an inexperienced <07390> young man <05288>, and the temple <01004> to be built <01129> for the Lord <03068> must be especially <04605> magnificent <01431> so it will become famous <08034> and be considered splendid <08597> by all <03605> the nations <0776>. Therefore I will make preparations <03559> for its construction.” So David <01732> made <03559> extensive <07230> preparations <03559> before <06440> he died <04194>.
He summoned <07121> his son <01121> Solomon <08010> and charged <06680> him to build <01129> a temple <01004> for the Lord <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.
David <01732> said <0559> to Solomon <08010>: “My son <01121>, I <0589> really wanted <03824> <05973> <01961> to build <01129> a temple <01004> to honor <08034> the Lord <03068> my God <0430>.
But the Lord <03068> said <0559> to <05921> me: ‘You have spilled <08210> a great <01419> deal of blood <01818> and fought <06213> many <07230> battles <04421>. You must not <03808> build <01129> a temple <01004> to honor <08034> me, for <03588> you have spilled <08210> a great <07227> deal of blood <01818> on the ground <0776> before <06440> me.
Look <02009>, you will have <03205> a son <01121>, who will be <01961> a peaceful <04496> man <0376>. I will give him rest <05117> from all <03605> his enemies <0341> on every side <05439>. Indeed <03588>, Solomon <08010> will be <01961> his name <08034>; I will give <05414> Israel <03478> peace <07965> and quiet <08253> during <03117> his reign.
He <01931> will build <01129> a temple <01004> to honor <08034> me; he <01931> will become <01961> my son <01121>, and I <0589> will become his father <01>. I will grant <03559> to his dynasty <03678> permanent <05769> <05704> rule <04438> over <05921> Israel <03478>.’
“Now <06258>, my son <01121>, may the Lord <03068> be <01961> with <05973> you! May you succeed <06743> and build <01129> a temple <01004> for the Lord <03068> your God <0430>, just as <0834> he announced <01696> you would.
Only <0389> may the Lord <03068> give <05414> you insight <07922> and understanding <0998> when he places you in charge of <06680> Israel <03478>, so you may obey <08104> the law <08451> of the Lord <03068> your God <0430>.
Then <0227> you will succeed <06743>, if <0518> you carefully <08104> obey <06213> the rules <02706> and regulations <04941> which <0834> the Lord <03068> ordered <06680> Moses <04872> to give to Israel <03478>. Be strong <02388> and brave <0553>! Don’t <0408> be afraid <03372> and don’t <0408> panic <02865>!
Now, look <02009>, I have made every effort <06040> to supply what is needed to <03559> build the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004>. I have stored up 100,000 <0505> <03967> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, 1,000,000 <0505> <0505> talents <03603> of silver <03701>, and so much <07230> bronze <05178> and iron <01270> it cannot <0369> be <01961> weighed <04948>, as well as wood <06086> and stones <068>. Feel <03559> free to add more <03254>!
You also have available <06213> many <07230> workers <04399>, including stonecutters <02672>, masons, carpenters <06086> <068> <02796>, and an innumerable array <03605> of workers <04399> who are skilled <02450>
in using gold <02091>, silver <03701>, bronze <05178>, and iron <01270>. Get up <06965> and begin the work <06213>! May the Lord <03068> be <01961> with <05973> you!”
David <01732> ordered <06680> all <03605> the officials <08269> of Israel <03478> to support <05826> his son <01121> Solomon <08010>.
He told them, “The Lord <03068> your God <0430> is with <05973> you! He has made <05117> you secure <05117> on every side <05439>, for <03588> he handed over <03027> <05414> to me the inhabitants <03427> of the region <0776> and the region <0776> is subdued <03533> before <06440> the Lord <03068> and his people <05971>.
Now <06258> seek <01875> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> wholeheartedly <03824> <05414> and with your entire being <05315>! Get up <06965> and build <01129> the sanctuary <04720> of the Lord <03068> God <0430>! Then you can bring <0935> the ark <0727> of the Lord’s <03068> covenant <01285> and the holy <06944> items <03627> dedicated to God’s <0430> service into the temple <01004> that is built <01129> to honor <08034> the Lord <03068>.”
