3They will do <4160> these things <5023> because <3754> they have <1097> not <3756> known <1097> the Father <3962> or <3761> me <1691>.
4But <235> I have told <2980> you <5213> these things <5023> so that <2443> when <3752> their <846> time <5610> comes <2064>, you will remember <3421> that <3754> I <1473> told <2036> you <5213> about them <846>. “I did <2036> not <3756> tell <2036> you <5213> these things <5023> from <1537> the beginning <746> because <3754> I was <1510> with <3326> you <5216>.
5But <1161> now <3568> I am going <5217> to <4314> the one who sent <3992> me <3165>, and <2532> not one <3762> of <1537> you <5216> is asking <2065> me <3165>, ‘Where <4226> are you going <5217>?’
6Instead <235> your <5216> hearts <2588> are filled <4137> with sadness <3077> because <3754> I have said <2980> these things <5023> to you <5213>.
7But <235> I <1473> tell <3004> you <5213> the truth <225>, it is <4851> to your <5213> advantage <4851> that <2443> I <1473> am going away <565>. For <1063> if <1437> I do <565> not <3361> go away <565>, the Advocate <3875> will <2064> not <3756> <3361> come <2064> to <4314> you <5209>, but <1161> if <1437> I go <4198>, I will send <3992> him <846> to <4314> you <5209>.
8And <2532> when <2064> he comes <2064>, he will prove <1651> the world <2889> wrong <1651> concerning <4012> sin <266> and <2532> righteousness <1343> and <2532> judgment <2920>–
9concerning <4012> sin <266>, because <3754> they do <4100> not <3756> believe <4100> in <1519> me <1691>;
10concerning <4012> righteousness <1343>, because <3754> I am going <5217> to <4314> the Father <3962> and <2532> you will see <2334> me <3165> no longer <3765>;
11and <1161> concerning <4012> judgment <2920>, because <3754> the ruler <758> of this <5127> world <2889> has been condemned <2919>.
12“I have <2192> many <4183> more <2089> things <4183> to say <3004> to you <5213>, but <235> you cannot <1410> cannot <3756> bear <941> them now <737>.
13But <1161> when <3752> he <2064>, the Spirit <4151> of truth <225>, comes <2064>, he will guide <3594> you <5209> into <1519> all <3956> truth <225>. For <1063> he will <2980> not <3756> speak <2980> on <575> his own authority <1438>, but <235> will speak <2980> whatever <3745> he hears <191>, and <2532> will tell <312> you <5213> what is to come <2064>.

15Everything <3956> <3745> that the Father <3962> has <2192> is <1510> mine <1699>; that <5124> is why I said <2036> the Spirit will receive <2983> from <1537> me what is mine <1700> and <2532> will tell <312> it to you <5213>.
16In a little while <3397> you will see <2334> me <3165> no longer <3765>; again <3825> after a little while <3397>, you will see <3700> me <3165>.”
17Then <3767> some of <1537> his <846> disciples <3101> said <3004> to <4314> one another <240>, “What <5101> is <1510> the meaning <1510> of what <3739> he is saying <3004>, ‘In a little while <3397> you will <2334> not <3756> see <2334> me <3165>; again <3825> after a little while <3397>, you will see <3700> me <3165>,’ and <2532>, ‘because <3754> I am going <5217> to <4314> the Father <3962>’?”
18So <3767> they kept on repeating <3004>, “What <5101> is <1510> the meaning of <5124> what <3739> he says <3004>, ‘In a little while <3397>’? We <1492> do not <3756> understand <1492> what <5101> he is talking <2980> about.”
19Jesus <2424> could see <1097> that <3754> they wanted <2309> to ask <2065> him <846> about these things, so <2532> he said <2036> to them <846>, “Are you asking <2212> each <3326> other <240> about <4012> this <5127>– that <3754> I said <2036>, ‘In a little while <3397> you will <2334> not <3756> see <2334> me <3165>; again <3825> after a little while <3397>, you will see <3700> me <3165>’?
