Now in the eighteenth<8083><6240> year<8141> of King<4428> Jeroboam<3379>, the son<1121> of Nebat<5028>, Abijam<38> became<4427> king<4427> over<5921> Judah<3063>.
He reigned<4427> three<7969> years<8141> in Jerusalem<3389>; and his mother's<517> name<8034> was Maacah<4601> the daughter<1323> of Abishalom<53>.
He walked<1980> in all<3605> the sins<2403> of his father<1> which<834> he had committed<6213> before<6440> him; and his heart<3824> was not wholly<8003> devoted<8003> to the LORD<3068> his God<430>, like the heart<3824> of his father<1> David<1732>.
But for David's<1732> sake<4616> the LORD<3068> his God<430> gave<5414> him a lamp<5215> in Jerusalem<3389>, to raise<6965> up his son<1121> after<310> him and to establish<5975> Jerusalem<3389>;
because<834> David<1732> did<6213> what<3477> was right<3477> in the sight<5869> of the LORD<3068>, and had not turned<5493> aside<5493> from anything<3605> that He commanded<6680> him all<3605> the days<3117> of his life<2425>, except<7534> in the case<1697> of Uriah<223> the Hittite<2850>.
There was war<4421> between<996> Rehoboam<7346> and Jeroboam<3379> all<3605> the days<3117> of his life<2425>.
Now the rest<3499> of the acts<1697> of Abijam<38> and all<3605> that he did<6213>, are they not written<3789> in the Book<5612> of the Chronicles<1697><3117> of the Kings<4428> of Judah<3063>? And there was war<4421> between<996> Abijam<38> and Jeroboam<3379>.
And Abijam<38> slept<7901> with his fathers<1> and they buried<6912> him in the city<5892> of David<1732>; and Asa<609> his son<1121> became<4427> king<4427> in his place<8478>.
So in the twentieth<6242> year<8141> of Jeroboam<3379> the king<4428> of Israel<3478>, Asa<609> began to reign<4427> as king<4428> of Judah<3063>.
He reigned<4427> forty-one<705><259> years<8141> in Jerusalem<3389>; and his mother's<517> name<8034> was Maacah<4601> the daughter<1323> of Abishalom<53>.
Asa<609> did<6213> what<3477> was right<3477> in the sight<5869> of the LORD<3068>, like David<1732> his father<1>.
He also put<5674> away<5674> the male<6945> cult<6945> prostitutes<6945> from the land<776> and removed<5493> all<3605> the idols<1544> which<834> his fathers<1> had made<6213>.
He also<1571> removed<5493> Maacah<4601> his mother<517> from being queen<1377> mother<1377>, because<834> she had made<6213> a horrid<4656> image<4656> as an Asherah<842>; and Asa<609> cut<3772> down<3772> her horrid<4656> image<4656> and burned<8313> it at the brook<5158> Kidron<6939>.
But the high<1116> places<1116> were not taken<5493> away<5493>; nevertheless<7534> the heart<3824> of Asa<609> was wholly<8003> devoted<8003> to the LORD<3068> all<3605> his days<3117>.
He brought<935> into the house<1004> of the LORD<3068> the dedicated<6944> things<6944> of his father<1> and his own dedicated<6944> things<6944>: silver<3701> and gold<2091> and utensils<3627>.
Now there was war<4421> between<996> Asa<609> and Baasha<1201> king<4428> of Israel<3478> all<3605> their days<3117>.
Baasha<1201> king<4428> of Israel<3478> went<5927> up against<5921> Judah<3063> and fortified<1129> Ramah<7414> in order to prevent<1115><5414> anyone from going<3318> out or coming<935> in to Asa<609> king<4428> of Judah<3063>.
Then Asa<609> took<3947> all<3605> the silver<3701> and the gold<2091> which were left<3498> in the treasuries<214> of the house<1004> of the LORD<3068> and the treasuries<214> of the king's<4428> house<1004>, and delivered<5414> them into the hand<3027> of his servants<5650>. And King<4428> Asa<609> sent<7971> them to Ben-hadad<1130> the son<1121> of Tabrimmon<2886>, the son<1121> of Hezion<2383>, king<4428> of Aram<758>, who lived<3427> in Damascus<1834>, saying<559>,
"Let there be a treaty<1285> between<996> you and me, as between<996> my father<1> and your father<1>. Behold<2009>, I have sent<7971> you a present<7810> of silver<3701> and gold<2091>; go<1980>, break<6565> your treaty<1285> with Baasha<1201> king<4428> of Israel<3478> so that he will withdraw<5927> from me."
