2He said <0559> to <0413> them, “Today <03117> I am a hundred <03967> and twenty <06242> years <08141> old <01121>. I <0595> am no <03808> longer <05750> able <03201> to get <03318> about <0935>, and the Lord <03068> has said <0559> to <0413> me, ‘You will not <03808> cross <05674> the Jordan <03383>.’
3As for the Lord <03068> your God <0430>, he <01931> is about to cross over <05674> before <06440> you; he <01931> will destroy <08045> these <0428> nations <01471> before <06440> you and dispossess <03423> them. As for Joshua <03091>, he <01931> is about to cross <05674> before <06440> you just as <0834> the Lord <03068> has said <01696>.
4The Lord <03068> will do <06213> to them just what <0834> he did <06213> to Sihon <05511> and Og <05747>, the Amorite <0567> kings <04428>, and to their land <0776>, which <0834> he destroyed <08045>.
5The Lord <03068> will deliver <05414> them over <06440> to you and you will do <06213> to them according to the whole <03605> commandment <04687> I have given <06680> you.
6Be strong <02388> and courageous <0553>! Do not <0408> fear <03372> or <0408> tremble <06206> before <06440> them, for <03588> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> is the one who is going <01980> with <05973> you. He will not <03808> fail <07503> you or <03808> abandon <05800> you!”
7Then Moses <04872> called out <07121> to Joshua <03091> in the presence <05869> of all <03605> Israel <03478>, “Be strong <02388> and courageous <0553>, for <03588> you <0859> will accompany <0935> these <02088> people <05971> to <0413> the land <0776> that <0834> the Lord <03068> promised <07650> to give <05414> their ancestors <01>, and you <0859> will enable them to inherit <05157> it.
8The Lord <03068> is indeed going <01980> before <06440> you– he <01931> will be <01961> with <05973> you; he will not <03808> fail <07503> you or <03808> abandon <05800> you. Do not <03808> be afraid <03372> or <03808> discouraged <02865>!”
9Then Moses <04872> wrote down <03789> this <02063> law <08451> and gave <05414> it to <0413> the Levitical <03878> <01121> priests <03548>, who carry <05375> the ark <0727> of the Lord’s <03068> covenant <01285>, and to <0413> all <03605> Israel’s <03478> elders <02205>.
10He <04872> commanded <06680> them: “At the end <07093> of seven <07651> years <08141>, at the appointed <04150> time <08141> of the cancellation <08059> of debts <08059>, at the Feast <02282> of Temporary Shelters <05521>,
11when all <03605> Israel <03478> comes <0935> to appear <07200> before <06440> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> in the place <04725> he chooses <0977>, you must read <07121> this <02063> law <08451> before <05048> them <03478> <03605> within their hearing <0241>.
12Gather <06950> the people <05971>– men <0376>, women <0802>, and children <02945>, as well as the resident foreigners <01616> in your villages <08179>– so <04616> they may hear <08085> and thus <04616> learn <03925> about and fear <03372> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> and carefully obey <06213> <08104> all <03605> the words <01697> of this <02063> law <08451>.
13Then their children <01121>, who <0834> have not <03808> known <03045> this law, will also hear <08085> about and learn <03925> to fear <03372> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> for <0834> as long as <03117> <03605> you <0859> live <02416> in <05921> the land <0127> you <0859> are crossing <05674> the Jordan <03383> to possess <03423>.”
14Then the Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> Moses <04872>, “The day <03117> of your death <04191> is near <07126>. Summon <07121> Joshua <03091> and present <03320> yourselves in the tent <0168> of meeting <04150> so that I can commission <06680> him.” So Moses <04872> and Joshua <03091> presented <03320> themselves in the tent <0168> of meeting <04150>.
15The Lord <03068> appeared <07200> in the tent <0168> in a pillar <05982> of cloud <06051> that stood <05975> above <05921> the door <06607> of the tent <0168>.
16Then the Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> Moses <04872>, “You are about to die <01> <05973> <07901>, and then these <02088> people <05971> will begin <06965> to prostitute <02181> themselves with <0310> the foreign <05236> gods <0430> of the land <0776> into which <0834> they <01931> are going <0935>. They will reject <05800> me and break <06565> my covenant <01285> that <0834> I have made <03772> with <0854> them.
