This is the message which Isaiah son of Amoz received in a vision about Judah and Jerusalem.

In days to come the mountain of the LORD's house will be set over all other mountains, raised high above the hills. All the nations will stream towards it,

and many peoples will go and say, “Let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For instruction comes from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

He will judge between the nations as arbiter among many peoples. They will beat their swords into mattocks and their spears into pruning-knives; nation will not lift sword against nation nor ever again be trained for war.

Come, people of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the LORD.

You have abandoned your people, the house of Jacob. Their towns are filled with traders from the east, and with soothsayers speaking like Philistines; the children of foreigners are everywhere.

Their land is full of silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; their land is full of horses, and there is no end to their chariots.

Their land is full of idols, and they bow down to their own handiwork, to objects their fingers have fashioned.

Mankind will be brought low, everyone will be humbled.

Get among the rocks and hide in the ground from the dread presence of the LORD and the splendour of his majesty.

Haughty looks will be cast down, loftiness brought low; the LORD alone will be exalted on that day.

The LORD of Hosts has a day of doom in store for all that is proud and lofty, for all that is high and lifted up,

for all the cedars of Lebanon, lofty and high, and all the oaks of Bashan,

for all lofty mountains and all high hills,

for every tall tower and every towering wall,

for all ships of Tarshish and all stately vessels.

Then will pride be brought low and loftiness humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted on that day.

The idols will utterly pass away.

Creep into caves in the rocks and openings in the ground from the dread presence of the LORD and the splendour of his majesty, when he arises to strike the world with terror.

On that day people will fling away the idols of silver and gold which they have made and worship, fling them to the dung-beetles and bats.

They themselves will creep into crevices in rocks and crannies in cliffs from the dread presence of the LORD and the splendour of his majesty, when he arises to strike the world with terror.

Do not rely on mere mortals. What are they worth? No more than the breath in their nostrils.
