4(Now <061> David <01732> had brought up <05927> the ark <0727> of God <0430> from Kiriath Jearim <07157> to the place he <01732> had prepared <03559> for it, for <03588> he <01732> had pitched <05186> a tent <0168> for it in Jerusalem <03389>.

6Solomon <08010> went up <05927> to <05921> the bronze <05178> altar <04196> before <06440> the Lord <03068> which <0834> was at the meeting <04150> tent <0168>, and he offered up <05927> a thousand <0505> burnt sacrifices <05930>.
7That <01931> night <03915> God <0430> appeared <07200> to Solomon <08010> and said <0559> to him, “Tell <07592> me what <04100> I should give <05414> you.”
8Solomon <08010> replied <0559> to God <0430>, “You <0859> demonstrated <06213> great <01419> loyalty <02617> to <05973> my father <01> David <01732> and have made <04427> me king <04427> in his place <08478>.
9Now <06258>, Lord <03069> God <0430>, may your promise <01697> to <05973> my father <01> David <01732> be realized <0539>, for <03588> you <0859> have made me king <04427> over <05921> a great nation <05971> as numerous <07227> as the dust <06083> of the earth <0776>.
10Now <06258> give <05414> me wisdom <02451> and discernment <04093> so I can effectively lead <0935> this <02088> nation <05971>. Otherwise <03588> no one <04310> is able to make judicial decisions <08199> for this <02088> great <01419> nation <05971> of yours.”
11God <0430> said <0559> to Solomon <08010>, “Because <03282> you desire <03824> this <02063>, and did not <03808> ask <07592> for riches <06239>, wealth <05233>, and honor <03519>, or for vengeance on your enemies <08130> <05315>, and <01571> because you did not <03808> ask <07592> for long <07227> life <03117>, but requested <07592> wisdom <02451> and discernment <04093> so <0834> you can make judicial <08199> decisions for my people <05971> over <05921> whom <0834> I have made <04427> you king <04427>,
12you are granted <05414> wisdom <02451> and discernment <04093>. Furthermore I am giving <05414> you riches <06239>, wealth <05233>, and honor <03519> surpassing that <03651> <0834> of any king <04428> before <06440> or after <0310> you.”
13Solomon <08010> left <0935> the meeting <04150> tent <0168> at the worship center <01116> in Gibeon <01391> and went to Jerusalem <03389>, where <0834> he reigned <04427> over <05921> Israel <03478>.
14Solomon <08010> accumulated <0622> chariots <07393> and horses <06571>. He had <01961> 1,400 <03967> <0702> <0505> chariots <07393> and 12,000 <0505> <06240> <08147> horses <06571>. He kept <03240> them in assigned cities <05892> and in <05973> Jerusalem <03389>.
15The king <04428> made <05414> silver <03701> and gold <02091> as plentiful in Jerusalem <03389> as stones <068>; cedar <0730> was <05414> as plentiful <07230> as sycamore fig trees <08256> are in the lowlands <08219>.
16Solomon <08010> acquired <04161> his horses <05483> from Egypt <04714> and from Que <04723>; the king’s <04428> traders <05503> purchased <04242> <03947> them from Que <04723>.
17They paid <03318> <05927> 600 <03967> <08337> silver pieces <03701> for each chariot <04818> from Egypt <04714>, and 150 <03967> <02572> silver pieces for each horse <05483>. They also <03651> sold <03318> <03027> chariots and horses to all <03605> the kings <04428> of the Hittites <02850> and to the kings <04428> of Syria <0758>.
