Now Elijah<452> the Tishbite<8664>, who was of the settlers<8453> of Gilead<1568>, said<559> to Ahab<256>, "As the LORD<3068>, the God<430> of Israel<3478> lives<2416>, before<6440> whom<834> I stand<5975>, surely<518> there shall be neither<518> dew<2919> nor rain<4306> these<428> years<8141>, except<3588><518> by my word<1697>."
The word<1697> of the LORD<3068> came<1961> to him, saying<559>,
"Go<1980> away from here<2088> and turn<6437> eastward<6924>, and hide<5641> yourself by the brook<5158> Cherith<3747>, which<834> is east<5921><6440> of the Jordan<3383>.
"It shall be that you will drink<8354> of the brook<5158>, and I have commanded<6680> the ravens<6158> to provide<3557> for you there<8033>."
So he went<1980> and did<6213> according to the word<1697> of the LORD<3068>, for he went<1980> and lived<3427> by the brook<5158> Cherith<3747>, which<834> is east<5921><6440> of the Jordan<3383>.
The ravens<6158> brought<935> him bread<3899> and meat<1320> in the morning<1242> and bread<3899> and meat<1320> in the evening<6153>, and he would drink<8354> from the brook<5158>.
It happened<1961> after<4480><7093> a while<3117> that the brook<5158> dried<3001> up, because<3588> there was no<3808> rain<1653> in the land<776>.
Then the word<1697> of the LORD<3068> came<1961> to him, saying<559>,
"Arise<6965>, go<1980> to Zarephath<6886>, which<834> belongs to Sidon<6721>, and stay<3427> there<8033>; behold<2009>, I have commanded<6680> a widow<490> there<8033> to provide<3557> for you."
So he arose<6965> and went<1980> to Zarephath<6886>, and when he came<935> to the gate<6607> of the city<5892>, behold<2009>, a widow<490> was there<8033> gathering<7197> sticks<6086>; and he called<7121> to her and said<559>, "Please<4994> get<3947> me a little<4592> water<4325> in a jar<3627>, that I may drink<8354>."
As she was going<1980> to get<3947> it, he called<7121> to her and said<559>, "Please<4994> bring<3947> me a piece<6595> of bread<3899> in your hand<3027>."
But she said<559>, "As the LORD<3068> your God<430> lives<2416>, I have<3426> no<518> bread<4580>, only<3588><518> a handful<4393><3709> of flour<7058> in the bowl<3537> and a little<4592> oil<8081> in the jar<6835>; and behold<2009>, I am gathering<7197> a few<8147> sticks<6086> that I may go<935> in and prepare<6213> for me and my son<1121>, that we may eat<398> it and die<4191>."
Then Elijah<452> said<559> to her, "Do not fear<3372>; go<935>, do<6213> as you have said<1697>, but make<6213> me a little<6996> bread<5692> cake<5692> from it first<7223> and bring<3318> it out to me, and afterward<314> you may make<6213> one for yourself and for your son<1121>.
"For thus<3541> says<559> the LORD<3068> God<430> of Israel<3478>, 'The bowl<3537> of flour<7058> shall not be exhausted<3615>, nor<3808> shall the jar<6835> of oil<8081> be empty<2637>, until<5704> the day<3117> that the LORD<3068> sends<5414> rain<1653> on the face<6440> of the earth<127>.'"
So she went<1980> and did<6213> according to the word<1697> of Elijah<452>, and she and he and her household<1004> ate<398> for many days<3117>.
The bowl<3537> of flour<7058> was not exhausted<3615> nor<3808> did the jar<6835> of oil<8081> become<2637> empty<2637>, according to the word<1697> of the LORD<3068> which<834> He spoke<1696> through<3027> Elijah<452>.
Now it came<1961> about after<310> these<428> things<1697> that the son<1121> of the woman<802>, the mistress<1172> of the house<1004>, became<2470> sick<2470>; and his sickness<2483> was so<3966> severe<2389> that there was no<3808> breath<5397> left<3498> in him.
So she said<559> to Elijah<452>, "What<4100> do I have to do with you, O man<376> of God<430>? You have come<935> to me to bring<2142> my iniquity<5771> to remembrance<2142> and to put<4191> my son<1121> to death<4191>!"
He said<559> to her, "Give<5414> me your son<1121>." Then he took<3947> him from her bosom<2436> and carried<5927> him up to the upper<5944> room<5944> where<834><8033> he was living<3427>, and laid<7901> him on his own bed<4296>.
He called<7121> to the LORD<3068> and said<559>, "O LORD<3068> my God<430>, have You also<1571> brought<7489> calamity<7489> to the widow<490> with whom<834> I am staying<1481>, by causing her son<1121> to die<4191>?"
Then he stretched<4058> himself upon the child<3206> three<7969> times<6471>, and called<7121> to the LORD<3068> and said<559>, "O LORD<3068> my God<430>, I pray<4994> You, let this<2088> child's<3206> life<5315> return<7725> to him."
The LORD<3068> heard<8085> the voice<6963> of Elijah<452>, and the life<5315> of the child<3206> returned<7725> to him and he revived<2421>.
Elijah<452> took<3947> the child<3206> and brought<3381> him down<3381> from the upper<5944> room<5944> into the house<1004> and gave<5414> him to his mother<517>; and Elijah<452> said<559>, "See<7200>, your son<1121> is alive<2416>."
Then the woman<802> said<559> to Elijah<452>, "Now<6258> I know<3045> that you are a man<376> of God<430> and that the word<1697> of the LORD<3068> in your mouth<6310> is truth<571>."
