 <<  Lukas 22 >>

Now<1161> the Feast<1859> of Unleavened<106> Bread, which is called<3004> the Passover<3957>, was approaching<1448>.

The chief<749> priests<749> and the scribes<1122> were seeking<2212> how<4459> they might put<337> Him to death<337>; for they were afraid<5399> of the people<2992>.

And Satan<4567> entered<1525> into Judas<2455> who was called<2564> Iscariot<2469>, belonging<1510><1537> to the number<706> of the twelve<1427>.

And he went<565> away<565> and discussed<4814> with the chief<749> priests<749> and officers<4755> how<4459> he might betray<3860> Him to them.

They were glad<5463> and agreed<4934> to give<1325> him money<694>.

So<2532> he consented<1843>, and began seeking<2212> a good<2120> opportunity<2120> to betray<3860> Him to them apart<817> from the crowd<3793>.

Then<1161> came<2064> the first day<2250> of Unleavened<106> Bread on which<3739> the Passover<3957> lamb had<1163> to be sacrificed<2380>.

And Jesus sent<649> Peter<4074> and John<2491>, saying<3004>, "Go<4198> and prepare<2090> the Passover<3957> for us, so<2443> that we may eat<2068> it."

They said<3004> to Him, "Where<4226> do You want<2309> us to prepare<2090> it?"

And He said<3004> to them, "When<2400> you have entered<1525> the city<4172>, a man<444> will meet<4876> you carrying<941> a pitcher<2765> of water<5204>; follow<190> him into the house<3614> that he enters<1531>.

"And you shall say<3004> to the owner<3617> of the house<3614>, 'The Teacher<1320> says<3004> to you, "Where<4226> is the guest<2646> room<2646> in which<3699> I may eat<2068> the Passover<3957> with My disciples<3101>?"'

"And he will show<1166> you a large<3173>, furnished<4766> upper<311> room<311>; prepare<2090> it there<1563>."

And they left<565> and found<2147> everything just<2531> as He had told<3004> them; and they prepared<2090> the Passover<3957>.

When<3753> the hour<5610> had come<1096>, He reclined<377> at the table, and the apostles<652> with Him.

And He said<3004> to them, "I have earnestly<1939> desired<1937> to eat<2068> this<3778> Passover<3957> with you before<4253> I suffer<3958>;

for I say<3004> to you, I shall never<3756><3361> again<3765> eat<2068> it until<2193> it is fulfilled<4137> in the kingdom<932> of God<2316>."

And when He had taken<1209> a cup<4221> and given<2168> thanks<2168>, He said<3004>, "Take<2983> this<3778> and share<1266> it among<1519> yourselves<1438>;

for I say<3004> to you, I will not drink<4095> of the fruit<1079> of the vine<288> from now<3568> on until<2193> the kingdom<932> of God<2316> comes<2064>."

And when He had taken<2983> some bread<740> and given<2168> thanks<2168>, He broke<2806> it and gave<1325> it to them, saying<3004>, "This<3778> is My body<4983> which is given<1325> for you; do<4160> this<3778> in remembrance<364> of Me."

And in the same<5615> way<5615> He took the cup<4221> after<3326> they had eaten<1172>, saying<3004>, "This<3778> cup<4221> which is poured<1632> out for you is the new<2537> covenant<1242> in My blood<129>.

"But behold<2400>, the hand<5495> of the one betraying<3860> Me is with Mine<1700> on the table<5132>.

"For indeed<3303>, the Son<5207> of Man<444> is going<4198> as it has<2192> been determined<3724>; but woe<3759> to that man<444> by whom<3739> He is betrayed<3860>!"

And they began<757> to discuss<4802> among<4314> themselves<1438> which<5101> one of them it might be who was going<3195> to do<4238> this<3778> thing<3778>.

And there arose<1096> also<2532> a dispute<5379> among<1722> them as to which<5101> one of them was regarded<1380> to be greatest<3173>.

And He said<3004> to them, "The kings<935> of the Gentiles<1484> lord<2961> it over<2961> them; and those<3588> who have<1850> authority<1850> over<1850> them are called<2564> 'Benefactors<2110>.'

