Yohanes 4 (NASB)

1Therefore<3767> when<5613> the Lord<2962> knew<1097> that the Pharisees<5330> had heard<191> that Jesus<2424> was making<4160> and baptizing<907> more<4183> disciples<3101> than<2228> John<2491>

2(although<2544> Jesus<2424> Himself<846> was not baptizing<907>, but His disciples<3101> were),

3He left<863> Judea<2453> and went<565> away<565> again<3825> into Galilee<1056>.

4And He had<1163> to pass<1330> through<1330><1223> Samaria<4540>.

5So<3767> He *came<2064> to a city<4172> of Samaria<4540> called<3004> Sychar<4965>, near<4139> the parcel<5564> of ground<5564> that Jacob<2384> gave<1325> to his son<5207> Joseph<2501>;

6and Jacob's<2384> well<4077> was there<1563>. So<3767> Jesus<2424>, being wearied<2872> from His journey<3597>, was sitting<2516> thus<3779> by the well<4077>. It was about<5613> the sixth<1623> hour<5610>.

7There *came<2064> a woman<1135> of Samaria<4540> to draw<501> water<5204>. Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to her, "Give<1325> Me a drink<4095>."

8For His disciples<3101> had gone<565> away<565> into the city<4172> to buy<59> food<5160>.

9Therefore<3767> the Samaritan<4542> woman<1135> *said<3004> to Him, "How<4459> is it that You, being<1510> a Jew<2453>, ask<154> me for a drink<4095> since I am<1510> a Samaritan<4542> woman<1135>?" (For Jews<2453> have<4798> no<3756> dealings<4798> with Samaritans<4541>.)

10Jesus<2424> answered<611> and said<3004> to her, "If<1487> you knew<3609> the gift<1431> of God<2316>, and who<5101> it is who says<3004> to you, 'Give<1325> Me a drink<4095>,' you would have asked<154> Him, and He would have given<1325> you living<2198> water<5204>."

11She *said<3004> to Him, "Sir<2962>, You have<2192> nothing<3777> to draw<502> with and the well<5421> is deep<901>; where<4159> then<3767> do You get<2192> that living<2198> water?

12"You are not greater<3173> than our father<3962> Jacob<2384>, are You, who<3739> gave<1325> us the well<5421>, and drank<4095> of it himself<846> and his sons<5207> and his cattle<2353>?"

13Jesus<2424> answered<611> and said<3004> to her, "Everyone<3956> who drinks<4095> of this<3778> water<5204> will thirst<1372> again<3825>;

14but whoever<3739><302> drinks<4095> of the water<5204> that I will give<1325> him shall never<3756><3361> thirst<1372>; but the water<5204> that I will give<1325> him will become<1096> in him a well<4077> of water<5204> springing<242> up to eternal<166> life<2222>."

15The woman<1135> *said<3004> to Him, "Sir<2962>, give<1325> me this<3778> water<5204>, so<2443> I will not be thirsty<1372> nor<3366> come<1330> all the way here<1759> to draw<501>."

16He *said<3004> to her, "Go<5217>, call<5455> your husband<435> and come<2064> here<1759>."

17The woman<1135> answered<611> and said<3004>, "I have<2192> no<3756> husband<435>." Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to her, "You have correctly<2573> said<3004>, 'I have<2192> no<3756> husband<435>';

18for you have<2192> had<2192> five<4002> husbands<435>, and the one whom<3739> you now<3568> have<2192> is not your husband<435>; this<3778> you have said<3004> truly<227>."

19The woman<1135> *said<3004> to Him, "Sir<2962>, I perceive<2334> that You are a prophet<4396>.

20"Our fathers<3962> worshiped<4352> in this<3778> mountain<3735>, and you people say<3004> that in Jerusalem<2414> is the place<5117> where<3699> men ought<1163> to worship<4352>."

21Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to her, "Woman<1135>, believe<4100> Me, an hour<5610> is coming<2064> when<3753> neither<3777> in this<3778> mountain<3735> nor<3777> in Jerusalem<2414> will you worship<4352> the Father<3962>.

22"You worship<4352> what<3739> you do not know<3609>; we worship<4352> what<3739> we know<3609>, for salvation<4991> is from the Jews<2453>.

23"But an hour<5610> is coming<2064>, and now<3568> is, when<3753> the true<228> worshipers<4353> will worship<4352> the Father<3962> in spirit<4151> and truth<225>; for such<5108> people<5108> the Father<3962> seeks<2212> to be His worshipers<4352>.

24"God<2316> is spirit<4151>, and those<3588> who worship<4352> Him must<1163> worship<4352> in spirit<4151> and truth<225>."

25The woman<1135> *said<3004> to Him, "I know<3609> that Messiah<3323> is coming<2064> (He who is called<3004> Christ<5547>); when<3752> that One<1565> comes<2064>, He will declare<312> all<537> things<537> to us."

26Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to her, "I who speak<2980> to you am<1510> He."

27At this<3778> point<1909> His disciples<3101> came<2064>, and they were amazed<2296> that He had been speaking<2980> with a woman<1135>, yet<3305> no<3762> one<3762> said<3004>, "What<5101> do You seek<2212>?" or<2228>, "Why<5101> do You speak<2980> with her?"

