 <<  Markus 5 >>

They came<2064> to the other<4008> side<4008> of the sea<2281>, into the country<5561> of the Gerasenes<1086>.

When He got<1831> out of the boat<4143>, immediately<2117> a man<444> from the tombs<3419> with an unclean<169> spirit<4151> met<5221> Him,

and he had<2192> his dwelling<2731> among<1722> the tombs<3418>. And no<3761><3762> one<3762> was able<1410> to bind<1210> him anymore<3765>, even<3761> with a chain<254>;

because<1223> he had often<4178> been bound<1210> with shackles<3976> and chains<254>, and the chains<254> had been torn<1288> apart<1288> by him and the shackles<3976> broken<4937> in pieces<4937>, and no<3762> one<3762> was strong<2480> enough<2480> to subdue<1150> him.

Constantly<1223>, night<3571> and day<2250>, he was screaming<2896> among<1722> the tombs<3418> and in the mountains<3735>, and gashing<2629> himself<1438> with stones<3037>.

Seeing<3708> Jesus<2424> from a distance<3113>, he ran<5143> up and bowed<4352> down<4352> before<4352> Him;

and shouting<2896> with a loud<3173> voice<5456>, he *said<3004>, "What<5101> business do we have with each other, Jesus<2424>, Son<5207> of the Most<5310> High<5310> God<2316>? I implore<3726> You by God<2316>, do not torment<928> me!"

For He had been saying<3004> to him, "Come<1831> out of the man<444>, you unclean<169> spirit<4151>!"

And He was asking<1905> him, "What<5101> is your name<3686>?" And he *said<3004> to Him, "My name<3686> is Legion<3003>; for we are many<4183>."

And he began to implore<3870> Him earnestly<4183> not to send<649> them out of the country<5561>.

Now<1161> there was a large<3173> herd<34> of swine<5519> feeding<1006> nearby<1563> on the mountain<3735>.

The demons implored<3870> Him, saying<3004>, "Send<3992> us into the swine<5519> so<2443> that we may enter<1525> them."

Jesus gave<2010> them permission<2010>. And coming<1831> out, the unclean<169> spirits<4151> entered<1525> the swine<5519>; and the herd<34> rushed<3729> down<2596> the steep<2911> bank<2911> into the sea<2281>, about<5613> two<1367> thousand<1367> of them; and they were drowned<4155> in the sea<2281>.

Their herdsmen<1006> ran<5343> away<5343> and reported<518> it in the city<4172> and in the country<68>. And the people came<2064> to see<3708> what<5101> it was that had happened<1096>.

They *came<2064> to Jesus<2424> and *observed<2334> the man who had been demon-possessed<1139> sitting<2521> down<2521>, clothed<2439> and in his right<4993> mind<4993>, the very man who had had<2192> the "legion<3003>"; and they became frightened<5399>.

Those<3588> who had seen<3708> it described<1334> to them how<4459> it had happened<1096> to the demon-possessed<1139> man, and all about<4012> the swine<5519>.

And they began<757> to implore<3870> Him to leave<565> their region<3725>.

As He was getting<1684> into the boat<4143>, the man who had been demon-possessed<1139> was imploring<3870> Him that he might accompany<3326><1510> Him.

And He did not let<863> him, but He *said<3004> to him, "Go<5217> home<3624> to your people<4674> and report<518> to them what<3745> great<3745> things<3745> the Lord<2962> has done<4160> for you, and how He had<1653> mercy<1653> on you."

And he went<565> away<565> and began<757> to proclaim<2784> in Decapolis<1179> what<3745> great<3745> things<3745> Jesus<2424> had done<4160> for him; and everyone<3956> was amazed<2296>.

When Jesus<2424> had crossed<1276> over<1276> again<3825> in the boat<4143> to the other<4008> side<4008>, a large<4183> crowd<3793> gathered<4863> around<1909> Him; and so He stayed<1510> by the seashore<2281>.

