Look <02009>, the sovereign <0113> Lord <03068> who commands armies <06635> is about to remove <05493> from Jerusalem <03389> and Judah <03063> every source <04938> <04937> of security <04938> <04937>, including all <03605> the food <03899> and water <04325>,
the mighty <01368> men <0376> and warriors <04421>, judges <08199> and prophets <05030>, omen readers <07080> and leaders <02205>,
captains <08269> of groups of fifty <02572>, the respected <05375> citizens, advisers <03289> and those skilled <02450> in magical arts <02798>, and those who know <0995> incantations <03908>.
The Lord says, “I will make <05414> youths <05288> their officials <08269>; malicious young men <08586> will rule over <04910> them.
The people <05971> will treat <05065> each other <0376> harshly; men <0376> will oppose each other <0376>; neighbors <07453> will fight. Youths <05288> will proudly defy <07292> the elderly <02205> and riffraff <07034> will challenge those who were once respected <03513>.
Indeed <03588>, a man <0376> will grab <08610> his brother <0251> right in his father’s <01> house <01004> and say, ‘You own a coat <08071>– you be <01961> our leader <07101>! This <02063> heap of ruins <04384> will be under <08478> your control <03027>.’
At that time <03117> the brother will shout <05375>, ‘I am <01961> no <03808> doctor <02280>, I have no <0369> food <03899> or coat <08071> in my house <01004>; don’t <03808> make <07760> me a leader <07101> of the people <05971>!’”
Jerusalem <03389> certainly stumbles <03782>, Judah <03063> falls <05307>, for <03588> their words <03956> and their actions <04611> offend the Lord <03068>; they rebel <04784> against <05869> his royal authority <03519>.
The look <01971> on their faces <06440> testifies <06030> to their guilt; like the people of Sodom <05467> they openly <05046> boast of their sin <02403>. Too bad for <03588> them! For they <01992> bring disaster <07451> on themselves.
Tell <0559> the innocent <06662> it will go well <02896> with them, for <03588> they will be rewarded <06529> for what they have done <04611>.
Too bad <0188> for the wicked <07563> sinners <07451>! For <03588> they will get <06213> exactly what they deserve <03027> <01576>.
Oppressors <05065> treat my people <05971> cruelly; creditors <0802> rule over <04910> them. My people’s <05971> leaders <0833> mislead <08582> them; they give you confusing <01104> directions <0734> <01870>.
The Lord <03068> takes <05324> his position to judge <07378>; he stands <05975> up to pass sentence <01777> on his people <05971>.
The Lord <03068> comes <0935> to pronounce judgment <04941> on <05973> the leaders <02205> of his people <05971> and their officials <08269>. He says, “It is you <0859> who have ruined <01197> the vineyard <03754>! You have stashed in your houses <01004> what you have stolen <01500> from the poor <06041>.
Why do you crush <01792> my people <05971> and grind <02912> the faces <06440> of the poor <06041>?” The sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> who commands armies <06635> has spoken <05002>.
The Lord <03069> says <0559>, “The women <01323> of Zion <06726> are proud <01361>. They walk <01980> with their heads high <01627> <05186> and flirt <08265> with their eyes <05869>. They skip along <01980> <01980> and the jewelry <05913> on their ankles <07272> jingles <05913>.
So the sovereign master <0136> will afflict <05596> the foreheads <06936> of Zion’s <06726> women <01323> with skin diseases, the Lord <03068> will make <06168> the front <06596> of their heads <06596> bald <06168>.”
At that <01931> time <03117> the sovereign master <0136> will remove <05493> their beautiful <08597> ankle <05914> jewelry, neck <07636> ornaments <05914>, crescent shaped ornaments <07720>,
earrings <05188>, bracelets <08285>, veils <07479>,
headdresses <06287>, ankle ornaments <06807>, sashes <07196>, sachets <05315> <01004>, amulets <03908>,
rings <02885>, nose <0639> rings <05141>,
festive dresses <04254>, robes <04595>, shawls <04304>, purses <02754>,
garments <05466>, vests <01549>, head coverings <06797>, and gowns <07289>.
A putrid stench <04716> will replace <08478> the smell <01314> of spices <01314>, a rope <05364> will replace <08478> a belt <02290>, baldness <07144> will replace <08478> braided <04639> locks <04748> of hair, a sackcloth <08242> garment <04228> will replace <08478> a fine robe <06614>, and a prisoner’s brand <03587> will replace <08478> beauty <03308>.
Your men <04962> will fall <05307> by the sword <02719>, your strong men <01369> will die in battle <04421>.
Her gates <06607> will mourn <0578> and lament <056>; deprived <05352> of her people, she will sit <03427> on the ground <0776>.
