Dual Panel1In the sixth <08345> year <08141>, in the sixth <08345> month, on the fifth <02568> of the month <02320>, as I <0589> was sitting <03427> in my house <01004> with the elders <02205> of Judah <03063> sitting <03427> in front <06440> of me, the hand <03027> of the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> seized <05307> me.
2As I watched <07200>, I noticed <02009> a form <01823> that appeared <04758> <04758> to be a man <0784>. From his waist <04975> downward <04295> was something like fire <0784>, and from his waist <04975> upward <04605> something like <04758> a brightness <02096>, like an amber glow <02830>.
3He stretched out <07971> the form <08403> of a hand <03027> and grabbed <03947> me by a lock <06734> of hair on my head <07218>. Then a wind <07307> lifted <05375> me up <05375> between <0996> the earth <0776> and sky <08064> and brought <0935> me to <0413> Jerusalem <03389> by means of divine <0430> visions <04759>, to the door <06607> of the inner <06442> gate <08179> which faces <06437> north <06828> where <0834> the statue <05566> which provokes <07069> to jealousy <07068> was located <04186>.
4Then I perceived <02009> that the glory <03519> of the God <0430> of Israel <03478> was there <08033>, as <0834> in the vision <04758> I had seen <07200> earlier in the valley <01237>.
5He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, look up <05375> toward <01870> the north <06828>.” So I looked up <05375> toward <01870> the north <06828>, and I noticed <02009> to the north <06828> of the altar <04196> gate <08179> was this <02088> statue <05566> of jealousy <07068> at the entrance <0872>.
6He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, do you <0859> see <07200> what they <01992> are doing <06213>– the great <01419> abominations <08441> that <0834> the people <01004> of Israel <03478> are practicing <06213> here <06311>, to drive <07368> me far <07368> from <05921> my sanctuary <04720>? But you will see <07200> greater <01419> abominations <08441> than these!”
7He brought <0935> me to <0413> the entrance <06607> of the court <02691>, and as I watched <07200>, I noticed <0259> <02009> a hole <02356> in the wall <07023>.
8He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Son <01121> of man <0120>, dig <02864> into the wall <07023>.” So I dug <02864> into the wall <07023> and discovered <02009> a <0259> doorway <06607>.
9He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Go <0935> in and see <07200> the evil <07451> abominations <08441> they <01992> are practicing <06213> here <06311>.”
10So I went <0935> in and looked <07200>. I noticed <02009> every <03605> figure <08403> of creeping thing <07431> and beast <0929>– detestable <08263> images– and every <03605> idol <01544> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478>, engraved <02707> on <05921> the wall <07023> all <05439> around <05439>.
11Seventy <07657> men <0376> from the elders <02205> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478> (with Jaazaniah <02970> son <01121> of Shaphan <08227> standing <05975> among <08432> them) were standing <05975> in front of <06440> them, each <0376> with a censer <04730> in his hand <03027>, and fragrant vapors <06282> from a cloud <06051> of incense <07004> were swirling upward <05927>.
12He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Do you see <07200>, son <01121> of man <0120>, what <0834> the elders <02205> of the house <01004> of Israel <03478> are doing <06213> in the dark <02822>, each <0376> in the chamber <02315> of his idolatrous images <04906>? For <03588> they think <0559>, ‘The Lord <03069> does not <0369> see <07200> us! The Lord <03069> has abandoned <05800> the <0853> land <0776>!’”
13He said <0559> to <0413> me, “You will see <07200> them <01992> practicing <06213> even greater <01419> abominations <08441>!”
14Then he brought <0935> me to <0413> the entrance <06607> of the north <06828> gate <08179> of the Lord’s <03068> house <01004>. I noticed <02009> women <0802> sitting <03427> there <08033> weeping <01058> for Tammuz <08542>.
15He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Do you see <07200> this, son <01121> of man <0120>? You will see <07200> even <05750> greater <01419> abominations <08441> than these <0428>!”
16Then he brought <0935> me to <0413> the inner <06442> court <02691> of the Lord’s <03068> house <01004>. Right there <02009> at the entrance <06607> to the Lord’s <03068> temple <01964>, between <0996> the porch <0197> and the altar <04196>, were about twenty-five men <0376> <02568> <06242> with their backs <0268> to <0413> the Lord’s <03068> temple <01964>, facing <06440> east <06924>– they <01992> were worshiping <07812> the sun <08121> toward the east <06924>!
17He said <0559> to <0413> me, “Do you see <07200>, son <01121> of man <0120>? Is it a trivial thing <07043> that the house <01004> of Judah <03063> commits <06213> these abominations <08441> they are practicing <06213> here <06311>? For <03588> they have filled <04390> the land <0776> with violence <02555> and provoked <03707> me to anger <03707> still further <07725>. Look <02005>, they are putting <07971> the branch <02156> to <0413> their nose <0639>!
18Therefore <01571> I <0589> will act <06213> with fury <02534>! My eye will not <03808> pity <02347> them nor <03808> will I spare <02550> them. When they have shouted <01419> <06963> <07121> in my ears <0241>, I will not <03808> listen <08085> to them.”