"But it is not this<3779> way<3779> with you, but the one<3739> who is the greatest<3173> among<1722> you must become<1096> like<5613> the youngest<3501>, and the leader<2233> like<5613> the servant<1247>.

"For who<5101> is greater<3173>, the one who reclines<345> at the table or<2228> the one who serves<1247>? Is it not the one who reclines<345> at the table? But I am<1510> among<1722><3319> you as the one who serves<1247>.

"You are those<3588> who have stood<1265> by Me in My trials<3986>;

and just<2531> as My Father<3962> has<2192> granted<1303> Me a kingdom<932>, I grant<1303> you

that you may eat<2068> and drink<4095> at My table<5132> in My kingdom<932>, and you will sit<2521> on thrones<2362> judging<2919> the twelve<1427> tribes<5443> of Israel<2474>.

"Simon<4613>, Simon<4613>, behold<2400>, Satan<4567> has<2192> demanded<1809> permission to sift<4617> you like<5613> wheat<4621>;

but I have prayed<1189> for you, that your faith<4102> may not fail<1587>; and you, when<4218> once<4218> you have turned<1994> again<1994>, strengthen<4741> your brothers<80>."

But he said<3004> to Him, "Lord<2962>, with You I am<1510> ready<2092> to go<4198> both<2532> to prison<5438> and to death<2288>!"

And He said<3004>, "I say<3004> to you, Peter<4074>, the rooster<220> will not crow<5455> today<4594> until<2193> you have denied<533> three<5151> times<5151> that you know<3609> Me."

And He said<3004> to them, "When<3753> I sent<649> you out without<817> money<905> belt<905> and bag<4082> and sandals<5266>, you did not lack<5302> anything<5100>, did you?" They said<3004>, "No, nothing<3762>."

And He said<3004> to them, "But now<3568>, whoever<3588> has<2192> a money<905> belt<905> is to take<142> it along, likewise<3668> also<2532> a bag<4082>, and whoever<3588> has<2192> no<3361> sword<3162> is to sell<4453> his coat<2440> and buy<59> one.

"For I tell<3004> you that this<3778> which is written<1125> must<1163> be fulfilled<5055> in Me, 'AND HE WAS NUMBERED<3049> WITH TRANSGRESSORS<459>'; for that which refers<4012> to Me has<2192> its fulfillment<5056>."

They said<3004>, "Lord<2962>, look<2400>, here<5602> are two<1417> swords<3162>." And He said<3004> to them, "It is enough<2425>."

And He came<1831> out and proceeded<4198> as was His custom<1485> to the Mount<3735> of Olives<1636>; and the disciples<3101> also<2532> followed<190> Him.

When He arrived<1096> at the place<5117>, He said<3004> to them, "Pray<4336> that you may not enter<1525> into temptation<3986>."

And He withdrew<645> from them about<5616> a stone's<3037> throw<1000>, and He knelt<1119><5087> down<5087><1119> and began to pray<4336>,

saying<3004>, "Father<3962>, if<1487> You are willing<1014>, remove<3911> this<3778> cup<4221> from Me; yet<4133> not My will<2307>, but Yours<4674> be done<1096>."

Now<1161> an angel<32> from heaven<3772> appeared<3708> to Him, strengthening<1765> Him.

And being<1096> in agony<74> He was praying<4336> very<1617> fervently<1619>; and His sweat<2402> became<1096> like<5616> drops<2361> of blood<129>, falling<2597> down<2597> upon the ground<1093>.

When He rose<450> from prayer<4335>, He came<2064> to the disciples<3101> and found<2147> them sleeping<2837> from sorrow<3077>,

and said<3004> to them, "Why<5101> are you sleeping<2518>? Get<450> up and pray<4336> that you may not enter<1525> into temptation<3986>."

While He was still<2089> speaking<2980>, behold<2400>, a crowd<3793> came, and the one called<3004> Judas<2455>, one<1520> of the twelve<1427>, was preceding<4281> them; and he approached<1448> Jesus<2424> to kiss<5368> Him.

