"Woe<1945> to the rebellious<5637> children<1121>," declares<5002> the LORD<3068>, "Who execute<6213> a plan<6098>, but not Mine<4480>, And make<5259> an alliance<4541>, but not of My Spirit<7307>, In order<4616> to add<5595> sin<2403> to sin<2403>;
Who proceed<1980> down<3381> to Egypt<4714> Without<3808> consulting<7592> Me, To take<5756> refuge<5756> in the safety<4581> of Pharaoh<6547> And to seek<2620> shelter<2620> in the shadow<6738> of Egypt<4714>!
"Therefore the safety<4581> of Pharaoh<6547> will be your shame<1322> And the shelter<2622> in the shadow<6738> of Egypt<4714>, your humiliation<3639>.
"For their princes<8269> are at Zoan<6814> And their ambassadors<4397> arrive<5060> at Hanes<2609>.
"Everyone<3605> will be ashamed<954> because<5921> of a people<5971> who cannot<3808> profit<3276> them, Who are not for help<5828> or profit<3276>, but for shame<1322> and also<1571> for reproach<2781>."
The oracle<4853> concerning the beasts<929> of the Negev<5045>. Through a land<776> of distress<6869> and anguish<6695>, From where<1992> come lioness<3833> and lion<3918>, viper<660> and flying<5774> serpent<8314>, They carry<5375> their riches<2428> on the backs<3802> of young<5895> donkeys<5895> And their treasures<214> on camels'<1581> humps<1707>, To a people<5971> who cannot<3808> profit<3276> them;
Even Egypt<4714>, whose help<5826> is vain<1892> and empty<7385>. Therefore<3651>, I have called<7121> her "Rahab<7294> who<1992> has been exterminated<7674>."
Now<6258> go<935>, write<3789> it on a tablet<3871> before<854> them And inscribe<2710> it on a scroll<5612>, That it may serve<1961> in the time<3117> to come<314> As a witness forever<5704><5769>.
For this<1931> is a rebellious<4805> people<5971>, false<3586> sons<1121>, Sons<1121> who refuse<3808><14> to listen<8085> To the instruction<8451> of the LORD<3068>;
Who<834> say<559> to the seers<7203>, "You must not see<7200> visions"; And to the prophets<2374>, "You must not prophesy<2372> to us what<5228> is right<5228>, Speak<1696> to us pleasant<2513> words<2513>, Prophesy<2372> illusions<4123>.
"Get<5493> out of the way<1870>, turn<5186> aside<5186> from the path<734>, Let us hear<7673> no<7673><4480> more<7673> about the Holy<6918> One<6918> of Israel<3478>."
Therefore<3651> thus<3541> says<559> the Holy<6918> One<6918> of Israel<3478>, "Since<3282> you have rejected<3988> this<2088> word<1697> And have put<982> your trust<982> in oppression<6233> and guile<3868>, and have relied<8172> on them,
Therefore<3651> this<2088> iniquity<5771> will be to you Like a breach<6556> about to fall<5307>, A bulge<1158> in a high<7682> wall<2346>, Whose<834> collapse<7667> comes<935> suddenly<6597> in an instant<6621>,
Whose collapse<7665> is like the smashing<7667> of a potter's<3335> jar<5035>, So ruthlessly<3808><2550> shattered<3807> That a sherd<2789> will not be found<4672> among its pieces<4386> To take<2846> fire<784> from a hearth<3344> Or to scoop<2834> water<4325> from a cistern<1360>."
For thus<3541> the Lord<136> GOD<3068>, the Holy<6918> One<6918> of Israel<3478>, has said<559>, "In repentance<7729> and rest<5183> you will be saved<3467>, In quietness<8252> and trust<985> is your strength<1369>." But you were not willing<14>,
And you said<559>, "No<3808>, for we will flee<5127> on horses<5483>," Therefore<5921><3651> you shall flee<5127>! "And we will ride<7392> on swift<7031> horses," Therefore<5921><3651> those who pursue<7291> you shall be swift<7043>.
One<259> thousand<505> will flee at the threat<1606> of one<259> man; You will flee<5127> at the threat<1606> of five<2568>, Until<5704><518> you are left<3498> as a flag<8650> on a mountain<2022> top<7218> And as a signal<5251> on a hill<1389>.
