3Tell <05608> your children <01121> about <05921> it, have your children <01121> tell their children <01121>, and their children <01121> the following <0312> generation <01755>.
4What the gazam-locust left <03499> the ‘arbeh-locust <01501> consumed <0398>, what the ‘arbeh-locust <0697> <0697> left <03499> the yeleq-locust <03218> consumed <0398>, and what the yeleq-locust <03218> left <03499> the hasil-locust <02625> consumed <0398>!
5Wake up <06974>, you drunkards <07910>, and weep <01058>! Wail <03213>, all <03605> you wine <03196> drinkers <08354>, because the sweet wine <06071> has been taken away <03772> from you.
6For <03588> a nation <01471> has invaded <05921> <05927> our land <0776>. There are so many <06099> of them they are too numerous to count <04557> <0369>. Their teeth <08127> are like those <08127> of a lion <0738>; they tear apart <04973> their prey <04973> like a lioness <03833>.
7They have destroyed <08047> <07760> our vines <01612>; they have turned our fig trees <08384> into mere splinters <07111>. They have completely stripped off <02834> <02834> the bark <02834> <02834> and thrown <07993> them aside <07993>; the twigs <08299> are stripped bare <03835>.
8Wail <0421> like a young virgin <01330> clothed <02296> in sackcloth <08242>, lamenting the death of her husband-to-be <05271> <01167>.
9No one brings <03772> grain offerings <04503> or drink offerings <05262> to the temple <01004> of the Lord <03068> anymore. So the priests <03548>, those who serve <08334> the Lord <03068>, are in mourning <056>.
10The crops of the fields <07704> have been destroyed <07703>. The ground <0127> is in mourning <056> because <03588> the grain <01715> has perished <07703>. The fresh wine <08492> has dried up <03001>; the olive oil <03323> languishes <0536>.
11Be distressed <0954>, farmers <0406>; wail <03213>, vinedressers <03755>, over <05921> <05921> the wheat <02406> and the barley <08184>. For <03588> the harvest <07105> of the field <07704> has perished <06>.
12The vine <01612> has dried up <03001>; the fig tree <08384> languishes <0535>– the pomegranate <07416>, date <08558>, and apple <08598> as well <01571>. In fact, all <03605> the trees <06086> of the field <07704> have dried up <03001>. Indeed <03588>, the joy <08342> of <04480> the people <0120> <01121> has dried up <03001>!
13Get dressed <02296> and lament <05594>, you priests <03548>! Wail <03213>, you who minister <08334> at the altar <04196>! Come <0935>, spend the night <03885> in sackcloth <08242>, you servants <08334> of my God <0430>, because <03588> no one brings <04513> grain offerings <04503> or drink offerings <05262> to the temple <01004> of your God <0430> anymore.
14Announce a holy <06942> fast <06685>; proclaim <07121> a sacred assembly <06116>. Gather <0622> the elders <02205> and all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776> to the temple <01004> of the Lord <03068> your God <0430>, and cry out <02199> to <0413> the Lord <03068>.
15How awful <0162> that day <03117> will be! For <03588> the day <03117> of the Lord <03068> is near <07138>; it will come as destruction <07701> from the Divine <07706> Destroyer <0935>.
16Our food <0400> has been cut off <03772> right before <05048> our eyes <05869>! There is no <03808> longer any joy <08057> or gladness <01524> in the temple <01004> of our God <0430>!
17The grains of seed <06507> have shriveled <05685> beneath <08478> their shovels <04053>. Storehouses <0214> have been decimated <08074> and granaries <04460> have been torn down <02040>, for <03588> the grain <01715> has dried up <03001>.
18Listen to the cattle <0929> groan <0584>! The herds <05739> of livestock <01241> wander around in confusion <0943> because <03588> they have no <0369> pasture <04829>. Even <01571> the flocks <05739> of sheep <06629> are suffering <0816>.
19To <0413> you, O Lord <03068>, I call out <07121> for help, for <03588> fire <0784> has burned up <0398> the grassy <04057> pastures <04999>, flames <03852> have razed <03857> all <03605> the trees <06086> in the fields <07704>.
20Even <01571> the wild <07704> animals <0929> cry out <06165> to <0413> you; for <03588> the river beds <04325> <0650> have dried <03001> up; fire <0784> has destroyed <0398> the grassy <04057> pastures <04999>.
