Dual Panel1For the leader: for David: a psalm PATIENTLY I waited for the LORD; he bent down to me and listened to my cry.
2He raised me out of the miry pit, out of the mud and clay; he set my feet on rock and gave me a firm footing.
3On my lips he put a new song, a song of praise to our God. Many will look with awe and put their trust in the LORD.
4Happy is he who puts his trust in the LORD and does not look to the arrogant and treacherous.
5LORD my God, great things you have done; your wonders and your purposes are for our good; none can compare with you. I would proclaim them and speak of them, but they are more than I can tell.
6You have not desired sacrifice or offering, you have not demanded whole-offerings or purifying offerings; you have given me receptive ears.
7Then I said, “Here I am,” as is prescribed for me in a written scroll.
8God, my desire is to do your will; your law is in my heart.
9In the great assembly I have proclaimed what is right; I do not hold back my words, as you know, LORD.
10I have not kept your goodness hidden in my heart; I have proclaimed your faithfulness and saving power, and have not concealed your unfailing love and truth from the great assembly.
11You, LORD, will not withhold your tender care from me; may your love and truth for ever guard me.
12For misfortunes beyond counting press on me from all sides; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more in number than the hairs of my head; my courage fails.
13Show me favour, LORD, and save me; LORD, come quickly to my help.
14Let all who seek to take my life be discomfited and dismayed; let those who desire my hurt be turned back in disgrace;
15let those who cry “Hurrah!” at my downfall be horrified at their shame.
16But let all who seek you be jubilant and rejoice in you; and may those who long for your saving aid for ever cry, “All glory to the LORD!”
17But I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; my God, do not delay.
