“‘When <03588> a person <05315> sins <02398> in that he hears <08085> a public <06963> curse <0423> against one who fails to testify and he <01931> is a witness <05707> (he either <0176> saw <07200> or <0176> knew <03045> what had happened) and he does not <03808> make <05046> it known <05046>, then he will bear <05375> his punishment for iniquity <05771>.
Or <0176> when <0834> there is a person <05315> who touches <05060> anything <03605> ceremonially <01697> unclean <02931>, whether <0176> the carcass <05038> of an unclean <02931> wild animal <02416>, or <0176> the carcass <05038> of an unclean <02931> domesticated animal <0929>, or <0176> the carcass <05038> of an unclean <02931> creeping thing <08318>, even if he did not realize <05956> it, but he <01931> himself has become unclean <02931> and is guilty <0816>;
or <0176> when <03588> he touches <05060> human <0120> uncleanness <02932> with regard to anything <03605> by which he can become unclean <02930>, even if <0834> he did not realize <05956> it, but he <01931> himself has later come to know <03045> it and is guilty <0816>;
or <0176> when <03588> a person <05315> swears <07650> an oath, speaking thoughtlessly <0981> with his lips <08193>, whether to do evil <07489> or <0176> to do good <03190>, with regard to anything <03605> which <0834> the individual <0120> might speak thoughtlessly <0981> in an oath <07621>, even if he did not realize <05956> it, but he himself has later come to know <03045> it and is guilty <0816> with regard to one <0259> of these <0428> oaths–
when <03588> an individual becomes guilty <0816> with regard to one <0259> of these <0428> things he must confess <03034> how <0834> he has sinned <02398>,
and he must bring <0935> his penalty for guilt <0817> to the Lord <03068> for <05921> his sin <02403> that <0834> he has committed <02398>, a female <05347> from <04480> the flock <06629>, whether a female sheep <03776> or <0176> a female goat <05795>, for a sin offering <02403>. So the priest <03548> will make atonement <03722> on <05921> his behalf for his sin <02403>.
“‘If <0518> he cannot <03808> afford <03027> <05060> an animal from the flock <07716> <01767>, he must bring <0935> his penalty <0817> for guilt for his sin that <0834> he has committed <02398>, two <08147> turtledoves <08449> or <0176> two <08147> young <01121> pigeons <03123>, to the Lord <03068>, one <0259> for a sin offering <02403> and one <0259> for a burnt offering <05930>.
He must bring <0935> them to <0413> the priest <03548> and present <07126> first <07223> the one that <0834> is for a sin offering <02403>. The priest must pinch <04454> its head <07218> at the nape <04136> of its neck <06203>, but must not <03808> sever <0914> the head from the body.
Then he must sprinkle <05137> some of the blood <01818> of the sin offering <02403> on <05921> the wall <07023> of the altar <04196>, and the remainder <07604> of the blood <01818> must be squeezed out <04680> at <0413> the base <03247> of the altar <04196>– it <01931> is a sin offering <02403>.
The second <08145> bird he must make <06213> a burnt offering <05930> according to the standard regulation <04941>. So the priest <03548> will make atonement <03722> on <05921> behalf of this person for his sin <02403> which <0834> he has committed <02398>, and he will be forgiven <05545>.
“‘If <0518> he cannot <03808> afford <03027> <05381> two <08147> turtledoves <08449> or <0176> two <08147> young <01121> pigeons <03123>, he must bring <0935> as his offering <07133> for his sin which <0834> he has committed <02398> a tenth <06224> of an ephah <0374> of choice wheat flour <05560> for a sin offering <02403>. He must not <03808> place <07760> olive oil <08081> on <05921> it and he must not <03808> put <05414> frankincense <03828> on <05921> it, because <03588> it is a sin offering <02403>.
He must bring <0935> it to <0413> the priest <03548> and the priest <03548> must scoop out <07061> from <04480> it a handful <07062> <04393> as its memorial portion <0234> and offer it up in smoke <06999> on the altar <04196> on <05921> top of the other gifts <0801> of the Lord <03068>– it <01931> is a sin offering <02403>.
So the priest <03548> will make atonement <03722> on <05921> his behalf for <05921> his sin <02403> which <0834> he has committed <02398> by doing one <0259> of these things <0428>, and he will be forgiven <05545>. The remainder of the offering will belong to <01961> the priest <03548> like the grain offering <04503>.’”
Then the Lord <03068> spoke <01696> to <0413> Moses <04872>:
“When a person <05315> commits <04603> a trespass <04604> and sins <02398> by straying unintentionally <07684> from the regulations about the Lord’s <03068> holy <06944> things, then he must bring <0935> his penalty for guilt <0817> to the Lord <03068>, a flawless <08549> ram <0352> from <04480> the flock <06629>, convertible <06187> into silver <03701> shekels <08255> according to the standard of the sanctuary <06944> shekel <08255>, for a guilt offering <0817>.
And whatever <0834> holy <06944> thing he violated <02398> he must restore <07999> and must add <03254> one fifth <02549> to <05921> it and give <05414> it to the priest <03548>. So the priest <03548> will make atonement <03722> on <05921> his behalf with the guilt offering <0817> ram <0352> and he will be forgiven <05545>.”
“If <0518> a person <05315> sins <02398> and violates <06213> any <0259> of the Lord’s <03069> commandments <04687> which <0834> must not <03808> be violated <06213> (although he did not <03808> know <03045> it at the time, but later realizes he is guilty <0816>), then he will bear <05375> his punishment for iniquity <05771>
and must bring <0935> a flawless <08549> ram <0352> from <04480> the flock <06629>, convertible into silver shekels <06187>, for a guilt offering <0817> to <0413> the priest <03548>. So the priest <03548> will make atonement <03722> on <05921> his behalf <07684> for his error <07683> which <0834> he committed (although he himself had not <03808> known <03045> it) and he will be forgiven <05545>.
It is a guilt offering <0817>; he <01931> was surely guilty <0816> before the Lord <03068>.”