Therefore<3651> the LORD<3068> longs<2442> to be gracious<2603> to you, And therefore<3651> He waits<2442> on high<7311> to have<7355> compassion<7355> on you. For the LORD<3068> is a God<430> of justice<4941>; How blessed<835> are all<3605> those who long<2442> for Him.
O people<5971> in Zion<6726>, inhabitant<3427> in Jerusalem<3389>, you will weep<1058> no<3808> longer<1058>. He will surely<2603> be gracious<2603> to you at the sound<6963> of your cry<2199>; when He hears<8085> it, He will answer<6030> you.
Although the Lord<136> has given<5414> you bread<3899> of privation<6862> and water<4325> of oppression<3906>, He, your Teacher<4175> will no<3808> longer<5750> hide<3670> Himself, but your eyes<5869> will behold<7200> your Teacher<4175>.
Your ears<241> will hear<8085> a word<1697> behind<4480><310> you, "This<2088> is the way<1870>, walk<1980> in it," whenever<3588> you turn<3231> to the right<3231> or to the left<8041>.
And you will defile<2930> your graven<6456> images<6456> overlaid<6826> with silver<3701>, and your molten<4541> images<4541> plated<642> with gold<2091>. You will scatter<2219> them as an impure<1739> thing<1739>, and say<559> to them, "Be gone<3318>!"
Then He will give<5414> you rain<4306> for the seed<2233> which<834> you will sow<2232> in the ground<127>, and bread<3899> from the yield<8393> of the ground<127>, and it will be rich<1879> and plenteous<8082>; on that day<3117> your livestock<4735> will graze<7462> in a roomy<7337> pasture<3733>.
Also the oxen<504> and the donkeys<5895> which work<5647> the ground<127> will eat<398> salted<2548> fodder<1098>, which<834> has been winnowed<2219> with shovel<7371> and fork<4214>.
On every<3605> lofty<1364> mountain<2022> and on every<3605> high<5375> hill<1389> there will be streams<6388> running<2988> with water<4325> on the day<3117> of the great<7227> slaughter<2027>, when the towers<4026> fall<5307>.
The light<216> of the moon<3842> will be as the light<216> of the sun<2535>, and the light<216> of the sun<2535> will be seven<7659> times<7659> brighter, like the light<216> of seven<7651> days<3117>, on the day<3117> the LORD<3068> binds<2280> up the fracture<7667> of His people<5971> and heals<7495> the bruise<4273> He has inflicted<4347>.
Behold<2009>, the name<8034> of the LORD<3068> comes<935> from a remote<4801> place<4801>; Burning<1197> is His anger<639> and dense<3514> is His smoke<4858>; His lips<8193> are filled<4390> with indignation<2195> And His tongue<3956> is like a consuming<398> fire<784>;
His breath<7307> is like an overflowing<7857> torrent<5158>, Which reaches<2673> to the neck<6677>, To shake<5130> the nations<1471> back<5130> and forth<1234> in a sieve<5299>, And to put in the jaws<3895> of the peoples<5971> the bridle<7448> which leads<8582> to ruin<8582>.
You will have<1961> songs<7892> as in the night<3915> when you keep<6942> the festival<2282>, And gladness<8057> of heart<3824> as when one marches<1980> to the sound of the flute<2485>, To go<935> to the mountain<2022> of the LORD<3068>, to the Rock<6697> of Israel<3478>.
And the LORD<3068> will cause His voice<6963> of authority<1935> to be heard<8085>, And the descending<5183> of His arm<2220> to be seen<7200> in fierce<2197> anger<639>, And in the flame<3851> of a consuming<398> fire<784> In cloudburst<5311>, downpour<2230> and hailstones.
For at the voice<6963> of the LORD<3068> Assyria<804> will be terrified<2865>, When He strikes<5221> with the rod<7626>.
And every<3605> blow<4569> of the rod<4294> of punishment<4145>, Which<834> the LORD<3068> will lay<5117> on him, Will be with the music of tambourines<8596> and lyres<3658>; And in battles<4421>, brandishing<8573> weapons<8573>, He will fight<3898> them.
For Topheth<8613> has long<865> been ready<6186>, Indeed<1571>, it has been prepared<3559> for the king<4428>. He has made<6009> it deep<6009> and large<7337>, A pyre<4071> of fire<784> with plenty<7235> of wood<6086>; The breath<5397> of the LORD<3068>, like a torrent<5158> of brimstone<1614>, sets<1197> it afire<1197>.
