When <01961> the people <05971> complained <0596>, it displeased <0241> <07451> the Lord <03068>. When the Lord <03068> heard <08085> it, his anger <0639> burned <02734>, and so the fire <0784> of the Lord <03068> burned <01197> among them and consumed <0398> some of the outer parts <07097> of the camp <04264>.
When the people <05971> cried <06817> to <0413> Moses <04872>, he <04872> prayed <06419> to <0413> the Lord <03068>, and the fire <0784> died out <08257>.
So he called <07121> the name <08034> of that <01931> place <04725> Taberah <08404> because <03588> there the fire <0784> of the Lord <03068> burned <01197> among them.
Now the mixed multitude <0628> who <0834> were among <07130> them craved <0183> more desirable <08378> foods, and <01571> so the Israelites <03478> <01121> wept <01058> again <07725> and said <0559>, “If <04310> only we had meat <01320> to eat <0398>!
We remember <02142> the fish <01710> we used to <0834> eat <0398> freely <02600> in Egypt <04714>, the cucumbers <07180>, the melons <020>, the leeks <02682>, the onions <01211>, and the garlic <07762>.
But now <06258> we <05315> are dried up <03002>, and there is nothing <0369> at all <03605> before <0413> us <05869> except <01115> this manna <04478>!”
(Now the manna <04478> was like coriander <01407> seed <02233>, and its color like the color of bdellium <0916>.
And the people <05971> went about <07751> and gathered <03950> it, and ground <02912> it with mills <07347> or <0176> pounded <01743> it in mortars <04085>; they baked <01310> it in pans <06517> and made <06213> cakes <05692> of it. It tasted <02940> like fresh <03955> olive oil <08081>.
And when the dew <02919> came down <03381> on <05921> the camp <04264> in the night <03915>, the manna <04478> fell <03381> with <05921> it.)
Moses <04872> heard <08085> the people <05971> weeping <01058> throughout their families <04940>, everyone <0376> at the door <06607> of his tent <0168>; and when the anger <0639> of the Lord <03069> was kindled <02734> greatly <03966>, Moses <04872> was also displeased <07451> <05869>.
And Moses <04872> said <0559> to <0413> the Lord <03068>, “Why <04100> have you afflicted <07489> your servant <05650>? Why <04100> have I not <03808> found <04672> favor <02580> in your sight <05869>, that you lay <07760> the burden <04853> of this <02088> entire <03605> people <05971> on <05921> me?
Did I <0595> conceive <02029> this <02088> entire <03605> people <05971>? Did I <0595> give birth <03205> to them, that <03588> you should say <0559> to <0413> me, ‘Carry <05375> them in your arms <02436>, as a foster father <0539> bears <05375> a nursing <03243> child,’ to the land <0127> which <0834> you swore <07650> to their fathers <01>?
From where <0370> shall I get meat <01320> to give <05414> to this <02088> entire <03605> people <05971>, for <03588> they cry <01058> to <05921> me, ‘Give <05414> us meat <01320>, that we may eat <0398>!’
I <0595> am not <03808> able <03201> to bear <05375> this <02088> entire <03605> people <05971> alone <0905>, because <03588> it is too <04480> heavy <03515> for me!
But if <0518> you <0859> are going to deal <06213> with me like this <03602>, then <04994> kill <02026> <02026> me immediately <02026> <02026>. If <0518> I have found <04672> favor <02580> in your sight <05869> then do not <0408> let me see <07200> my trouble <07451>.”
The Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> Moses <04872>, “Gather <0622> to me seventy <07657> men <0376> of the elders <02205> of Israel <03478>, whom <0834> you know <03045> are elders <02205> of the people <05971> and officials <07860> over them, and bring <03947> them to <0413> the tent <0168> of meeting <04150>; let them take their position <03320> there <08033> with <05973> you.
Then I will come down <03381> and speak <01696> with <05973> you there <08033>, and I will take part <0680> of <04480> the spirit <07307> that <0834> is on <05921> you, and will put <07760> it on <05921> them, and they will bear <05375> some of the burden <04853> of the people <05971> with <0854> you, so that you <0859> do not <03808> bear <05375> it all by yourself <0905>.
“And say <0559> to <0413> the people <05971>, ‘Sanctify <06942> yourselves for tomorrow <04279>, and you will eat <0398> meat <01320>, for <03588> you have wept <01058> in the hearing <0241> of the Lord <03068>, saying <0559>, “Who <04310> will give us meat <01320> to eat <0398>, for <03588> life was good <02895> for us in Egypt <04714>?” Therefore the Lord <03068> will give <05414> you meat <01320>, and you will eat <0398>.
