Dual Panel1Now the Lord <03068> said <0559> to <0413> Abram <087>, “Go out <01980> from your country <0776>, your relatives <04138>, and your father’s <01> household <01004> to <0413> the land <0776> that <0834> I will show <07200> you.
2Then I will make <06213> you into a great nation <01471>, and I will bless <01288> you, and I will make <01431> your name <08034> great <01419>, so that you will exemplify divine blessing <01293>.
3I will bless <01288> those who bless <01288> you, but the one who treats <07043> you lightly <07043> I must curse <0779>, and all <03605> the families <04940> of the earth <0127> will bless <01288> one another by your name.”
4So Abram <087> left <01980>, just as <0834> the Lord <03068> had told <01696> him to do, and Lot <03876> went <01980> with <0854> him. (Now Abram <087> was 75 <07657> <02568> years <08141> old <08141> <01121> when he departed <03318> from Haran <02771>.)
5And Abram <087> took <03947> his wife <0802> Sarai <08297>, his nephew <0251> <01121> Lot <03876>, and all <03605> the possessions <07399> they had accumulated <07408> and the people <05315> they had acquired <06213> in Haran <02771>, and they left <01980> for <03318> the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>. They entered <0935> the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>.
6Abram <087> traveled through <05674> the land <0776> as far as <05704> the oak tree <0436> of Moreh <04176> at Shechem <07927>. (At that time <0227> the Canaanites <03669> were in the land <0776>.)
7The Lord <03068> appeared <07200> to <0413> Abram <087> and said <0559>, “To your descendants <02233> I will give <05414> this <02063> land <0776>.” So Abram built <01129> an altar <04196> there <08033> to the Lord <03068>, who had appeared <07200> to <0413> him.
8Then he moved <06275> from there <08033> to the hill country <02022> east <06924> of Bethel <01008> and pitched <05186> his tent <0168>, with Bethel <01008> on the west <03220> and Ai <05857> on the east <06924>. There <08033> he built <01129> an altar <04196> to the Lord <03068> and worshiped <07121> the Lord <03068> <08034>.
9Abram <087> continually <01980> journeyed <05265> by stages down <05265> to the Negev <05045>.
10There was <01961> a famine <07458> in the land <0776>, so Abram <087> went down <03381> to Egypt <04714> to stay <01481> for a while because <03588> the famine <07458> was severe <03515>.
11As <01961> he approached <0935> <07126> Egypt <04714>, he said <0559> to <0413> his wife <0802> Sarai <08297>, “Look <02009>, I know <03045> that <03588> you <0859> are a beautiful <03303> woman <04758> <0802>.
12When <03588> the Egyptians <04713> see <07200> you they will say <0559>, ‘This <02063> is his wife <0802>.’ Then they will kill <02026> me but will keep <02421> you alive <02421>.
13So tell <0559> them you <0859> are my sister <0269> so that <04616> it may go well <03190> for me because of <05668> you and my life <05315> will be spared <02421> on account <01558> of you.”
14When <01961> Abram <087> entered <0935> Egypt <04714>, the Egyptians <04713> saw <07200> that <03588> the woman <0802> was very <03966> beautiful <03303>.
15When Pharaoh’s <06547> officials <08269> saw <07200> her, they praised <01984> her to <0413> Pharaoh <06547>. So Abram’s wife <0802> was taken <03947> into the household <01004> of Pharaoh <06547>,
16and he did treat <03190> Abram <087> well <03190> on account of <05668> her. Abram received <01961> sheep <06629> and cattle <01241>, male donkeys <02543>, male servants <05650>, female servants <08198>, female donkeys <0860>, and camels <01581>.
17But the Lord <03068> struck <05060> Pharaoh <06547> and his household <01004> with severe <01419> diseases <05061> because <01697> <05921> of Sarai <08297>, Abram’s <087> wife <0802>.
18So Pharaoh <06547> summoned <07121> Abram <087> and said <0559>, “What <04100> is this <02063> you have done <06213> to me? Why <04100> didn’t <03808> you tell <05046> me that <03588> she <01931> was your wife <0802>?
19Why <04100> did you say <0559>, ‘She <01931> is my sister <0269>,’ so that I took <03947> her to be my wife <0802>? Here <02009> is your wife <0802>! Take <03947> her and go <01980>!”
20Pharaoh <06547> gave <06680> his men <0376> orders <06680> about <05921> Abram, and so they expelled <07971> him, along with his wife <0802> and all <03605> his possessions.