So Ben-hadad<1130> listened<8085> to King<4428> Asa<609> and sent<7971> the commanders<8269> of his armies<2428> against<5921> the cities<5892> of Israel<3478>, and conquered<5221> Ijon<5859>, Dan<1835>, Abel-beth-maacah<62> and all<3605> Chinneroth<3672>, besides<5921> all<3605> the land<776> of Naphtali<5321>.
When Baasha<1201> heard<8085> of it, he ceased<2308> fortifying<1129> Ramah<7414> and remained<3427> in Tirzah<8656>.
Then King<4428> Asa<609> made<8085> a proclamation<8085> to all<3605> Judah<3063>--none<369> was exempt<5355>--and they carried<5375> away the stones<68> of Ramah<7414> and its timber<6086> with which<834> Baasha<1201> had built<1129>. And King<4428> Asa<609> built<1129> with them Geba<1387> of Benjamin<1144> and Mizpah<4709>.
Now the rest<3499> of all<3605> the acts<1697> of Asa<609> and all<3605> his might<1369> and all<3605> that he did<6213> and the cities<5892> which<834> he built<1129>, are they not written<3789> in the Book<5612> of the Chronicles<1697><3117> of the Kings<4428> of Judah<3063>? But in the time<6256> of his old<2209> age<2209> he was diseased<2470> in his feet<7272>.
And Asa<609> slept<7901> with his fathers<1> and was buried<6912> with his fathers<1> in the city<5892> of David<1732> his father<1>; and Jehoshaphat<3092> his son<1121> reigned<4427> in his place<8478>.
Now Nadab<5070> the son<1121> of Jeroboam<3379> became<4427> king<4427> over<5921> Israel<3478> in the second<8147> year<8141> of Asa<609> king<4428> of Judah<3063>, and he reigned<4427> over<5921> Israel<3478> two<8147> years<8141>.
He did<6213> evil<7451> in the sight<5869> of the LORD<3068>, and walked<1980> in the way<1870> of his father<1> and in his sin<2403> which<834> he made Israel<3478> sin<2398>.
Then Baasha<1201> the son<1121> of Ahijah<281> of the house<1004> of Issachar<3485> conspired<7194> against<5921> him, and Baasha<1201> struck<5221> him down<5221> at Gibbethon<1405>, which<834> belonged to the Philistines<6430>, while Nadab<5070> and all<3605> Israel<3478> were laying<6696> siege<6696> to Gibbethon<1405>.
So Baasha<1201> killed<4191> him in the third<7969> year<8141> of Asa<609> king<4428> of Judah<3063> and reigned<4427> in his place<8478>.
It came<1961> about as soon as he was king<4427>, he struck<5221> down<5221> all<3605> the household<1004> of Jeroboam<3379>. He did not leave<7604> to Jeroboam<3379> any<3605> persons<5397> alive<5397>, until<5704> he had destroyed<8045> them, according to the word<1697> of the LORD<3068>, which<834> He spoke<1696> by His servant<5650> Ahijah<281> the Shilonite<7888>,
and because<5921> of the sins<2403> of Jeroboam<3379> which<834> he sinned<2398>, and which<834> he made Israel<3478> sin<2398>, because of his provocation<3708> with which<834> he provoked<3707> the LORD<3068> God<430> of Israel<3478> to anger<3708>.
Now the rest<3499> of the acts<1697> of Nadab<5070> and all<3605> that he did<6213>, are they not written<3789> in the Book<5612> of the Chronicles<1697><3117> of the Kings<4428> of Israel<3478>?
There was war<4421> between<996> Asa<609> and Baasha<1201> king<4428> of Israel<3478> all<3605> their days<3117>.
In the third<7969> year<8141> of Asa<609> king<4428> of Judah<3063>, Baasha<1201> the son<1121> of Ahijah<281> became<4427> king<4427> over<5921> all<3605> Israel<3478> at Tirzah<8656>, and reigned twenty-four<6242><702> years<8141>.
He did<6213> evil<7451> in the sight<5869> of the LORD<3068>, and walked<1980> in the way<1870> of Jeroboam<3379> and in his sin<2403> which<834> he made Israel<3478> sin<2398>.