20I tell <3004> you <5213> the solemn truth <281> <281>, you will weep <2799> and <2532> wail <2354>, but <1161> the world <2889> will rejoice <5463>; you <5210> will be sad <3076>, but <235> your <5216> sadness <3077> will turn <1096> into <1519> joy <5479>.
21When <3752> a woman <1135> gives birth <5088>, she has <2192> distress <3077> because <3754> her <846> time <5610> has come <2064>, but <1161> when <3752> her child <3813> is born <1080>, she <3421> no longer <3765> remembers <3421> the suffering <2347> because of <1223> her joy <5479> that <3754> a human being <444> has been born <1080> into <1519> the world <2889>.
22So <2532> also <3767> you <5210> have <2192> sorrow <3077> now <3568>, but <1161> I will see <3700> you <5209> again <3825>, and <2532> your <5216> hearts <2588> will rejoice <5463>, and <2532> no one <3762> will take <142> your <5216> joy <5479> away <142> from <575> you <5216>.
23At <1722> that <1565> time <2250> you will ask <2065> me <1691> nothing <3756> <3762>. I tell <3004> you <5213> the solemn truth <281> <281>, whatever <302> <5100> you ask <154> the Father <3962> in <1722> my <3450> name <3686> he will give <1325> you <5213>.
24Until <2193> now <737> you have <154> not <3756> asked for <154> anything <3762> in <1722> my <3450> name <3686>. Ask <154> and <2532> you will receive <2983> it, so that <2443> your <5216> joy <5479> may be <1510> complete <4137>.
25“I have told <2980> you <5213> these things <5023> in <1722> obscure figures of speech <3942>; a time <5610> is coming <2064> when <3753> I will <2980> no longer <3765> speak <2980> to you <5213> in <1722> obscure figures <3942>, but <235> will tell <518> you <5213> plainly <3954> about <4012> the Father <3962>.
26At <1722> that <1565> time <2250> you will ask <154> in <1722> my <3450> name <3686>, and <2532> I do <3004> not <3756> say <3004> that <3754> I <1473> will ask <2065> the Father <3962> on your behalf <4012> <5216>.
27For <1063> the Father <3962> himself <846> loves <5368> you <5209>, because <3754> you <5210> have loved <5368> me <1691> and <2532> have believed <4100> that <3754> I <1473> came <1831> from <3844> God <3962>.
28I came <1831> from <1537> the Father <3962> and <2532> entered <2064> into <1519> the world <2889>, but in turn <3825>, I am leaving <863> the world <2889> and <2532> going back <4198> to <4314> the Father <3962>.”
29His <846> disciples <3101> said <3004>, “Look <1492>, now <3568> you are speaking <2980> plainly <3954> and <2532> not <3762> in obscure figures of speech <3942>!
30Now <3568> we know <1492> that <3754> you know <1492> everything <3956> and <2532> do <2192> not <3756> need <2192> need <5532> anyone <5100> to <2443> ask <2065> you <4571> anything. Because of this <5129> we believe <4100> that <3754> you have come <1831> from <575> God <2316>.”
31Jesus <2424> replied <611>, “Do you <4100> now <737> believe <4100>?
32Look <2400>, a time <5610> is coming <2064>– and <2532> has come <2064>– when you will be scattered <4650>, each one <1538> to <1519> his own home <2398>, and I <2504> will be left <863> alone <3441>. Yet <2532> I am <1510> not <3756> alone <3441>, because <3754> my Father <3962> is <1510> with <3326> me <1700>.
33I have told <2980> you <5213> these things <5023> so that <2443> in <1722> me <1698> you may have <2192> peace <1515>. In <1722> the world <2889> you have <2192> trouble and suffering <2347>, but <235> take courage <2293>– I <1473> have conquered <3528> the world <2889>.”
