Now Nadab<5070> and Abihu<30>, the sons<1121> of Aaron<175>, took<3947> their respective<376> firepans<4289>, and after putting<5414> fire<784> in them, placed<7760> incense<7004> on it and offered<7126> strange<2114> fire<784> before<6440> the LORD<3068>, which<834> He had not commanded<6680> them.
And fire<784> came<3318> out from the presence<6440> of the LORD<3068> and consumed<398> them, and they died<4191> before<6440> the LORD<3068>.
Then Moses<4872> said<559> to Aaron<175>, "It is what<834> the LORD<3068> spoke<1696>, saying<559>, 'By those who come<7126> near<7138> Me I will be treated<6942> as holy<6942>, And before<5921><6440> all<3605> the people<5971> I will be honored<3513>.'" So Aaron<175>, therefore, kept<1826> silent<1826>.
Moses<4872> called<7121> also to Mishael<4332> and Elzaphan<469>, the sons<1121> of Aaron's<175> uncle<1730> Uzziel<5816>, and said<559> to them, "Come<7126> forward<7126>, carry<5375> your relatives<251> away<5375> from the front<6440> of the sanctuary<6944> to the outside<4480><2351> of the camp<4264>."
So they came<7126> forward<7126> and carried<5375> them still in their tunics<3801> to the outside<4480><2351> of the camp<4264>, as Moses<4872> had said<1696>.
Then Moses<4872> said<559> to Aaron<175> and to his sons<1121> Eleazar<499> and Ithamar<385>, "Do not uncover<6544> your heads<7218> nor<3808> tear<6533> your clothes<899>, so that you will not die<4191> and that He will not become<7107> wrathful<7107> against<5921> all<3605> the congregation<5712>. But your kinsmen<251>, the whole<3605> house<1004> of Israel<3478>, shall bewail<1058> the burning<8316> which<834> the LORD<3068> has brought<8313> about.
"You shall not even go<3318> out from the doorway<6607> of the tent<168> of meeting<4150>, or<6435> you will die<4191>; for the LORD'S<3068> anointing<4888> oil<8081> is upon you." So they did<6213> according to the word<1697> of Moses<4872>.
The LORD<3068> then spoke<1696> to Aaron<175>, saying<559>,
"Do not drink<7941> wine<3196> or strong<7941> drink<8354>, neither you nor<408> your sons<1121> with you, when you come<935> into the tent<168> of meeting<4150>, so that you will not die<4191>--it is a perpetual<5769> statute<2708> throughout your generations<1755>--
and so as to make<914> a distinction<914> between<996> the holy<6944> and the profane<2455>, and between<996> the unclean<2931> and the clean<2889>,
and so as to teach<3384> the sons<1121> of Israel<3478> all<3605> the statutes<2706> which<834> the LORD<3068> has spoken<1696> to them through<3027> Moses<4872>."
Then Moses<4872> spoke<1696> to Aaron<175>, and to his surviving<3498> sons<1121>, Eleazar<499> and Ithamar<385>, "Take<3947> the grain offering<4503> that is left<3498> over<3498> from the LORD'S<3068> offerings<801> by fire<801> and eat<398> it unleavened<4682> beside<681> the altar<4196>, for it is most<6944> holy<6944>.
"You shall eat<398> it, moreover, in a holy<6918> place<4725>, because<3588> it is your due<2706> and your sons'<1121> due<2706> out of the LORD'S<3068> offerings<801> by fire<801>; for thus<3651> I have been commanded<6680>.
"The breast<2373> of the wave<8573> offering<8573>, however, and the thigh<7785> of the offering<8641> you may eat<398> in a clean<2889> place<4725>, you and your sons<1121> and your daughters<1323> with you; for they have been given<5414> as your due<2706> and your sons'<1121> due<2706> out of the sacrifices<2077> of the peace<8002> offerings<8002> of the sons<1121> of Israel<3478>.
"The thigh<7785> offered<8641> by lifting<8641> up and the breast<2373> offered<8573> by waving<8573> they shall bring<935> along<5921> with the offerings<801> by fire<801> of the portions<2459> of fat<2459>, to present<5130> as a wave<8573> offering<8573> before<6440> the LORD<3068>; so it shall be a thing<2706> perpetually<5769> due<2706> you and your sons<1121> with you, just<3512> as the LORD<3068> has commanded<6680>."
But Moses<4872> searched<1875> carefully<1875> for the goat<5795> of the sin<2403> offering<2403>, and behold<2009>, it had been burned<8313> up! So he was angry<7107> with Aaron's<175> surviving<3498> sons<1121> Eleazar<499> and Ithamar<385>, saying<559>,
"Why<4069> did you not eat<398> the sin<2403> offering<2403> at the holy<6944> place<4725>? For it is most<6944> holy<6944>, and He gave<5414> it to you to bear<5375> away the guilt<5771> of the congregation<5712>, to make<3722> atonement<3722> for them before<6440> the LORD<3068>.
"Behold<2005>, since its blood<1818> had not been brought<935> inside<6441>, into the sanctuary<6944>, you should certainly<398> have eaten<398> it in the sanctuary<6944>, just<3512> as I commanded<6680>."
But Aaron<175> spoke<1696> to Moses<4872>, "Behold<2005>, this very day<3117> they presented<7126> their sin<2403> offering<2403> and their burnt<5930> offering<5930> before<6440> the LORD<3068>. When things like these<428> happened<7122> to me, if I had eaten<398> a sin<2403> offering<2403> today<3117>, would it have been good<3190> in the sight<5869> of the LORD<3068>?"
When Moses<4872> heard<8085> that, it seemed<3190> good<3190> in his sight<5869>.