17At that time <03117> my anger <0639> will erupt <02734> against them <01931> and I will abandon <05800> them and hide <05641> my face <06440> from them until they <01992> are <01961> devoured <0398>. Many <07227> disasters <07451> and distresses <06869> will overcome <04672> them <01931> so that they will say <0559> at that time <03117>, ‘Have not <03808> these <0428> disasters <07451> overcome <04672> us because <03588> our God <0430> is not <0369> among <07130> us?’
18But I <0595> will certainly hide <05641> <05640> myself <06440> at that <01931> time <03117> because <05921> of all <03605> the wickedness <07451> they will have <0834> done <06213> by <03588> turning <06437> to <0413> other <0312> gods <0430>.
19Now <06258> write <03789> down for yourselves the following <02063> song <07892> and teach <03925> it to the Israelites <03478> <01121>. Put <07760> it into their very mouths <06310> so that <04616> this <02063> song <07892> may serve as my witness <05707> against the Israelites <03478> <01121>!
20For <03588> after I have brought <0935> them to <0413> the land <0127> I promised <07650> to their ancestors <01>– one flowing <02100> with milk <02461> and honey <01706>– and they eat <0398> their fill <07646> and become fat <01878>, then they will turn <06437> to <0413> other <0312> gods <0430> and worship <05647> them; they will reject <05006> me and break <06565> my covenant <01285>.
21Then when <03588> many <07227> disasters <07451> and distresses <06869> overcome <04672> them this <02063> song <07892> will testify <06030> against <06440> them, for <03588> their descendants <02233> will not <03808> forget <07911> it. I know <03045> the intentions <03336> they <01931> have in mind <06213> today <03117>, even before <02962> I bring <0935> them to <0413> the land <0776> I have promised <07650>.”
22So on that <01931> day <03117> Moses <04872> wrote <03789> down this <02063> song <07892> and taught <03925> it to the Israelites <03478> <01121>,
23and the Lord commissioned <06680> Joshua <03091> son <01121> of Nun <05126>, “Be strong <02388> and courageous <0553>, for <03588> you <0859> will take <0935> the Israelites <03478> <01121> to <0413> the land <0776> I have promised <07650> them, and I <0595> will be <01961> with <05973> you.”
24When <01961> Moses <04872> finished <03615> writing <03789> on <05921> a scroll <05612> the words <01697> of this <02063> law <08451> in their entirety,
25he <04872> commanded <06680> the Levites <03881> who carried <05375> the ark <0727> of the Lord’s <03068> covenant <01285>,
26“Take <03947> this <02088> scroll <05612> of the law <08451> and place <07760> it beside <06654> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the Lord <03068> your God <0430>. It will remain <01961> there <08033> as a witness <05707> against you,
27for <03588> I <0595> know <03045> about your rebellion <04805> and stubbornness <07186> <06203>. Indeed <02005>, even while <05750> I have been living <02416> among <05973> you to this very day <03117>, you have rebelled <04784> against <05973> the Lord <03068>; you will be <01961> even <0637> more rebellious after <0310> my death <04194>!
28Gather <06950> to <0413> me all <03605> your tribal <07626> elders <02205> and officials <07860> so I can speak <01696> to them directly <0241> about these <0428> things <01697> and call the heavens <08064> and the earth <0776> to witness <05749> against them.
29For <03588> I know <03045> that <03588> after <0310> I die <04194> you will totally corrupt <07843> <07843> yourselves and turn away <05493> from <04480> the path <01870> I have commanded <06680> you to walk. Disaster <07451> will confront <07122> you in the days <03117> to come <0319> because <03588> you will act <06213> wickedly <07451> before <05869> the Lord <03068>, inciting <03707> him to anger <03707> because of your actions <03027> <04639>.”
30Then Moses <04872> recited <01696> the words <01697> of this <02063> song <07892> from start to <05704> finish <08552> in the hearing <0241> of the whole <03605> assembly <06951> of Israel <03478>.
