2that you not be quickly<5030> shaken<4531> from your composure<3563> or<3366> be disturbed<2360> either<3383> by a spirit<4151> or<3383> a message<3056> or<3383> a letter<1992> as if<5613> from us, to the effect<5613> that the day<2250> of the Lord<2962> has come<1764>.
3Let no<3361> one<5100> in any<3367> way<5158> deceive<1818> you, for it will not come unless<1437><3361> the apostasy<646> comes<2064> first<4413>, and the man<444> of lawlessness<458> is revealed<601>, the son<5207> of destruction<684>,
4who opposes<480> and exalts<5229> himself above<1909> every<3956> so-called<3004> god<2316> or<2228> object<4574> of worship<4574>, so<5620> that he takes<2523> his seat<2523> in the temple<3485> of God<2316>, displaying<584> himself<1438> as being<1510> God<2316>.
5Do you not remember<3421> that while I was still<2089> with you, I was telling<3004> you these<3778> things<3778>?
6And you know<3609> what restrains<2722> him now<3568>, so<1519> that in his time<2540> he will be revealed<601>.
7For the mystery<3466> of lawlessness<458> is already<2235> at work<1754>; only<3440> he who now<737> restrains<2722> will do so until<2193> he is taken<1096> out of the way<3319>.
8Then<5119> that lawless<459> one<459> will be revealed<601> whom<3739> the Lord<2962> will slay<337> with the breath<4151> of His mouth<4750> and bring<2673> to an end<2673> by the appearance<2015> of His coming<3952>;
9that is, the one whose<3739> coming<3952> is in accord<2596> with the activity<1753> of Satan<4567>, with all<3956> power<1411> and signs<4592> and false<5579> wonders<5059>,
10and with all<3956> the deception<539> of wickedness<93> for those<3588> who perish<622>, because<473><3739> they did not receive<1209> the love<26> of the truth<225> so<1519> as to be saved<4982>.
11For this<3778> reason<1223> God<2316> will send<3992> upon them a deluding<4106> influence<1753> so<1519> that they will believe<4100> what<5579> is false<5579>,
12in order<2443> that they all<3956> may be judged<2919> who did not believe<4100> the truth<225>, but took<2106> pleasure<2106> in wickedness<93>.
13But we should<3784> always<3842> give<2168> thanks<2168> to God<2316> for you, brethren<80> beloved<25> by the Lord<2962>, because<3754> God<2316> has chosen<138> you from the beginning<746> for salvation<4991> through<1722> sanctification<38> by the Spirit<4151> and faith<4102> in the truth<225>.
14It was for this<3739> He called<2564> you through<1223> our gospel<2098>, that you may gain<4047> the glory<1391> of our Lord<2962> Jesus<2424> Christ<5547>.
15So<686> then<686>, brethren<80>, stand<4739> firm<4739> and hold<2902> to the traditions<3862> which<3739> you were taught<1321>, whether<1535> by word<3056> of mouth or<1535> by letter<1992> from us.
16Now<1161> may our Lord<2962> Jesus<2424> Christ<5547> Himself<846> and God<2316> our Father<3962>, who has loved<25> us and given<1325> us eternal<166> comfort<3874> and good<18> hope<1680> by grace<5485>,
17comfort<3870> and strengthen<4741> your hearts<2588> in every<3956> good<18> work<2041> and word<3056>.
