13The whole <1722> <3650> imperial guard <4232> and <2532> everyone <3956> else <3062> knows that <5620> I <3450> am <1096> in prison <1199> for the sake of Christ <5547>,
14and <2532> most <4119> of the brothers and sisters <80>, having confidence <3982> in <1722> the Lord <2962> because of my <3450> imprisonment <1199>, now more <4056> than ever dare <5111> to speak <2980> the word <3056> fearlessly <870>.
15Some <5100>, to be sure, are preaching <2784> Christ <5547> from <1223> envy <5355> and <2532> rivalry <2054>, but <1161> others <5100> from <1223> goodwill <2107>.
16The latter do so from <1537> love <26> because they know <1492> that <3754> I am placed <2749> here for <1519> the defense <627> of the gospel <2098>.
17The former proclaim <2605> Christ <5547> from <1537> selfish ambition <2052>, not <3756> sincerely <55>, because they think <3633> they can cause <1453> trouble <2347> for me in my <3450> imprisonment <1199>.
18What <5101> is the result? Only <4133> that <3754> in every <3956> way <5158>, whether <1535> in pretense <4392> or <1535> in truth <225>, Christ <5547> is being proclaimed <2605>, and <2532> in <1722> this <5129> I rejoice <5463>. Yes, and <2532> I will continue to rejoice <5463>,
19for <1063> I know <1492> that <3754> this <5124> will turn out <576> for <1519> my <3427> deliverance <4991> through <1223> your <5216> prayers <1162> and <2532> the help <2024> of the Spirit <4151> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>.
20My <3450> confident <603> hope <1680> is that <3754> I will <153> in <1722> no way <3762> be ashamed <153> but <235> that with <1722> complete <3956> boldness <3954>, even <2532> now <3568> as <5613> always <3842>, Christ <5547> will be exalted <3170> in <1722> my <3450> body <4983>, whether <1535> I live <1223> <2222> or <1535> die <1223> <2288>.
21For <1063> to me <1698>, living <2198> is Christ <5547> and <2532> dying <599> is gain <2771>.
22Now <1161> if <1487> I am to go on living <2198> in <1722> the body <4561>, this <5124> will mean productive <2590> work <2041> for me <3427>, yet <2532> I <1107> don’t <3756> know <1107> which <5101> I prefer <138>:
23I feel torn <4912> between <1537> the two <1417>, because I have <2192> a desire <1939> to <1519> depart <360> and <2532> be <1510> with <4862> Christ <5547>, which is better by far <4183> <3123> <2908>,
24but <1161> it is more vital <316> for <1223> your <5209> sake that I remain <1961> in the body <4561>.
25And <2532> since I am sure <3982> of this <5124>, I know <1492> that <3754> I will remain <3306> and <2532> continue <3887> with all <3956> of you <5213> for the sake <1519> of your <5216> progress <4297> and <2532> joy <5479> in the faith <4102>,
26so that <2443> what you <5216> can be proud <2745> of may increase <4052> because of <1223> me <1698> in <1722> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>, when I <1699> come <3952> back <3825> to <4314> you <5209>.
27Only <3440> conduct <4176> yourselves in a manner <4176> worthy <516> of the gospel <2098> of Christ <5547> so that <2443>– whether <1535> I come <2064> and <2532> see <1492> you <5209> or whether <1535> I remain absent <548>– I should hear <191> that <3754> you are standing firm <4739> in <1722> one <1520> spirit <4151>, with one <1520> mind <5590>, by contending side by side <4866> for the faith <4102> of the gospel <2098>,
28and <2532> by not <3361> being intimidated <4426> in <1722> any way <3367> by <5259> your opponents <480>. This is <1510> a sign <1732> of their <846> destruction <684>, but <1161> of your <5216> salvation <4991>– a sign <5124> which is from <575> God <2316>.
29For <3754> it has been granted <5483> to you <5213> not <3756> only <3440> to <1519> believe <4100> in <5228> Christ <5547> but <235> also <2532> to suffer <3958> for <5228> him <846>,
30since you are encountering <2192> the same <3634> conflict <73> that you saw <3708> me <1698> face and <2532> now <3568> hear <191> that I am facing.
