So <3767> get rid of <659> all <3956> evil <2549> and <2532> all <3956> deceit <1388> and <2532> hypocrisy <5272> and <2532> envy <5355> and <2532> all <3956> slander <2636>.
And yearn <1971> like <5613> newborn <738> infants <1025> for pure <97>, spiritual <3050> milk <1051>, so that <2443> by <1722> it <846> you may grow up <837> to <1519> salvation <4991>,
if <1487> you have experienced <1089> the Lord’s <2962> kindness <5543>.
So as you come <4334> to <4314> him <3739>, a living <2198> stone <3037> rejected <593> by <5259> men <444> but <1161> chosen <1588> and priceless <1784> in <3844> God’s sight <2316>,
you <3618> yourselves <846>, as <5613> living <2198> stones <3037>, are built up <3618> as a spiritual <4152> house <3624> to <1519> be a holy <40> priesthood <2406> and to offer <399> spiritual <4152> sacrifices <2378> that are acceptable <2144> to God <2316> through <1223> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.
For <1360> it says <4023> in <1722> scripture <1124>, “Look <2400>, I lay <5087> in <1722> Zion <4622> a stone <3037>, a chosen <1588> and priceless <1784> cornerstone <204>, and <2532> whoever believes <4100> in <1909> him <846> will <2617> never <3756> <3361> be put to shame <2617>.”
So <3767> you <5213> who believe <4100> see his value <5092>, but <1161> for those who do not believe <569>, the stone <3037> that <3739> the builders <3618> rejected <593> has become <1096> the cornerstone <2776> <1137>,
and <2532> a stumbling-stone <3037> <4348> and <2532> a rock <4073> to trip over <4625>. They stumble <4350> because they disobey <544> the word <3056>, as they were destined to do <5087>.
But <1161> you <5210> are a chosen <1588> race <1085>, a royal <934> priesthood <2406>, a holy <40> nation <1484>, a people <2992> of <1519> his own <4047>, so that <3704> you may proclaim <1804> the virtues <703> of the one who called <2564> you <5209> out of <1537> darkness <4655> into <1519> his <846> marvelous <2298> light <5457>.
You once <4218> were not <3756> a people <2992>, but <1161> now <3568> you are God’s <2316> people <2992>. You were shown <1653> no <3756> mercy <1653>, but <1161> now <3568> you have received mercy <1653>.
Dear friends <27>, I urge <3870> you as <5613> foreigners <3941> and <2532> exiles <3927> to keep away <567> from fleshly <4559> desires <1939> that <3748> do battle <4754> against <2596> the soul <5590>,
and maintain good <2570> conduct <391> among <1722> the non-Christians <1484>, so that <2443> though <1722> they now malign <2635> you <5216> as <5613> wrongdoers <2555>, they may see <2029> your good <2570> deeds <2041> and glorify <1392> God <2316> when he appears <1722> <2250> <1984>.
Be subject <5293> to every <3956> human <442> institution <2937> for <1223> the Lord’s <2962> sake <1223>, whether <1535> to a king <935> as <5613> supreme <5242>
or <1535> to governors <2232> as <5613> those he <846> commissions <3992> to <1519> punish <1557> wrongdoers <2555> and <1161> praise <1868> those who do good <17>.
For <3754> <3779> God <2316> wants <2307> you to silence <5392> the ignorance <56> of foolish <878> people <444> by doing good <15>.
Live <2192> as <5613> free people <1658>, not <3361> using your freedom <1657> as <5613> a pretext <1942> for evil <2549>, but <235> as <5613> God’s <2316> slaves <1401>.
Honor <5091> all people <3956>, love <25> the family of believers <81>, fear <5399> God <2316>, honor <5091> the king <935>.
Slaves <3610>, be subject <5293> to your masters <1203> with <1722> all <3956> reverence <5401>, not <3756> only <3440> to those who are good <18> and <2532> gentle <1933>, but <235> also <2532> to those who are perverse <4646>.
For <1063> this <5124> finds God’s favor <5485>, if <1487> because <1223> of conscience <4893> toward God <2316> someone <5100> endures <5297> hardships <3077> in suffering <3958> unjustly <95>.
For <1063> what <4169> credit <2811> is it if <1487> you sin <264> and <2532> are mistreated <2852> and endure <5278> it? But <235> if <1487> you do good <15> and <2532> suffer <3958> and so endure <5278>, this <5124> finds favor <5485> with <3844> God <2316>.
For <1063> to <1519> this <5124> you were called <2564>, since <3754> Christ <5547> also <2532> suffered <3958> for <5228> you <5216>, leaving <5277> an example <5261> for <2443> you to follow <1872> in his <846> steps <2487>.
He committed <4160> no <3756> sin <266> nor <3761> was <2147> deceit <1388> found <2147> in <1722> his <846> mouth <4750>.
When <3058> he was maligned <3058>, he did <486> not <3756> answer back <486>; when <3958> he suffered <3958>, he threatened <546> no <3756> retaliation, but committed himself to God who judges <2919> justly <1346>.
He <399> himself <846> bore <399> our <2257> sins <266> in <1722> his <846> body <4983> on <1909> the tree <3586>, that <2443> we may cease <581> from sinning <266> and live <2198> for righteousness <1343>. By his wounds <3468> you were healed <2390>.
For <1063> you were <1510> going astray <4105> like <5613> sheep <4263> but <235> now <3568> you have turned back <1994> to <1909> the shepherd <4166> and <2532> guardian <1985> of your <5216> souls <5590>.
