A man <0376> from the household <01004> of Levi <03878> married <03947> a woman who was a descendant <01323> of Levi <03878>.
The woman <0802> became pregnant <02029> and gave birth <03205> to a son <01121>. When she saw <07200> that <03588> he was a healthy <02896> child, she <01931> hid <06845> him for three <07969> months <03391>.
But when she was no <03808> longer <05750> able <03201> to hide <06845> him, she took <03947> a papyrus <01573> basket <08392> for him and sealed <02560> it with bitumen <02564> and pitch <02203>. She put <07760> the child <03206> in it and set <07760> it among the reeds <05488> along <05921> the edge <08193> of the Nile <02975>.
His sister <0269> stationed <03320> herself at a distance <07350> to find out <03045> what <04100> would happen <06213> to him.
Then the daughter <01323> of Pharaoh <06547> came down <03381> to wash <07364> herself by <05921> the Nile <02975>, while her attendants <05291> were walking <01980> alongside <03027> the river <02975>, and she saw <07200> the <0853> basket <08392> among <08432> the reeds <05488>. She sent <07971> one of her attendants <0519>, took <03947> it,
opened <06605> it, and saw <07200> the child <03206>– a boy <05288>, crying <01058>!– and she felt compassion <02550> for <05921> him and said <0559>, “This <02088> is one of the Hebrews <05680>’ children <03206>.”
Then his sister <0269> said <0559> to <0413> Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323>, “Shall I go <01980> and get <07121> a nursing <03243> woman <0802> for you from <04480> the Hebrews <05680>, so that she may nurse <03243> the child <03206> for you?”
Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323> said <0559> to her, “Yes, do so <01980>.” So the young girl <05959> went <01980> and got the child’s <03206> mother <0517>.
Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323> said <0559> to her, “Take this <02088> child <03206> and nurse <03243> him for me, and I <0589> will pay <05414> your wages <07939>.” So the woman <0802> took <03947> the child <03206> and nursed <05134> him.
When the child <03206> grew <01431> older she brought <0935> him to Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323>, and he became <01961> her son <01121>. She named <08034> <07121> him Moses <04872>, saying <0559>, “Because <03588> I drew <04871> him from <04480> the water <04325>.”
In those <01992> days <03117>, when Moses <04872> had grown up <01431>, he went out <03318> to <0413> his people <0251> and observed <07200> their hard labor <05450>, and he saw <07200> an Egyptian <04713> man <0376> attacking <05221> a Hebrew <05680> man <0376>, one of his own people <0251>.
He looked <06437> this <03541> way and that <03541> and saw <07200> that <03588> no <0369> one <0376> was there, and then he attacked <05221> the Egyptian <04713> and concealed <02934> the body in the sand <02344>.
When he went out <03318> the next <08145> day <03117>, there were two <08147> Hebrew <05680> men <0376> fighting <05327>. So he said <0559> to the one who was in the wrong <07563>, “Why <04100> are you attacking <05221> your fellow <07453> Hebrew?”
The man <0376> replied <0559>, “Who <04310> made <07760> you a ruler <08269> and a judge <08199> over <05921> us? Are you <0859> planning <0559> to kill <02026> me like <0834> you killed <02026> that Egyptian <04713>?” Then Moses <04872> was afraid <03372>, thinking <0559>, “Surely <0403> what I did <01697> has become known <03045>.”
When Pharaoh <06547> heard <08085> about this <02088> event <01697>, he sought <01245> to kill <02026> Moses <04872>. So Moses <04872> fled <01272> from Pharaoh <06547> and settled <03427> in the land <0776> of Midian <04080>, and he settled <03427> by <05921> a certain well <0875>.
Now a priest <03548> of Midian <04080> had seven <07651> daughters <01323>, and they came <0935> and began to draw <01802> water and fill <04390> the troughs <07298> in order to water <08248> their father’s <01> flock <06629>.
When some shepherds <07462> came <0935> and drove <01644> them away <01644>, Moses <04872> came up <06965> and defended <03467> them and then watered <08248> their flock <06629>.
So when they came <0935> home to <0413> their father <01> Reuel <07467>, he asked <0559>, “Why <04069> have you come <0935> home so early <04116> today <03117>?”
They said <0559>, “An Egyptian <04713> man <0376> rescued <05337> us from <03027> the shepherds <07462>, and <01571> he actually drew <01802> <01802> water for us and watered <08248> the flock <06629>!”
He said <0559> to <0413> his daughters <01323>, “So where <0346> is he? Why <04100> in the world <02088> did you leave <05800> the man <0376>? Call <07121> him, so that he may eat <0398> a meal <03899> with us.”
Moses <04872> agreed <02974> to stay <03427> with <0854> the man <0376>, and he gave <05414> his daughter <01323> Zipporah <06855> to Moses <04872> in marriage.
When she bore <03205> a son <01121>, Moses named <08034> <07121> him Gershom <01647>, for <03588> he said <0559>, “I have become <01961> a resident foreigner <01616> in a foreign <05237> land <0776>.”
During <01961> that long <07227> period of time <03117> the king <04428> of Egypt <04714> died <04191>, and the Israelites <03478> <01121> groaned <0584> because of the slave labor <05656>. They cried out <02199>, and their desperate cry <07775> because of their slave labor <05656> went up <05927> to <0413> God <0430>.
God <0430> heard <08085> their groaning <05009>, God <0430> remembered <02142> his covenant <01285> with <0854> Abraham <085>, with <0854> Isaac <03327>, and with <0854> Jacob <03290>,
God <0430> saw <07200> the Israelites <03478> <01121>, and God <0430> understood <03045>….
