Now<1161> as to the times<5550> and the epochs<2540>, brethren<80>, you have<2192> no<3756> need<5532> of anything to be written<1125> to you.
For you yourselves<846> know<3609> full<199> well<199> that the day<2250> of the Lord<2962> will come<2064> just<5613> like<5613> a thief<2812> in the night<3571>.
While<3752> they are saying<3004>, "Peace<1515> and safety<803>!" then<5119> destruction<3639> will come<2186> upon them suddenly<160> like<5618> labor<5604> pains<5604> upon a woman with child<1722><1064>, and they will not escape<1628>.
But you, brethren<80>, are not in darkness<4655>, that the day<2250> would overtake<2638> you like<5613> a thief<2812>;
for you are all<3956> sons<5207> of light<5457> and sons<5207> of day<2250>. We are not of night<3571> nor<3761> of darkness<4655>;
so<686> then<686> let us not sleep<2518> as others<3062> do, but let us be alert<1127> and sober<3525>.
For those<3588> who sleep<2518> do<2518> their sleeping<2518> at night<3571>, and those<3588> who get<3182> drunk<3182> get<3184> drunk<3184> at night<3571>.
But since we are of the day<2250>, let us be sober<3525>, having put<1746> on the breastplate<2382> of faith<4102> and love<26>, and as a helmet<4030>, the hope<1680> of salvation<4991>.
For God<2316> has not destined<5087> us for wrath<3709>, but for obtaining<4047> salvation<4991> through<1223> our Lord<2962> Jesus<2424> Christ<5547>,
who died<599> for us, so<2443> that whether<1535> we are awake<1127> or<1535> asleep<2518>, we will live<2198> together<260> with Him.
Therefore<1352> encourage<3870> one<240> another<240> and build<3618> up one<1520> another<1520>, just<2531> as you also<2532> are doing<4160>.
But we request<2065> of you, brethren<80>, that you appreciate<3609> those<3588> who diligently<2872> labor<2872> among<1722> you, and have<4291> charge<4291> over<4291> you in the Lord<2962> and give<3560> you instruction<3560>,
and that you esteem<2233> them very<5239> highly<5239> in love<26> because<1223> of their work<2041>. Live<1514> in peace<1514> with one<1438> another<1438>.
We urge<3870> you, brethren<80>, admonish<3560> the unruly<813>, encourage<3888> the fainthearted<3642>, help<472> the weak<772>, be patient<3114> with everyone<3956>.
See<3708> that no<3361> one<5100> repays<591> another<5100> with evil<2556> for evil<2556>, but always<3842> seek<1377> after<1377> that which<18> is good<18> for one<240> another<240> and for all<3956> people<3956>.
pray<4336> without<89> ceasing<89>;
in everything<3956> give<2168> thanks<2168>; for this<3778> is God's<2316> will<2307> for you in Christ<5547> Jesus<2424>.
Do not quench<4570> the Spirit<4151>;
do not despise<1848> prophetic<4394> utterances<4394>.
But examine<1381> everything<3956> carefully; hold<2722> fast<2722> to that which<2570> is good<2570>;
abstain<568> from every<3956> form<1491> of evil<4190>.
Now<1161> may the God<2316> of peace<1515> Himself<846> sanctify<37> you entirely<3651>; and may your spirit<4151> and soul<5590> and body<4983> be preserved<5083> complete<3648>, without<274> blame<274> at the coming<3952> of our Lord<2962> Jesus<2424> Christ<5547>.
Faithful<4103> is He who calls<2564> you, and He also<2532> will bring<4160> it to pass<4160>.
Brethren<80>, pray<4336> for us.
Greet<782> all<3956> the brethren<80> with a holy<40> kiss<5370>.
I adjure<1775> you by the Lord<2962> to have this<3588> letter<1992> read<314> to all<3956> the brethren<80>.
The grace<5485> of our Lord<2962> Jesus<2424> Christ<5547> be with you.
