2This is what <03541> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136> says <0559>: The enemy <0341> has spoken <0559> against <05921> you, saying “Aha <01889>!” and, “The ancient <05769> heights <01116> have become <01961> our property <04181>!”’
3So <03651> prophesy <05012> and say <0559>: ‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136> says <0559>: Surely because <03282> <03282> they have made <08074> you desolate <08074> and crushed <07602> you from all directions <05439>, so that you have become <01961> the property <04181> of the rest <07611> of the nations <01471>, and have become <05927> the subject <05921> of gossip <03956> <08193> and slander <01681> among the people <05971>,
4therefore <03651>, O mountains <02022> of Israel <03478>, hear <08085> the word <01697> of the sovereign <03068> Lord <0136>: This is what <03541> the sovereign <03068> Lord <0136> says <0559> to the mountains <02022> and hills <01389>, the ravines <0650> and valleys <01516>, and to the desolate <08076> ruins <02723> and the abandoned <05800> cities <05892> that <0834> have become <01961> prey <0957> and an object of derision <03933> to the rest <07611> of the nations <01471> round about <05439>–
5therefore <03651> this is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03068> says <0559>: Surely <0518> I have spoken <01696> in the fire <0784> of my zeal <07068> against <05921> the rest <07611> of the nations <01471>, and against <05921> all <03605> Edom <0123>, who <0834> with great joy <08057> and utter <07589> contempt <05315> have made <05414> my land <0776> their <01992> property <04181> and prey <0957>, because <04616> of its pasture <04054>.’
6“Therefore <03651> prophesy <05012> concerning <05921> the land <0127> of Israel <03478>, and say <0559> to the mountains <02022> and hills <01389>, the ravines <0650> and valleys <01516>, ‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: Look <02005>, I have spoken <01696> in my zeal <07068> and in my anger <02534>, because <03282> you have endured <05375> the insults <03639> of the nations <01471>.
7So <03651> this is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: I <0589> vow <03027> <05375> that <03808> <0518> the nations <01471> around <05439> you will endure <05375> insults <03639> as well.
8“‘But you <0859>, mountains <02022> of Israel <03478>, will grow <05414> your branches <06057>, and bear <05375> your fruit <06529> for my people <05971> Israel <03478>; for <03588> they will arrive <0935> soon.
9For <03588> indeed <02005>, I am on <0413> your side; I will turn <06437> to <0413> you, and you will be plowed <05647> and planted <02232>.
10I will multiply <07235> your people <0120>– the whole <03605> house <01004> of Israel <03478>, all <03605> of it. The cities <05892> will be populated <03427> and the ruins <02723> rebuilt <01129>.
11I will increase <07235> the number of people <0120> and animals <0929> on <05921> you; they will increase <07235> and be fruitful <06509>. I will cause you to be inhabited <03427> as in ancient times <06927>, and will do more good <02895> for you than at the beginning <07221> of your history. Then you will know <03045> that <03588> I <0589> am the Lord <03068>.
12I will lead <01980> people <0120>, my people <05971> Israel <03478>, across <05921> you; they will possess <03423> you and you will become <01961> their inheritance <05159>. No <03808> longer <05750> <03254> will you bereave <07921> them of <07921> their children <07921>.
13“‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: Because <03282> they are saying <0559> to you, “You <0859> are a devourer <0398> of men <0120>, and bereave <07921> your nation <01471> of children <07921>,”
14therefore <03651> you will no <03808> longer <05750> devour <0398> people <0120> and no <03808> longer <05750> bereave <03782> your nation <01471> of children, declares <05002> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136>.
15I will no <03808> longer <05750> subject <08085> you to the nations <01471>’ insults <02781>; no <03808> longer <05750> will you bear <05375> the shame <03639> of the peoples <05971>, and no <03808> longer <05750> will you bereave <03782> your nation <01471>, declares <05002> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136>.’”
16The word <01697> of the Lord <03068> came <01961> to <0413> me:
17“Son <01121> of man <0120>, when the house <01004> of Israel <03478> was living <03427> on <05921> their own land <0127>, they defiled <02930> it by their behavior <01870> and their deeds <05949>. In my sight their behavior <01870> was like the uncleanness <02932> of a woman having her monthly period <05079>.
18So I poured <08210> my anger <02534> on <05921> them because <05921> of the blood <01818> they shed <08210> on <05921> the land <0776> and because of the idols <01544> with which they defiled <02930> it.
19I scattered <06327> them among the nations <01471>; they were dispersed <02219> throughout foreign countries <0776>. In accordance with their behavior <01870> and their deeds <05949> I judged <08199> them.
