4So Rachel gave <05414> him her servant <08198> Bilhah <01090> as a wife <0802>, and Jacob <03290> had marital relations <0935> with <0413> her.
5Bilhah <01090> became pregnant <02029> and gave <03205> Jacob <03290> a son <01121>.
6Then Rachel <07354> said <0559>, “God <0430> has vindicated <01777> me. He has responded <08085> to my prayer <06963> and given <05414> me a son <01121>.” That is why <03651> she named <08034> him Dan <01835>.
7Bilhah <01090>, Rachel’s <07354> servant <08198>, became pregnant <02029> again <05750> and gave <03205> Jacob <03290> another <08145> son <01121>.
8Then Rachel <07354> said <0559>, “I have fought <06617> a desperate <0430> struggle <05319> with <05973> my sister <0269>, but I have won <03201>.” So she named <08034> <07121> him Naphtali <05321>.
9When Leah <03812> saw <07200> that <03588> she had stopped <05975> having children <03205>, she gave <05414> her servant <08198> Zilpah <02153> to Jacob <03290> as a wife <0802>.
10Soon Leah’s <03812> servant <08198> Zilpah <02153> gave <03205> Jacob <03290> a son <01121>.

14At the time <03117> of the wheat <02406> harvest <07105> Reuben <07205> went out <01980> and found <04672> some mandrake <01736> plants in a field <07704> and brought <0935> them to <0413> his mother <0517> Leah <03812>. 20Then Leah <03812> said <0559>, “God <0430> has given <02064> me a good <02896> gift <02065>. Now <06471> my husband <0376> will honor me <02082> because <03588> I have given <03205> him six <08337> sons <01121>.” So she named <08034> <07121> him Zebulun <02074>.
21After <0310> that she gave birth <03205> to a daughter <01323> and named <08034> her Dinah <01783>.
22Then God <0430> took note <02142> of Rachel <07354>. He <0430> paid attention <08085> to <0413> her and enabled <07358> <06605> her to become pregnant <07358> <06605>.
23She became pregnant <02029> and gave birth <03205> to a son <01121>. Then she said <0559>, “God <0430> has taken away <0622> my shame <02781>.”
24She named <08034> <07121> him Joseph <03130>, saying <0559>, “May the Lord <03068> give <03254> me yet another <0312> son <01121>.”
25After <01961> Rachel <07354> had given birth <03205> to Joseph <03130>, Jacob <03290> said <0559> to <0413> Laban <03837>, “Send <07971> me on my way so that I can go <01980> home <04725> to <0413> my own country <0776>.
26Let me take <05414> my wives <0802> and my children <03206> whom <0834> I have acquired by working <05647> for you. Then I’ll depart <01980>, because <03588> you <0859> know <03045> how <0834> hard I’ve worked <05647> for you.”
27But Laban <03837> said <0559> to <0413> him, “If <0518> I have found <04672> favor <02580> in your sight <05869>, please <04994> stay here, for I have learned by divination <05172> that the Lord <03068> has blessed <01288> me on account of <01558> you.”
28He added <0559>, “Just name <05344> your wages <07939>– I’ll pay <05414> whatever you want.”
29“You <0859> know <03045> how <0834> I have worked <05647> for you,” Jacob replied <0559>, “and how <0834> well your livestock <04735> have fared <01961> under <0854> my care.
30Indeed <03588>, you had little <04592> before <06440> I arrived, but now <01961> your possessions have increased <06555> many times <07230> over. The Lord <03068> has blessed <01288> you wherever I worked <07272>. But now <06258>, how long <04970> must it be before I <0595> do <06213> something for my own family <01004> too <01571>?”
31So Laban asked <0559>, “What <04100> should I give <05414> you?” “You don’t <03808> need to give <05414> me a thing <03972>,” Jacob <03290> replied <0559>, “but if <0518> you agree <06213> to this <02088> one condition <01697>, I will continue <07725> to care <07462> for your flocks <06629> and protect <08104> them:
32Let me walk among <05674> all <03605> your flocks <06629> today <03117> and remove <05493> from them every <03605> speckled <05348> or spotted <02921> sheep <07716>, every <03605> dark-colored <02345> lamb <03775> <07716>, and the spotted <02921> or speckled <05348> goats <05795>. These animals will be <01961> my wages <07939>.
33My integrity <06666> will testify <06030> for me later <04279> <03117> on. When you come <0935> to verify that I’ve taken only the wages <07939> we agreed on, if I have in my possession <06440> any <03605> goat <05795> that <0834> is not <0369> speckled <05348> or spotted <02921> or any sheep <03775> that <01931> is not dark-colored <02345>, it will be considered stolen <01589>.”
34“Agreed <02005>!” said <0559> Laban <03837>, “It will be <01961> as you say <01697>.”
35So that day <03117> Laban <01931> removed <05493> the male goats <08495> that were streaked <06124> or spotted <02921>, all <03605> the female goats <05795> that were speckled <05348> or spotted <02921> (all <03605> that <0834> had any white <03836> on them), and all <03605> the dark-colored <02345> lambs <03775>, and put <05414> them in the care <03027> of his sons <01121>.
36Then he separated <07760> them from Jacob <03290> by a three-day <03117> <07969> journey <01870>, while Jacob <03290> was taking care <07462> of the rest <03498> of Laban’s <03837> flocks <06629>.
37But Jacob <03290> took <03947> fresh-cut <03892> branches <04731> from poplar <03839>, almond <03869>, and plane trees <06196>. He made white <03836> streaks <06479> by peeling <06478> them, making <04286> the white <03836> inner wood in <05921> the branches <04731> visible <04286>.
38Then he set up <03322> the peeled <06478> branches <04731> in all the watering <04325> troughs <08268> where <0834> the flocks <06629> came <0935> to drink <08354>. He set up the branches <07298> in front of <05227> the flocks <06629> when <0834> they were in heat <03179> and came <0935> to drink <08354>.
39When the sheep <06629> mated <03179> in front of <0413> the branches <04731>, they gave birth <03205> to young that were streaked <06124> or speckled <05348> or spotted <02921>.
40Jacob <03290> removed <06504> these lambs <03775>, but he made <05414> the rest of the flock <06629> face <06440> the streaked <06124> and completely <03605> dark-colored <02345> animals in Laban’s <03837> flock <06629>. So he made <07896> separate flocks <05739> for himself <0905> and did not <03808> mix <07896> them with <05921> Laban’s <03837> flocks <06629>.
41When <01961> the stronger <07194> females <06629> were in heat <03179>, Jacob <03290> would set up <07760> the branches <04731> in the troughs <07298> in front of <05869> the flock <06629>, so they would mate <03179> near the branches <04731>.
42But if the animals <06629> were weaker <05848>, he did not <03808> set <07760> the branches there. So the weaker <05848> animals ended up belonging to Laban <03837> and the stronger <07194> animals to Jacob <03290>.
43In this way Jacob became <06555> extremely <03966> <03966> prosperous <06555>. He owned <01961> large <07227> flocks <06629>, male <05650> and female <08198> servants <05650>, camels <01581>, and donkeys <02543>.
