 <<  Yehezkiel 3 >>

He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, eat <0398> what <0834> you see <04672> in front of you– eat this <02063> scroll <04039>– and then go <01980> and speak <01696> to <0413> the house <01004> of Israel <03478>.”

So I opened <06605> my mouth <06310> and he fed <0398> me the scroll <04039>.

He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, feed <0398> your stomach <04578> and fill <04390> your belly <0990> with <0854> this <02063> scroll <04039> I <0589> am giving <05414> to <0413> you.” So I ate <0398> it, and it was <01961> sweet <04966> like honey <01706> in my mouth <06310>.

He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, go <01980> to <0413> the house <01004> of Israel <03478> and speak <01696> my words <01697> to <0413> them.

For <03588> you <0859> are not <03808> being sent <07971> to <0413> a people <05971> of unintelligible <06012> speech <08193> and difficult <03515> language <03956>, but to <0413> the house <01004> of Israel <03478>–

not <03808> to <0413> many <07227> peoples <05971> of unintelligible <06012> speech <08193> and difficult <03515> language <03956>, whose <0834> words <01697> you cannot <03808> understand <08085>– surely if <0518> I had sent <07971> you to <0413> them, they <01992> would listen <08085> to <0413> you!

But the house <01004> of Israel <03478> is unwilling <014> <03808> to listen <08085> to <0413> you, because <03588> they <01992> are not <0369> willing <014> to listen <08085> to <0413> me, for <03588> the whole <03605> house <01004> of Israel <03478> is hard-headed <04696> <02389> and hard-hearted <03820> <07186>.

“I have made <05414> your face <06440> adamant <02389> to match <05980> their faces <06440>, and your forehead <04696> hard <02389> to match <05980> their foreheads <04696>.

I have made <05414> your forehead <04696> harder <02389> than flint <06864>– like diamond <08068>! Do not <03808> fear <03372> them or <03808> be terrified <02865> of the looks <06440> they give you, for <03588> they <01992> are a rebellious <04805> house <01004>.”

And he said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, take <03947> all <03605> my words <01697> that <0834> I speak <01696> to <0413> you to heart <03824> and listen carefully <08085> <0241>.

Go <01980> to <0413> the exiles <01473>, to <0413> your fellow countrymen <05971> <01121>, and speak <01696> to <0413> them– say <0559> to <0413> them, ‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>,’ whether <0518> they pay attention <08085> or <0518> not <02308>.”

Then a wind <07307> lifted <05375> me up <05375> and I heard <08085> a great <01419> rumbling <07494> sound <06963> behind <0310> me as the glory <03519> of the Lord <03068> rose <01288> from its place <04725>,

and the sound <06963> of the living <02416> beings’ wings <03671> brushing <05401> against <0413> each <0802> other <0269>, and the sound <06963> of the wheels <0212> alongside <05980> them, a great <01419> rumbling <07494> sound <06963>.

A wind <07307> lifted <05375> me up <05375> and carried <03947> me away <03947>. I went <01980> bitterly <04751>, my spirit <07307> full of fury <02534>, and the hand <03027> of the Lord <03068> rested powerfully <02388> on <05921> me.

I came <0935> to <0413> the exiles <01473> at Tel Abib <08512>, who lived <03427> by <0413> the Kebar <03529> River <05104>. I sat <03427> dumbfounded <08074> among <08432> them <01992> there <08033>, where <08033> they were living <03427>, for seven <07651> days <03117>.

At the end <07097> of seven <07651> days <03117> the word <01697> of the Lord <03068> came <01961> to <0413> me:

“Son <01121> of man <0120>, I have appointed <05414> you a watchman <06822> for the house <01004> of Israel <03478>. Whenever you hear <08085> a word <01697> from my mouth <06310>, you must give <02094> them a warning <02094> from <04480> me.

When I say <0559> to the wicked <07563>, “You will certainly die <04191> <04191>,” and you do not <03808> warn <02094> him– you do not <03808> speak out <01696> to warn <02094> the wicked <07563> to turn from his wicked <07563> deed <01870> and wicked lifestyle so that he <01931> may live <02421>– that wicked <07563> person will die <04191> for his iniquity <05771>, but I will hold <01245> you accountable <01245> for his death <01818>.

But as for you <0859>, if <03588> you warn <02094> the wicked <07563> and he does not <03808> turn <07725> from his wicked deed <07562> and from his wicked <07563> lifestyle <01870>, he <01931> will die <04191> for his iniquity <05771> but you <0859> will have saved <05337> your own life <05315>.

“When a righteous <06662> person turns <07725> from his righteousness <06664> and commits <06213> iniquity <05766>, and I set <05414> an obstacle <04383> before <06440> him <01931>, he will die <04191>. If <03588> you have not <03808> warned <02094> him, he will die <04191> for his sin <02403>. The righteous <06666> deeds he performed <06213> will not <03808> be considered <02142>, but I will hold <01245> you accountable <01245> for his death <01818>.

However, if <03588> you <0859> warn <02094> the righteous <06662> person not <01115> to sin <02398>, and he <01931> does not <03808> sin <02398>, he will certainly live <02421> <02421> because <03588> he was warned <02094>, and you <0859> will have saved <05337> your own life <05315>.”

The hand <03027> of the Lord <03068> rested <01961> on <05921> me there <08033>, and he said <0559> to <0413> me, “Get up <06965>, go out <03318> to <0413> the valley <01237>, and I will speak <01696> with <0854> you there <08033>.”

So I got up <06965> and went out <03318> to <0413> the valley <01237>, and the glory <03519> of the Lord <03068> was standing <05975> there <08033>, just like the glory <03519> I had seen <07200> by <05921> the Kebar <03529> River <05104>, and I threw <05307> myself face <06440> down <05307>.

Then a wind <07307> came <0935> into me and stood <05975> me on <05921> my feet <07272>. The Lord spoke <01696> to <0854> me and said <0559>, “Go <0935> shut <05462> yourself in <08432> your house <01004>.

As for you <0859>, son <01121> of man <0120>, they will put <05414> ropes <05688> on <05921> you and tie <0631> you up <0631> with them, so you cannot <03808> go out <03318> among <08432> them.

I will make your tongue <03956> stick <01692> to <0413> the roof of your mouth <02441> so that you will be <01961> silent <0481> and unable <03808> to reprove <03198> them, for <03588> they <01992> are a rebellious <04805> house <01004>.

But when I speak <01696> with <0854> you, I will loosen <06605> your tongue <06310> and you must say <0559> to <0413> them, ‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03068> says <0559>.’ Those who listen <08085> will listen <08085>, but the indifferent <02310> will refuse <02308>, for <03588> they <01992> are a rebellious <04805> house <01004>.