But Jesus<2424> said<3004> to him, "Judas<2455>, are you betraying<3860> the Son<5207> of Man<444> with a kiss<5370>?"

When those<3588> who<3588> were around<4012> Him saw<3708> what was going to happen<1510>, they said<3004>, "Lord<2962>, shall we strike<3960> with the sword<3162>?"

And one<1520> of them struck<3960> the slave<1401> of the high<749> priest<749> and cut<851> off<851> his right<1188> ear<3775>.

But Jesus<2424> answered<611> and said<3004>, "Stop<1439>! No<2193> more<2193> of this<3778>." And He touched<681> his ear<5621> and healed<2390> him.

Then<2532> Jesus<2424> said<3004> to the chief<749> priests<749> and officers<4755> of the temple<2413> and elders<4245> who had come<3854> against<1909> Him, "Have you come<1831> out with swords<3162> and clubs<3586> as you would against<1909> a robber<3027>?

"While I was with you daily<2596><2250> in the temple<2413>, you did not lay<1614> hands<5495> on Me; but this<3778> hour<5610> and the power<1849> of darkness<4655> are yours<4771>."

Having arrested<4815> Him, they led<71> Him away and brought<1521> Him to the house<3614> of the high<749> priest<749>; but Peter<4074> was following<190> at a distance<3113>.

After they had kindled<4015> a fire<4442> in the middle<3319> of the courtyard<833> and had sat<4776> down<4776> together<4776>, Peter<4074> was sitting<2521> among<3319> them.

And a servant-girl<3814>, seeing<3708> him as he sat<2521> in the firelight<5457> and looking<816> intently<816> at him, said<3004>, "This<3778> man<3778> was with Him too<2532>."

But he denied<720> it, saying<3004>, "Woman<1135>, I do not know<3609> Him."

A little<1024> later<3326>, another<2087> saw<3708> him and said<5346>, "You are one of them too<2532>!" But Peter<4074> said<5346>, "Man<444>, I am<1510> not!"

After about<5616> an hour<5610> had passed<1339>, another<243> man<243> began to insist<1340>, saying<3004>, "Certainly<1909><225> this<3778> man<3778> also<2532> was with Him, for he is a Galilean<1057> too<2532>."

But Peter<4074> said<3004>, "Man<444>, I do not know<3609> what<3739> you are talking<3004> about." Immediately<3916>, while he was still<2089> speaking<2980>, a rooster<220> crowed<5455>.

The Lord<2962> turned<4762> and looked<1689> at Peter<4074>. And Peter<4074> remembered<5279> the word<3056> of the Lord<2962>, how<5613> He had told<3004> him, "Before<4250> a rooster<220> crows<5455> today<4594>, you will deny<533> Me three<5151> times<5151>."

And he went<1831> out and wept<2799> bitterly<4090>.

Now the men<435> who were holding<4912> Jesus in custody<4912> were mocking<1702> Him and beating<1194> Him,

and they blindfolded<4028> Him and were asking<1905> Him, saying<3004>, "Prophesy<4395>, who<5101> is the one who hit<3817> You?"

And they were saying<3004> many<4183> other<2087> things<4183> against<1519> Him, blaspheming<987>.

When<5613> it was day<2250>, the Council<4244> of elders<4244> of the people<2992> assembled<4863>, both<5037> chief<749> priests<749> and scribes<1122>, and they led<520> Him away<520> to their council<4892> chamber, saying<3004>,

"If<1487> You are the Christ<5547>, tell<3004> us." But He said<3004> to them, "If<1437> I tell<3004> you, you will not believe<4100>;

and if<1437> I ask<2065> a question<2065>, you will not answer<611>.

"But from now<3568> on THE SON<5207> OF MAN<444> WILL BE SEATED<2521> AT THE RIGHT<1188> HAND<1188> of the power<1411> OF GOD<2316>."

And they all<3956> said<3004>, "Are You the Son<5207> of God<2316>, then<3767>?" And He said<5346> to them, "Yes, I am<1510>."

Then<2532> they said<3004>, "What<5101> further<2089> need<5532> do we have<2192> of testimony<3141>? For we have heard<191> it ourselves<846> from His own mouth<4750>."
