After <01961> Solomon <08010> finished <03615> building <01129> the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004>, the royal <04428> palace <01004>, and all <03605> the other construction projects he <08010> had planned <06213> <02654> <02837>,

the Lord <03068> appeared <07200> to <0413> Solomon <08010> a second time <08145>, in the same way <0834> he had appeared <07200> to <0413> him at Gibeon <01391>.

The Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> him, “I have answered <08085> your prayer <08605> and your request <08467> for help <02603> that <0834> you made to me <06440>. I have consecrated <06942> this <02088> temple <01004> you built <01129> by making <07760> it my permanent <05769> <05704> home <08034>; I will be <01961> constantly <03117> <03605> present <08033> <03820> <05869> there.

You <0859> must serve <01980> me with integrity <08537> and sincerity <03476>, just as your father <01> David <01732> did. Do <06213> everything <03605> I commanded <06680> and obey <08104> my rules <02706> and regulations <04941>.

Then I will allow your dynasty <04467> <03678> to rule <06965> over <05921> Israel <03478> permanently <05769>, just as <0834> I promised <01696> your father <01> David <01732>, ‘You will not <03808> fail <03772> to have a successor <0376> on <05921> the throne <03678> of Israel <03478>.’

“But if <0518> you <0859> or your sons <01121> ever turn away <07725> <07725> from <0310> me, fail <03808> to obey <08104> the regulations <04687> and rules <02708> I instructed <05414> you to keep <06440>, and decide <01980> to serve <05647> and worship <07812> other <0312> gods <0430>,

then I will remove <03772> Israel <03478> from the land <0127> I have given <05414> them, I will abandon this temple <01004> I have consecrated <06942> with my presence <06440>, and Israel <03478> will be <01961> mocked <04912> and ridiculed <08148> among all <03605> the nations <05971>.

This <02088> temple <01004> will become <01961> a heap of ruins <05945>; everyone <03605> who passes <05674> by <05921> it will be shocked <08074> and will hiss out <08319> their scorn <08319>, saying <0559>, ‘Why <04100> did <06213> the Lord <03068> do this <03602> to this <02088> land <0776> and this <02063> temple <01004>?’

Others will then answer <0559>, ‘Because <0834> they abandoned <05800> the Lord <03068> their God <0430>, who <0834> led <03318> their ancestors <01> out <03318> of Egypt <04714>. They embraced <02388> other <0312> gods <0430> whom they worshiped <07812> and served <05647>. That is why <03651> <05921> the Lord <03068> has brought <0935> all <03605> this <02063> disaster <07451> down <0935> on <05921> them.’”

After <07097> <01961> twenty <06242> years <08141>, during which <0834> Solomon <08010> built <01129> the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004> and the royal <04428> palace <01004>,

King <04428> Solomon <08010> gave <05414> King <04428> Hiram <02438> of Tyre <06865> twenty <06242> cities <05892> in the region <0776> of Galilee <01551>, because Hiram <02438> had supplied <05375> Solomon <08010> with cedars <0730>, evergreens <01265>, and all <03605> the gold <02091> he wanted <02656>.

When Hiram <02438> went out <03318> from Tyre <06865> to inspect <07200> the cities <05892> Solomon <08010> had given <05414> him, he was not <03808> pleased <05869> <03474> with them.

Hiram asked <0559>, “Why <04100> did you <05414> give me these <0428> cities <05892>, my friend <0251>?” He called <07121> that area the region <0776> of Cabul <03521>, a name which it has retained <05704> to this <02088> day <03117>.

Hiram <02438> had sent <07971> to the king <04428> one hundred <03967> twenty <06242> talents <03603> of gold <02091>.

Here <02088> are the details <01697> concerning <0834> the work crews <04522> King <04428> Solomon <08010> conscripted <05927> to build <01129> the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004>, his palace <01004>, the terrace <04407>, the wall <02346> of Jerusalem <03389>, and the cities of Hazor <02674>, Megiddo <04023>, and Gezer <01507>.

(Pharaoh <06547>, king <04428> of Egypt <04714>, had attacked <05927> and captured <03920> Gezer <01507>. He burned <08313> it and killed <02026> the Canaanites <03669> who lived <03427> in the city <05892>. He gave <05414> it as a wedding present <07964> to his daughter <01323>, who had married <0802> Solomon <08010>.)

Solomon <08010> built up <01129> Gezer <01507>, lower <08481> Beth Horon <01032>,

Baalath <01191>, Tadmor <08412> in the wilderness <04057>,

all <03605> the storage <04543> cities <05892> that belonged <01961> to him <08010>, and the cities <05892> where chariots <07393> and horses <06571> were kept. He built <01129> whatever <02837> he <08010> wanted <02836> in Jerusalem <03389>, Lebanon <03844>, and throughout <03605> his entire <03605> kingdom <04475>.

Now several <03605> non-Israelite <03478> <01121> <03808> peoples <05971> were left <03498> in the land after the conquest of Joshua, including <04480> the Amorites <0567>, Hittites <02850>, Perizzites <06522>, Hivites <02340>, and Jebusites <02983>.

Their descendants <01121> remained <03498> in the land <0776> (the Israelites <03478> <01121> were unable <03201> <03808> to wipe <02763> them out completely <02763>). Solomon <08010> conscripted <05927> them for his work crews <05647> <04522>, and they continue <05704> in that role to this <02088> very day <03117>.

Solomon <08010> did not <03808> assign <05414> Israelites <03478> <01121> to these work crews <01992>; the Israelites served <05650> as his soldiers <04421> <0376>, attendants <05650>, officers <08269>, charioteers <07991>, and commanders <08269> of his chariot <07393> forces <06571>.

These <0428> men <08269> were also in charge <05324> of Solomon’s <08010> work <04399> projects; there were a total of 550 <03967> <02568> <02572> men <05971> who supervised <07287> the workers <04399> <06213>.

Solomon built <01129> the terrace <04407> as soon <0389> as Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323> moved up <05927> from the city <05892> of David <01732> to <0413> the palace <01004> Solomon built <01129> for <0227> her.

Three <07969> times <06471> a year <08141> Solomon <08010> offered <05927> burnt offerings <05930> and peace offerings <08002> on <05921> the altar <04196> he had built <01129> for the Lord <03068>, burning incense <06999> along with <0854> them before <06440> the Lord <03068>. He made <07999> the temple <01004> his official worship place.

King <04428> Solomon <08010> also built <06213> ships <0590> in Ezion Geber <06100>, which <0834> is located near <0854> Elat <0359> in the land <0776> of Edom <0123>, on <05921> the shore <08193> of the Red <05488> Sea <03220>.

Hiram <02438> sent <07971> his fleet <0590> and some of his sailors <0591> <0582>, who were well acquainted <03045> with <05973> the sea <03220>, to serve with Solomon’s <08010> men <05650>.

They sailed <0935> to Ophir <0211>, took <03947> from there <08033> four <0702> hundred <03967> twenty <06242> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, and then brought <0935> them to <0413> King <04428> Solomon <08010>.
