Dual Panel1When <03588> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> brings <0935> you to <0413> the land <0776> that <0834> you <0859> are going <0935> to occupy <03423> and forces out <05394> many <07227> nations <01471> before <06440> you– Hittites <02850>, Girgashites <01622>, Amorites <0567>, Canaanites <03669>, Perizzites <06522>, Hivites <02340>, and Jebusites <02983>, seven <07651> nations <01471> more numerous <07227> and powerful <06099> than <04480> you–
2and he <0430> <03068> delivers <05414> them over <05414> to <06440> you and you attack <05221> them, you must utterly annihilate <02763> <02763> them. Make <03772> no <03808> treaty <01285> with them and show <02603> them no <03808> mercy <02603>!
3You must not <03808> intermarry <02859> with them. Do not <03808> give <05414> your daughters <01323> to their sons <01121> or <03808> take <03947> their daughters <01323> for your sons <01121>,
4for <03588> they will turn <05493> your sons <01121> away <05493> from <0310> me to worship <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>. Then the anger <0639> of the Lord <03068> will erupt <02734> against you and he will quickly <04118> destroy <08045> you.
5Instead <0518> <03588>, this is what <03541> you must do <06213> to them <01992>: You must tear down <05422> their altars <04196>, shatter <07665> their sacred pillars <04676>, cut down <01438> their sacred Asherah poles <0842>, and burn up <08313> their idols <06456>.
6For <03588> you <0859> are a people <05971> holy <06918> to the Lord <03068> your God <0430>. He <0430> <03068> has chosen <0977> you to be <01961> his people <05971>, prized <05459> above all <03605> others <05971> on <05921> the face <06440> of the earth <0127>.
7It is not <03808> because you were more numerous <07230> than all <03605> the other peoples <05971> that the Lord <03068> favored <02836> and chose <0977> you– for <03588> in fact you <0859> were the least <04592> numerous of all <03605> peoples <05971>.
8Rather it is because of his <03068> love <0160> for you and his faithfulness <08104> to the promise <07621> he solemnly vowed <07650> to your ancestors <01> that the Lord <03068> brought you out <03318> with great <02389> power <03027>, redeeming <06299> you from the place of slavery <05650> <01004>, from the power <03027> of Pharaoh <06547> king <04428> of Egypt <04714>.
9So realize <03045> that <03588> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> is the true God <0430>, the faithful <0539> God <0410> who keeps <08104> covenant <01285> faithfully <02617> with those who love <0157> him and keep <08104> his commandments <04687>, to a thousand <0505> generations <01755>,
10but who pays <07999> back those who hate <08130> him as they deserve <06440> and destroys <06> them. He will not <03808> ignore <0309> those who hate <08130> him but will repay <07999> them as they deserve <06440>!
11So keep <08104> the commandments <04687>, statutes <02706>, and ordinances <04941> that <0834> I <0595> today <03117> am commanding <06680> you to do <06213>.
12If <06118> you obey <08085> these <0428> ordinances <04941> and are careful <08104> to do <06213> them, the Lord <03068> your God <0430> will faithfully keep <08104> covenant <01285> with you as <0834> he promised <07650> your ancestors <01>.
13He will love <0157> and bless <01288> you, and make you numerous <07235>. He will bless <01288> you with many children <0990> <06529>, with the produce <06529> of your soil <0127>, your grain <01715>, your new wine <08492>, your oil <03323>, the offspring <07698> of your oxen <0504>, and the young <06251> of your flocks <06629> in <05921> the land <0127> which <0834> he promised <07650> your ancestors <01> to give <05414> you.
14You will be blessed <01288> beyond all <03605> peoples <05971>; there will be <01961> no <03808> barrenness <06135> <06135> among you or your livestock <0929>.
15The Lord <03068> will protect <05493> you from <04480> all <03605> sickness <02483>, and you will not <03808> experience <07760> any <03605> of the terrible <07451> diseases <04064> that <0834> you knew <03045> in Egypt <04714>; instead he will inflict <05414> them on all <03605> those who hate <08130> you.
16You must destroy <0398> all <03605> the people <05971> whom the Lord <03068> your God <0430> is about to deliver <05414> over to you; you must not <03808> pity <02347> them or <03808> worship <05647> their gods <0430>, for <03588> that will be a snare <04170> to you.
17If <03588> you think <03824> <0559>, “These <0428> nations <01471> are more numerous <07227> than <04480> I– how <0349> can <03201> I dispossess <03423> them?”
18you must not <03808> fear <03372> them <01992>. You must carefully recall <02142> <02142> what <0834> the Lord <03068> your God <0430> did <06213> to Pharaoh <06547> and all <03605> Egypt <04714>,
19the great <01419> judgments <04531> you saw <07200>, the signs <0226> and wonders <04159>, the strength <02389> and power <05186> <02220> by which <0834> he brought <03318> you out <03318>– thus <03651> the Lord <03068> <03068> your God <0430> <0430> will do <06213> to all <03605> the people <05971> you <0859> fear <03373>.
20Furthermore <01571>, the Lord <03068> your God <0430> will release <07971> hornets <06880> among them until <05704> the very last ones who hide <05641> from you perish <06>.
21You must not <03808> tremble <06206> in their presence <06440>, for <03588> the Lord <03068> your God <0430>, who is present among <07130> you, is a great <01419> and awesome <03372> God <0410>.
22He <03068>, the God <0430> who leads you, will expel <05394> the nations <01471> little <04592> by little <04592>. You will not <03808> be allowed <03201> to destroy <03615> them all at once <04118> lest <06435> the wild <07704> animals <02416> overrun <07235> you.
23The Lord <03068> your God <0430> will give <05414> them over <05414> to <06440> you; he will throw <02000> them into a great <01419> panic <04103> until <05704> they are destroyed <08045>.
24He will hand <03027> over <05414> their kings <04428> to you and you will erase <06> their very names <08034> from <08478> memory <08064>. Nobody <0376> <03808> will be able to resist <03320> you until <05704> you destroy <08045> them.
25You must burn <08313> the images <06456> of their gods <0430>, but do not <03808> covet <02530> the silver <03701> and gold <02091> that covers <05921> them so <06435> much that <06435> you take <03947> it for yourself and thus become ensnared <03369> by it; for <03588> it <01931> is abhorrent <08441> to the Lord <03068> your God <0430>.
26You must not <03808> bring <0935> any abhorrent <08441> thing into <0413> your house <01004> and thereby <03644> become <01961> an object of divine wrath <02764> along with it. You must absolutely detest <08262> <08262> and abhor <08581> it, for <03588> it <01931> is an object of divine wrath <02764>.
