In his anger <05678> he tore down <02040> the fortified <04013> cities of Daughter <01323> Judah <03063>. He knocked <05060> to the ground <0776> and humiliated <02490> the kingdom <04467> and its rulers <08269>.
3ג(Gimel) In fierce <02750> anger <0639> he destroyed <01438> the whole <03605> army <07161> of Israel <03478>. He withdrew <0268> <07725> his right hand <03225> as the enemy <0341> attacked <06440>. He was like a raging <03852> fire <0784> in the land of Jacob <03290>; it consumed <0398> everything around <05439> it.
4ד(Dalet) He prepared <01869> his bow <07198> like an enemy <0341>; his right hand <03225> was ready to shoot <05324>. Like a foe <06862> he killed <02026> everyone <03605>, even our strong young men <05869> <04261>; he has poured out <08210> his anger <02534> like fire <0784> on the tent <0168> of Daughter <01323> Zion <06726>.
5ה(He) The Lord <0136>, like an enemy <0341>, destroyed <01104> Israel <03478>. He destroyed <01104> all <03605> her palaces <0759>; he ruined <07843> her fortified <04013> cities. He made everyone <07235> in Daughter <01323> Judah <03063> mourn <08386> and lament <0592>.
6ו(Vav) He destroyed <02554> his temple <07900> as if it were a vineyard <01588>; he destroyed <07843> his appointed meeting place <04150>. The Lord <03068> has made those in Zion <06726> forget <07911> both the festivals <04150> and the Sabbaths <07676>. He made the ramparts <02426> and fortified walls <02346> lament <056>; together <03162> they mourned <0535> their ruin.
9ט(Tet) Her city gates <08179> have fallen <02883> to the ground <0776>; he smashed <06> to bits the bars <01280> that lock her gates. Her king <04428> and princes <08269> were taken into exile <01471>; there is no <0369> more guidance <08451> available. 10י(Yod) The elders <02205> of Daughter <01323> Zion <06726> sit <03427> on the ground <0776> in silence <01826>. They have thrown <05927> dirt <06083> on <05921> their heads <07218>; They have dressed <02296> in sackcloth <08242>. Jerusalem’s <03389> young women <01330> stare down <07218> <03381> at the ground <0776>.
11כ(Kaf) My eyes <05869> are worn out <03615> from weeping <01832>; my stomach <04578> is in knots <02560>. My heart <03516> is poured out <08210> on <05921> the ground <0776> due to the destruction <07667> of my helpless <01323> people <05971>; children <05768> and infants <03243> faint <05848> in the town <07151> squares <07339>.
12ל(Lamed) Children say <0559> to their mothers <0517>, “Where <0346> are food <01715> and drink <03196>?” They faint <05848> like a wounded <02491> warrior in the city <05892> squares <07339>. They die slowly in <0413> their mothers <0517>’ arms <02436>.
13מ(Mem <05749>) With what <04100> can I equate you? To what <04100> can I compare <01819> you, O Daughter <01323> Jerusalem <03389>? To what <04100> can I liken <07737> you so that I might comfort <05162> you, O Virgin <01330> Daughter <01323> Zion <06726>? Your wound <07667> is as deep <01419> as the sea <03220>. Who <04310> can heal <07495> you?
14נ(Nun) Your prophets <05030> saw <02372> visions for you that were worthless <07723> lies <08602>. They failed <03808> to expose <01540> your sin <05771> so as to restore <07725> your fortunes <07622>. They saw <02372> oracles <04065> for you that were worthless <07723> lies <04864>.
15ס(Samek) All <03605> who passed by <05674> on <05921> the road <01870> clapped <05606> their hands <03709> to mock you. They sneered <08319> and shook <05128> their heads <07218> at <05921> Daughter <01323> Jerusalem <03389>. “Ha! Is this <02063> the city <05892> they called <0559> ‘The perfection <03632> of beauty <03308>, the source of joy <04885> of the whole <03605> earth <0776>!’?”
16פ(Pe) All <03605> your enemies <0341> gloated <06475> over <05921> you. They sneered <08319> and gnashed <02786> their teeth <08127>; they said <0559>, “We have destroyed <01104> her! Ha! We have waited <06960> a long time for this <02088> day <03117>. We have lived <04672> to see <07200> it!”
17ע(Ayin) The Lord <03068> has <0834> done <06213> what he planned <02161>; he has fulfilled <01214> his promise <0565> that <0834> he threatened <06680> long <03117> ago <06924>: He has overthrown <02040> you without <03808> mercy <02550> and has enabled the enemy <0341> to gloat <08055> over <05921> you; he has exalted <07311> your adversaries <06862>’ power <07161>.
18צ(Tsade) Cry out <06817> from your heart <03820> to <0413> the Lord <0136>, O wall <02346> of Daughter <01323> Zion <06726>! Make your tears <01832> flow <03381> like a river <05158> all day <03119> and all night <03915> long! Do not <0408> rest <06314>; do not <0408> let your tears <05869> <01323> stop <01826>!

You <02719> killed them <02026> when you <03117> were angry; you <0639> slaughtered them <02873> without mercy <03808> <02550>.
22ת(Tav) As if it were a feast <04150> day <03117>, you call <07121> enemies to terrify <04032> me on every side <05439>. On the day <03117> of the Lord’s <03068> anger <0639> no <03808> one escaped <06412> or survived <08300>. My enemy <0341> has finished off <03615> those healthy infants whom <0834> I bore <02946> and raised <07235>.