20But when they arrived <0935> in <0413> the nations <01471> where <0834> they went <0935>, they profaned <02490> my holy <06944> name <08034>. It was said <0559> of them, ‘These <0428> are the people <05971> of the Lord <03068>, yet they have departed <03318> from his land <0776>.’
21I was concerned <02550> for <05921> my holy <06944> reputation <08034> which <0834> the house <01004> of Israel <03478> profaned <02490> among the nations <01471> where <08033> <0834> they went <0935>.
22“Therefore <03651> say <0559> to the house <01004> of Israel <03478>, ‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: It is not <03808> for your sake <04616> that I <0589> am about to act <06213>, O house <01004> of Israel <03478>, but <0518> for the sake <03588> of my holy <06944> reputation <08034> which <0834> you profaned <02490> among the nations <01471> where <0834> you went <0935>.
23I will magnify <06942> my great <01419> name <08034> that has been profaned <02490> among the nations <01471>, that <0834> you have profaned <02490> among <08432> them. The nations <01471> will know <03045> that <03588> I <0589> am the Lord <03068>, declares <05002> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136>, when I magnify <06942> myself among you in their sight <05869>.
24“‘I will take <03947> you from the nations <01471> and gather <06908> you from all <03605> the countries <0776>; then I will bring <0935> you to <0413> your land <0127>.
25I will sprinkle <02236> you with <05921> pure <02889> water <04325> and you will be clean <02891> from all <03605> your impurities <02932>. I will purify <02891> you from all <03605> your idols <01544>.
26I will give <05414> you a new <02319> heart <03820>, and I will put <05414> a new <02319> spirit <07307> within <07130> you. I will remove <05493> the heart <03820> of stone <068> from your body <01320> and give <05414> you a heart <03820> of flesh <01320>.
27I will put <05414> my Spirit <07307> within <07130> you; I will take the initiative <06213> and you will obey <01980> my statutes <02706> and carefully <08104> observe <06213> my regulations <04941>.
28Then you will live <03427> in the land <0776> I gave <05414> to your fathers <01>; you will be <01961> my people <05971>, and I <0595> will be <01961> your God <0430>.
29I will save <03467> you from all <03605> your uncleanness <02932>. I will call <07121> for <0413> the grain <01715> and multiply <07235> it; I will not <03808> bring <05414> a famine <07458> on <05921> you.
30I will multiply <07235> the fruit <06529> of the trees <06086> and the produce <08570> of the fields <07704>, so that <04616> you will never <03808> again <05750> suffer <03947> the disgrace <02781> of famine <07458> among the nations <01471>.
31Then you will remember <02142> your evil <07451> behavior <01870> and your deeds <04611> which <0834> were not <03808> good <02896>; you will loathe <06962> yourselves on <05921> account <06440> of your sins <05771> and your abominable deeds <08441>.
32Understand <03045> that it is not <03808> for your sake <04616> I <0589> am about to act <06213>, declares <05002> the sovereign <03069> Lord <0136>. Be ashamed <0954> and embarrassed <03637> by your behavior <01870>, O house <01004> of Israel <03478>.
33“‘This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: In the day <03117> I cleanse <02891> you from all <03605> your sins <05771>, I will populate <03427> the cities <05892> and the ruins <02723> will be rebuilt <01129>.
34The desolate <08074> land <0776> will be plowed <05647>, instead <08478> of being <01961> desolate <08077> in the sight <05869> of everyone <03605> who passes by <05674>.
35They will say <0559>, “This <01977> desolate <08074> land <0776> has become <01961> like the garden <01588> of Eden <05731>; the ruined <02720>, desolate <08074>, and destroyed <02040> cities <05892> are now fortified <01219> and inhabited <03427>.”
36Then the nations <01471> which <0834> remain <07604> around <05439> you will know <03045> that <03588> I <0589>, the Lord <03068>, have rebuilt <01129> the ruins <02040> and replanted <05193> what was desolate <08074>. I <0589>, the Lord <03068>, have spoken <01696>– and I will do <06213> it!’
37“This is what <03541> the sovereign <0136> Lord <03069> says <0559>: I will allow the house <01004> of Israel <03478> to ask <01875> me to do <06213> this <02063> for them: I will multiply <07235> their people <0120> like sheep <06629>.
38Like the sheep <06629> for offerings <06944>, like the sheep <06629> of Jerusalem <03389> during her appointed feasts <04150>, so <03651> will the ruined <02720> cities <05892> be filled <04392> with flocks <06629> of people <0120>. Then they will know <03045> that <03588> I <0589> am the Lord <03068>.”