You will eat <0398>, not <03808> just one <0259> day <03117>, nor <03808> two days <03117>, nor <03808> five <02568> days <03117>, nor <03808> ten <06235> days <03117>, nor <03808> twenty <06242> days <03117>,
but a whole <05704> month <02320>, until <05704> it comes <03117> out <03318> your nostrils <0639> and makes <01961> you sick <02214>, because <03282> you have despised <03988> the <0853> Lord <03068> who <0834> is among <07130> you and have wept <01058> before <06440> him, saying <0559>, “Why <04100> did we ever come out <03318> of Egypt <04714>?”’”
Moses <04872> said <0559>, “The people <05971> around <07130> me are 600,000 <0505> <03967> <08337> on foot <07273>; but you <0859> say <0559>, ‘I <0595> will give <05414> them meat <01320>, that they may eat <0398> for a whole <03117> month <02320>.’
Would they have enough <04672> if the flocks <06629> and herds <01241> were slaughtered <07819> for them? If <0518> all <03605> the fish <01709> of the sea <03220> were caught <0622> for them, would they have enough <04672>?”
And the Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> Moses <04872>, “Is the Lord’s <03068> hand <03027> shortened <07114>? Now <06258> you will see <07200> whether my word <01697> to you will come true <07136> or <0518> not <03808>!”
So Moses <04872> went out <03318> and told <01696> the people <05971> the words <01697> of the Lord <03068>. He then gathered <0622> seventy <07657> men <0582> of the elders <02205> of the people <05971> and had them stand <05975> around <05439> the tabernacle <0168>.
And the Lord <03068> came down <03381> in the cloud <06051> and spoke <01696> to <0413> them, and he took <0680> some <04480> of the Spirit <07307> that <0834> was on <05921> Moses and put <05414> it on <05921> the seventy <07657> elders <02205>. When <01961> the Spirit <07307> rested <05117> on <05921> them, they prophesied <05012>, but did not <03808> do so again <03254>.
But two <08147> men <0376> remained <07604> in the camp <04264>; one’s <0259> name <08034> was Eldad <0419>, and the other’s <08145> name <08034> was Medad <04312>. And the spirit <07307> rested <05117> on <05921> them. (Now they <01992> were among those in the registration <03789>, but had not <03808> gone <03318> to the tabernacle <0168>.) So they prophesied <05012> in the camp <04264>.
And a young man <05288> ran <07323> and told <05046> Moses <04872>, “Eldad <0419> and Medad <04312> are prophesying <05012> in the camp <04264>!”
Joshua <03091> son <01121> of Nun <05126>, the servant <08334> of Moses <04872>, one of his choice young men <0979>, said <06030>, “My lord <0113> Moses <04872>, stop <03607> them!”
Moses <04872> said <0559> to him, “Are you <0859> jealous <07065> for me? I wish that all <03605> the Lord’s <03068> people <05971> were prophets <05030>, that <03588> the Lord <03068> would put <05414> his Spirit <07307> on <05921> them!”
Then Moses <04872> returned <0622> to <0413> the camp <04264> along with the elders <02205> of Israel <03478>.
Now a wind <07307> went out <05265> from the Lord <03068> and brought <01468> quail <07958> from <04480> the sea <03220>, and let them fall <05203> near <05921> the camp <04264>, about a day’s <03117> journey <01870> on this side <03541>, and about a day’s <03117> journey <01870> on the other side <03541>, all around <05439> the camp <04264>, and about three feet <0520> high on <05921> the surface <06440> of the ground <0776>.
And the people <05971> stayed up <06965> all <03605> that day <03117>, all <03605> that night <03915>, and all <03605> the next <04283> day <03117>, and gathered <0622> the quail <07958>. The one who gathered <04591> the least gathered <0622> ten <06235> homers <02563>, and they spread <07849> <07849> them out <07849> <07849> for themselves all around <05439> the camp <04264>.
But while the meat <01320> was still <05750> between <0996> their teeth <08127>, before <02962> they chewed <03772> it, the anger <0639> of the Lord <03068> burned <02734> against the people <05971>, and the Lord <03068> struck <05221> the people <05971> with a very <03966> great <07227> plague <04347>.
So the name <08034> of that place <04725> was called <07121> Kibroth Hattaavah <06914>, because <03588> there <08033> they buried <06912> the people <05971> that craved <0183> different food.
The people <05971> traveled <05265> from Kibroth Hattaavah <06914> to Hazeroth <02698>, and they stayed <01961> at Hazeroth <02698>.
