In the year <08141> of King <04428> Uzziah’s <05818> death <04194>, I saw <07200> the sovereign master <0136> seated <03427> on <05921> a high <07311>, elevated <05375> throne <03678>. The hem of his robe <07757> filled <04390> the temple <01964>.
Seraphs <08314> stood <05975> over <04605> him; each one <0259> had six <08337> <08337> wings <03671> <03671>. With two <08147> wings they covered <03680> their faces <06440>, with two <08147> they covered <03680> their feet <07272>, and they used the remaining two <08147> to fly <05774>.
They called out <07121> to <0413> one <02088> another <02088>, “Holy <06918>, holy <06918>, holy <06918> is the Lord <03068> who commands armies <06635>! His majestic splendor <03519> fills <04393> the entire <03605> earth <0776>!”
The sound <06963> of their voices <07121> shook <05128> the door frames <05592> <0520>, and the temple <01004> was filled <04390> with smoke <06227>.
I said <0559>, “Too bad <0188> for <03588> me! I am <0595> destroyed <01820>, for <03588> my lips <08193> are contaminated <02931> by sin, and I <0595> live <03427> among <08432> people <05971> whose lips <08193> are contaminated <02931> by sin. My eyes <05869> have seen <07200> the king <04428>, the Lord <03068> who commands armies <06635>.”
But then one <0259> of the seraphs <08314> flew <05774> toward <0413> me. In his hand <03027> was a hot coal <07531> he had taken <03947> from the altar <04196> with tongs <04457>.
He touched <05060> my mouth <06310> with <05921> it and said <0559>, “Look <02009>, this <02088> coal has touched <05060> your lips <08193>. Your evil <05771> is removed <05493>; your sin <02403> is forgiven <03722>.”
I heard <08085> the voice <06963> of the sovereign <0136> master say <0559>, “Whom <04310> will I send <07971>? Who <04310> will go <01980> on our behalf?” I answered <0559>, “Here <02005> I am, send <07971> me!”
He said <0559>, “Go <01980> and tell <0559> these <02088> people <05971>: ‘Listen continually <08085> <08085>, but don’t <0408> understand <0995>! Look continually <07200> <07200>, but don’t <0408> perceive <03045>!’
Make <08080> the hearts <03820> of these <02088> people <05971> calloused <08080>; make <03513> their ears <0241> deaf <03513> and their eyes <05869> blind <08173>! Otherwise <06435> they might see <07200> with their eyes <05869> and hear <08085> with their ears <0241>, their hearts <03824> might understand <0995> and they might repent <07725> and be healed <07495>.”
I replied <0559>, “How <05704> long <04970>, sovereign master <0136>?” He said <0559>, “Until <05704> cities <05892> are in ruins <07582> and unpopulated <03427> <0369>, and houses <01004> are uninhabited <0120> <0369>, and the land <0127> is ruined <07582> and devastated <08077>,
and the Lord <03069> has sent <07368> the people <0120> off <07368> to a distant <07227> place, and the very heart <07130> of the land <0776> is completely abandoned <05805>.
Even <05750> if only a tenth <06224> of the people remain in the land, it will again <07725> be destroyed <01197>, like one of the large sacred trees <0437> <0424> or an Asherah pole, when a sacred pillar <04678> on a high place <06944> is thrown down <07995>. That sacred pillar <04678> symbolizes the special chosen family <02233>.”