28So<3767> the woman<1135> left<863> her waterpot<5201>, and went<565> into the city<4172> and *said<3004> to the men<444>,

29"Come<1205>, see<3708> a man<444> who<3739> told<3004> me all<3956> the things<3956> that I have done<4160>; this<3778> is not the Christ<5547>, is it?"

30They went<1831> out of the city<4172>, and were coming<2064> to Him.

31Meanwhile<3342> the disciples<3101> were urging<2065> Him, saying<3004>, "Rabbi<4461>, eat<2068>."

32But He said<3004> to them, "I have<2192> food<1035> to eat<2068> that you do not know<3609> about<3609>."

33So<3767> the disciples<3101> were saying<3004> to one<240> another<240>, "No<3361> one<5100> brought<5342> Him anything to eat<2068>, did he?"

34Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to them, "My food<1033> is to do<4160> the will<2307> of Him who sent<3992> Me and to accomplish<5048> His work<2041>.

35"Do you not say<3004>, 'There are yet<2089> four<5072> months<5072>, and then comes<2064> the harvest<2326>'? Behold<2400>, I say<3004> to you, lift<1869> up your eyes<3788> and look<2300> on the fields<5561>, that they are white<3022> for harvest<2326>.

36"Already<2235> he who reaps<2325> is receiving<2983> wages<3408> and is gathering<4863> fruit<2590> for life<2222> eternal<166>; so<2443> that he who sows<4687> and he who reaps<2325> may rejoice<5463> together<3674>.

37"For in this<3778> case the saying<3056> is true<228>, 'One<243> sows<4687> and another<243> reaps<2325>.'

38"I sent<649> you to reap<2325> that for which<3739> you have not labored<2872>; others<243> have labored<2872> and you have entered<1525> into their labor<2873>."

39From that city<4172> many<4183> of the Samaritans<4541> believed<4100> in Him because<1223> of the word<3056> of the woman<1135> who testified<3140>, "He told<3004> me all<3956> the things<3956> that I have done<4160>."

40So<3767> when<5613> the Samaritans<4541> came<2064> to Jesus, they were asking<2065> Him to stay<3306> with them; and He stayed<3306> there<1563> two<1417> days<2250>.

41Many<4183> more<4183> believed<4100> because<1223> of His word<3056>;

42and they were saying<3004> to the woman<1135>, "It is no<3765> longer<3765> because<1223> of what you said<2981> that we believe<4100>, for we have heard<191> for ourselves<846> and know<3609> that this<3778> One<3778> is indeed<230> the Savior<4990> of the world<2889>."

43After<3326> the two<1417> days<2250> He went<1831> forth<1831> from there<1564> into Galilee<1056>.

44For Jesus<2424> Himself<846> testified<3140> that a prophet<4396> has<2192> no<3756> honor<5092> in his own<2398> country<3968>.

45So<3767> when<3753> He came<2064> to Galilee<1056>, the Galileans<1057> received<1209> Him, having seen<3708> all<3956> the things<3956> that He did<4160> in Jerusalem<2414> at the feast<1859>; for they themselves<846> also<2532> went<2064> to the feast<1859>.

46Therefore<3767> He came<2064> again<3825> to Cana<2580> of Galilee<1056> where<3699> He had made<4160> the water<5204> wine<3631>. And there was a royal<937> official<937> whose<3739> son<5207> was sick<770> at Capernaum<2746>.

47When he heard<191> that Jesus<2424> had<2240> come<2240> out of Judea<2453> into Galilee<1056>, he went<565> to Him and was imploring<2065> Him to come<2597> down<2597> and heal<2390> his son<5207>; for he was at the point<3195> of death<599>.

48So<3767> Jesus<2424> said<3004> to him, "Unless<1437><3361> you people see<3708> signs<4592> and wonders<5059>, you simply will not believe<4100>."

49The royal<937> official<937> *said<3004> to Him, "Sir<2962>, come<2597> down<2597> before<4250> my child<3813> dies<599>."

50Jesus<2424> *said<3004> to him, "Go<4198>; your son<5207> lives<2198>." The man<444> believed<4100> the word<3056> that Jesus<2424> spoke<3004> to him and started<4198> off.

51As he was now<2235> going<2597> down<2597>, his slaves<1401> met<5221> him, saying<3004> that his son<3816> was living<2198>.

52So<3767> he inquired<4441> of them the hour<5610> when<1722><3739> he began to get<2192> better<2866>. Then<3767> they said<3004> to him, "Yesterday<2189> at the seventh<1442> hour<5610> the fever<4446> left<863> him."

53So<3767> the father<3962> knew<1097> that it was at that hour<5610> in which<3739> Jesus<2424> said<3004> to him, "Your son<5207> lives<2198>"; and he himself<846> believed<4100> and his whole<3650> household<3614>.

54This<3778> is again<3825> a second<1208> sign<4592> that Jesus<2424> performed<4160> when He had come<2064> out of Judea<2453> into Galilee<1056>.