One<1520> of the synagogue<752> officials<752> named<3686> Jairus<2383> *came<2064> up, and on seeing<3708> Him, *fell<4098> at His feet<4228>

and *implored<3870> Him earnestly<4183>, saying<3004>, "My little<2365> daughter<2365> is at the point<2079> of death<2079>; please come<2064> and lay<2007> Your hands<5495> on her, so<2443> that she will get<4982> well<4982> and live<2198>."

And He went<565> off<565> with him; and a large<4183> crowd<3793> was following<190> Him and pressing<4918> in on Him.

A woman<1135> who had had<1510> a hemorrhage<4511><129> for twelve<1427> years<2094>,

and had endured<3958> much<4183> at the hands<5259> of many<4183> physicians<2395>, and had spent<1159> all<3956> that she had<3844> and was not helped<5623> at all<3367>, but rather<3123> had grown<2064> worse<5501>--

after hearing<191> about<4012> Jesus<2424>, she came<2064> up in the crowd<3793> behind<3693> Him and touched<681> His cloak<2440>.

For she thought<3004>, "If<1437> I just<2579> touch<681> His garments<2440>, I will get<4982> well."

Immediately<2117> the flow<4077> of her blood<129> was dried<3583> up; and she felt<1097> in her body<4983> that she was healed<2390> of her affliction<3148>.

Immediately<2117> Jesus<2424>, perceiving<1921> in Himself<1438> that the power<1411> proceeding from Him had gone<1831> forth<1831>, turned<1994> around<1994> in the crowd<3793> and said<3004>, "Who<5101> touched<681> My garments<2440>?"

And His disciples<3101> said<3004> to Him, "You see<991> the crowd<3793> pressing<4918> in on You, and You say<3004>, 'Who<5101> touched<681> Me?'"

And He looked<4017> around<4017> to see<3708> the woman who had done<4160> this<3778>.

But the woman<1135> fearing<5399> and trembling<5141>, aware<3609> of what<3739> had happened<1096> to her, came<2064> and fell<4363> down<4363> before<4363> Him and told<3004> Him the whole<3956> truth<225>.

And He said<3004> to her, "Daughter<2364>, your faith<4102> has made<4982> you well<4982>; go<5217> in peace<1515> and be healed<5199> of your affliction<3148>."

While He was still<2089> speaking<2980>, they *came<2064> from the house of the synagogue<752> official<752>, saying<3004>, "Your daughter<2364> has died<599>; why<5101> trouble<4660> the Teacher<1320> anymore<2089>?"

But Jesus<2424>, overhearing<3878> what<3588><3056> was being spoken<2980>, *said<3004> to the synagogue<752> official<752>, "Do not be afraid<5399> any longer, only<3440> believe<4100>."

And He allowed<863> no<3756><3762> one<3762> to accompany<4870> Him, except<1508> Peter<4074> and James<2385> and John<2491> the brother<80> of James<2385>.

They *came<2064> to the house<3624> of the synagogue<752> official<752>; and He *saw<2335> a commotion<2351>, and people loudly<4183> weeping<2799> and wailing<214>.

And entering<1525> in, He *said<3004> to them, "Why<5101> make<2350> a commotion<2350> and weep<2799>? The child<3813> has not died<599>, but is asleep<2518>."

They began laughing<2606> at Him. But putting<1544> them all<3956> out, He *took<3880> along<3880> the child's<3813> father<3962> and mother<3384> and His own companions<3588><3326>, and *entered<1531> the room where<3699> the child<3813> was.

Taking<2902> the child<3813> by the hand<5495>, He *said<3004> to her, "Talitha<5008> kum<2891>!" (which<3739> translated<3177> means<1510>, "Little<2877> girl<2877>, I say<3004> to you, get<1453> up!").

Immediately<2117> the girl<2877> got<450> up and began to walk<4043>, for she was twelve<1427> years<2094> old. And immediately<2117> they were completely<1611><3173> astounded<1839>.

And He gave<1291> them strict<4183> orders<1291> that no<3367> one<3367> should know<1097> about this<3778>, and He said<3004> that something should be given<1325> her to eat<2068>.
