3So <3779> also <2532> we <2249>, when <3753> we were <1510> minors <3516>, were <1510> enslaved <1402> under <5259> the basic forces <4747> of the world <2889>.
4But <1161> when <3753> the appropriate <4138> time <5550> had come <2064>, God <2316> sent out <1821> his <846> Son <5207>, born <1096> of <1537> a woman <1135>, born <1096> under <5259> the law <3551>,
5to <2443> redeem <1805> those who were under <5259> the law <3551>, so that <2443> we may be adopted <5206> as sons with full rights <618>.

8Formerly <5119> when you did <1492> not <3756> know <1492> God <2316>, you were enslaved <1398> to beings that by nature <5449> are <1510> not <3361> gods <2316> at all.
9But <1161> now <3568> that you have come to know <1097> God <2316> (or rather <3123> to be known <1097> by <5259> God <2316>), how can <4459> you turn back <1994> again <3825> to <1909> the weak <772> and <2532> worthless <4434> basic forces <4747>? Do you want <2309> to be enslaved <1398> to them all over <509> again <3825>?
10You are observing religious <3906> days <2250> and <2532> months <3376> and <2532> seasons <2540> and <2532> years <1763>.
11I fear <5399> for you <5209> that my work <2872> for <1519> you <5209> may have been in vain <1500>.

16So then <5620>, have I become <1096> your <5216> enemy <2190> by telling <226> you <5213> the truth <226>?
17They court <2206> you <5209> eagerly <2206>, but <235> for no <3756> good <2573> purpose; they want <2309> to exclude <1576> you <5209>, so that <2443> you would seek <2206> them <846> eagerly <2206>.

23But <235> one, the son by <1537> the slave woman <3814>, was born <1080> by <2596> natural descent <4561>, while the other, the son by <1537> the free woman <1658>, was born through <1223> the promise <1860>.
24These things may be treated as an allegory <238>, for these women <3778> represent two <1417> covenants <1242>. One <1520> is <1510> from <575> Mount <3735> Sinai <4614> bearing children <1080> for <1519> slavery <1397>; this <3748> is <1510> Hagar <28>.
25Now <1161> Hagar <28> represents <1510> Mount <3735> Sinai <4614> in <1722> Arabia <688> and <1161> corresponds <4960> to the present <3568> Jerusalem <2419>, for <1063> she is in slavery <1398> with <3326> her <846> children <5043>.
26But <1161> the Jerusalem <2419> above <507> is <1510> free <1658>, and she is <1510> our <2257> mother <3384>.
27For <1063> it is written <1125>: “Rejoice <2165>, O barren woman <4723> who does <5088> not <3756> bear children <5088>; break forth <4486> and <2532> shout <994>, you who <5605> have no <3756> birth pains <5605>, because <3754> the children <5043> of the desolate <2048> woman are more <3123> numerous <4183> than those of the woman who has <2192> a husband <435>.”
28But you <2249>, brothers and sisters <80>, are <1510> children <5043> of the promise <1860> like <2596> Isaac <2464>.
29But <235> just as <5618> at that time <5119> the one born <1080> by <2596> natural descent <4561> persecuted <1377> the one born according to <2596> the Spirit <4151>, so <3779> it is now <3568>.
30But <235> what <5101> does the scripture <1124> say <3004>? “Throw out <1544> the slave woman <3814> and <2532> her <846> son <5207>, for <1063> the son <5207> of the slave woman <3814> will <2816> not <3361> share the inheritance <2816> with <3326> the son <5207>” of the free woman <1658>.
31Therefore <1352>, brothers and sisters <80>, we are <1510> not <3756> children <5043> of <3814> the slave woman <3814> but <235> of the free woman <1658>.
