After <07093> <01961> twenty <06242> years <08141>, during which <0834> Solomon <08010> built <01129> the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004> and his royal palace <01004>,
Solomon <08010> rebuilt <01129> the cities <05892> that <0834> Huram <02361> had given <05414> him <08010> and settled <03427> Israelites <03478> <01121> there <08033>.
Solomon <08010> went <01980> to Hamath Zobah <02578> and seized <02388> it.
He built up <01129> Tadmor <08412> in the wilderness <04057> and all <03605> the storage <04543> cities <05892> he had built <01129> in Hamath <02574>.
He made <01129> upper <05945> Beth Horon <01032> and lower <08481> Beth Horon <01032> fortified <04692> cities <05892> with walls <02346> and barred <01280> gates <01817>,
and built up Baalath <01191>, all <03605> the storage <04543> cities <05892> that <0834> belonged <01961> to him <08010>, and all <03605> the cities <05892> where chariots <07393> and horses <06571> were kept. He <08010> built <01129> whatever <02837> <03605> he wanted <02836> in Jerusalem <03389>, Lebanon <03844>, and throughout <03605> his entire <0776> kingdom <04474>.
Now several <03605> non-Israelite <03478> <03808> peoples <05971> were left <03498> in the land after the conquest of Joshua, including <04480> the Hittites <02850>, Amorites <0567>, Perizzites <06522>, Hivites <02340>, and Jebusites <02983>.
Their descendants <01121> remained <03498> in the land <0776> (the Israelites <03478> <01121> were unable <03808> to wipe <03615> them out <03615>). Solomon <08010> conscripted <05927> them for his work crews <04522> and they continue <05704> in that role to <05704> this <02088> very day <03117>.
Solomon <08010> did not <03808> assign <05414> Israelites <03478> <01121> to these work <04399> crews <05650>; the Israelites served as his soldiers <04421> <0582>, officers <08269>, charioteers <07991>, and commanders <08269> of his chariot <07393> forces <06571>.
These <0428> men worked for Solomon <08010> <04428> as supervisors <05333> <08269>; there were a total of 250 <03967> <02572> of them who were in charge <07287> of the people <05971>.
Solomon <08010> moved <05927> Pharaoh’s <06547> daughter <01323> up <05927> from the City <05892> of David <01732> to the palace <01004> he had built <01129> for her, for <03588> he said <0559>, “My wife <0802> must not <03808> live <03427> in the palace <01004> of King <04428> David <01732> of Israel <03478>, for <03588> the places where <0834> the ark <0727> of the Lord <03068> has entered <0935> are holy <06944>.”
Then <0227> Solomon <08010> offered <05927> burnt sacrifices <05930> to the Lord <03068> on <05921> the altar <04196> of the Lord <03068> which <0834> he had built <01129> in front <06440> of the temple’s porch <0197>.
He observed the daily <03117> <03117> requirements <01697> for sacrifices <05927> that Moses <04872> had specified for Sabbaths <07676>, new moon <02320> festivals <04150>, and the three <07969> annual <08141> celebrations <06471>– the Feast <02282> of Unleavened <04682> Bread, the Feast <02282> of Weeks <07620>, and the Feast <02282> of Temporary Shelters <05521>.
As his father <01> David <01732> had decreed <04941>, Solomon appointed <05975> the divisions <04256> of the priests <03548> to do their assigned tasks <05656>, the Levitical <03881> orders <04931> to lead worship <01984> and help <08334> the priests <03548> with their daily <03117> <03117> tasks <01697>, and the divisions <04256> of the gatekeepers <07778> to serve at their assigned gates <08179> <08179>. This was what David <01732> the man <0376> of God <0430> had ordered <04687>.
They did not <03808> neglect <05493> any <03605> detail <01697> of the king’s <04428> orders <04687> pertaining <05921> to the priests <03548>, Levites <03881>, and treasuries <0214>.
All <03605> the work <04399> ordered by Solomon <08010> was completed <03559>, from <05704> the day <03117> the foundation <04143> of the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004> was laid until <05704> it was finished <03615>; the Lord’s <03068> temple <01004> was completed <08003>.
Then <0227> Solomon <08010> went <01980> to Ezion Geber <06100> and to <0413> Elat <0359> on <05921> the coast <03220> <08193> in the land <0776> of Edom <0123>.
Huram <02361> sent <07971> him ships and some of his sailors <0591> <05650>, men <05650> who were well acquainted <03045> with the sea <03220>. They sailed <0935> with <05973> Solomon’s <08010> men <05650> to Ophir <0211>, and took <03947> from there <08033> 450 <02572> <03967> <0702> talents <03603> of gold <02091>, which they brought back <0935> to <0413> King <04428> Solomon <08010>.
