But as soon as Jeremiah<3414>, whom<834> the LORD<3068> their God<430> had sent<7971>, had finished<3615> telling<1696> all<3605> the people<5971> all<3605> the words<1697> of the LORD<3068> their God<430>--that is, all<3605> these<428> words<1697>--
Azariah<5838> the son<1121> of Hoshaiah<1955>, and Johanan<3076> the son<1121> of Kareah<7143>, and all<3605> the arrogant<2086> men<376> said<559> to Jeremiah<3414>, "You are telling<1696> a lie<8267>! The LORD<3068> our God<430> has not sent<7971> you to say<559>, 'You are not to enter<935> Egypt<4714> to reside<1481> there<8033>';
but Baruch<1263> the son<1121> of Neriah<5374> is inciting<5496> you against us to give<5414> us over into the hand<3027> of the Chaldeans<3778>, so they will put<4191> us to death<4191> or exile<1540> us to Babylon<894>."
So Johanan<3076> the son<1121> of Kareah<7143> and all<3605> the commanders<8269> of the forces<2428>, and all<3605> the people<5971>, did not obey<8085> the voice<6963> of the LORD<3068> to stay<3427> in the land<776> of Judah<3063>.
But Johanan<3076> the son<1121> of Kareah<7143> and all<3605> the commanders<8269> of the forces<2428> took<3947> the entire<3605> remnant<7611> of Judah<3063> who<834> had returned<7725> from all<3605> the nations<1471> to which<834> they had been driven<5080> away<5080>, in order to reside<1481> in the land<776> of Judah<3063>--
the men<1397>, the women<802>, the children<2945>, the king's<4428> daughters<1323> and every<3605> person<5315> that Nebuzaradan<5018> the captain<7227> of the bodyguard<2876> had left<5117> with Gedaliah<1436> the son<1121> of Ahikam<296> and grandson<1121> of Shaphan<8227>, together with Jeremiah<3414> the prophet<5030> and Baruch<1263> the son<1121> of Neriah<5374>--
and they entered<935> the land<776> of Egypt<4714> (for they did not obey<8085> the voice<6963> of the LORD<3068>) and went<935> in as far<5704> as Tahpanhes<8471>.
Then the word<1697> of the LORD<3068> came<1961> to Jeremiah<3414> in Tahpanhes<8471>, saying<559>,
"Take<3947> some large<1419> stones<68> in your hands<3027> and hide<2934> them in the mortar<4423> in the brick<4404> terrace which<834> is at the entrance<6607> of Pharaoh's<6547> palace<1004> in Tahpanhes<8471>, in the sight<5869> of some<376> of the Jews<3064>;
and say<559> to them, 'Thus<3541> says<559> the LORD<3068> of hosts<6635>, the God<430> of Israel<3478>, "Behold<2009>, I am going to send<7971> and get<3947> Nebuchadnezzar<5019> the king<4428> of Babylon<894>, My servant<5650>, and I am going to set<7760> his throne<3678> right over<4605> these<428> stones<68> that I have hidden<2934>; and he will spread<5186> his canopy<8237> over<5921> them.
"He will also come<935> and strike<5221> the land<776> of Egypt<4714>; those who<834> are meant for death<4194> will be given over to death<4194>, and those for captivity<7628> to captivity<7628>, and those for the sword<2719> to the sword<2719>.
"And I shall set<3341> fire<784> to the temples<1004> of the gods<430> of Egypt<4714>, and he will burn<8313> them and take<7617> them captive<7617>. So he will wrap<5844> himself<5844> with the land<776> of Egypt<4714> as a shepherd<7462> wraps<5844> himself<5844> with his garment<899>, and he will depart<3318> from there<8033> safely<7965>.
"He will also shatter<7665> the obelisks<4676> of Heliopolis<1053>, which<834> is in the land<776> of Egypt<4714>; and the temples<1004> of the gods<430> of Egypt<4714> he will burn<8313> with fire<784>."'"
